I was born in Virginia, where I spent the first 31 years of my life. Then for the next 31 years, I lived in South Florida. Once I moved to Eugene, I finally found a place that felt like home. I love hiking, seeing all the public artworks, but most of all I love the friendly people who make this place feel like a small town.
I'm originally from Dallas Texas and then lived in Albuquerque New Mexico for the past 13 years. Moved to Eugene back in November after visiting a couple times. My wife and I wanted a change of scenery and smaller city than even Albuquerque. We've been very happy here and enjoy how nice everyone has been. My favorite thing to do is take my camera and walk around the downtown area for some street photography.
Three cheers for Eugene Parks & Rec!!! This (and the affordability) are what make me want to move there over CA. We'll be out west in late June and will then have some big decisions to make. I'll keep you posted!
Eugene should be windows shop of city everywhere because its all in 15 minutes city of small USA 01 & city without tax in west side of 🇺🇸 also a city that got a lot 02 offered
I appreciate how tolerant you are of opposing views. So if I may disagree with your description of "eclectic neighborhoods"... run down & shabby would be more accurate for most neighborhoods here. I have never lived anywhere with less architectural appeal. The recent KVAL poll showed 86% of people do not feel safe in downtown Eugene. As for "liking nice things to look at while driving", that may be true in Bend or Corvallis, but Eugene specializes in graffiti, run down strip malls, and armies of homeless pushing shopping carts around. You make excellent videos, thank you for considering a different view.
I do think architectural appeal is subjective. I much prefer "shabby" Eugene to the cookie cutter nature of new construction Portland Metro. While there may be graffiti, some I like. Suspish for example is a great fun identifier of Eugene, in my opinion. And much of the street art in Eugene is incredible murals done by talented artists. And yes, what I love about Eugene, others may hate. Nothing I can do about that. I'm glad you like the videos and appreciate your opinion, because I am sure it helps other people see all sides to the story!
In every video about a city, or really anyplace, seems like there's always a conservative dragging it down - whether they admit as such politically, or not. This Allan Jones person talks about a poll... well, who was polled, just residents of the city itself, or all listeners / viewers of KVAL? Because I have enough experience to know that cities will trend more progressive, while the outlying areas more conservative. I've lived near Sacramento, and visited Bay area cities for many years, and seen graffiti and homeless, but never would I describe them as "armies" of homeless. And just because I see some tents doesn't mean I flip out and act like my life is threatened merely by seeing a homeless person. So I'm always instantly suspect of these comments.
@@kbanghart No one is "flipping out" about the homeless. But people considering a move to Eugene deserve to get a realistic view of life in Eugene. BTW, your attempt to debunk the validity of the KVAL poll was weak and incoherent, something your boy Biden might have said.
@@allanjones2393 oh, us Democrats must upset you. Poor Trump, dude is gonna lose again. And no, my question about the poll was very simple.. do you need help with it? It's a very simple question.
@@kbanghart I actually have a job, so I must get back to work. No time to interact with the random buffoons one encounters here on You Tube. I said Good Day, Sir!
No! It is actually a different disc sport where you throw discs off a tee pad and try to get them in baskets. We have at least 3 courses in Eugene and more than 5 in Lane County.
Lived in the Eugene area for five years and I hated it. Not much to do unless you’re into running in or climbing cliffs. I do like the Eugene Airport a lot.
I have lived in Eugene for 10 years, and the last three years I haven't felt safe anymore. They broke into my car when I went to spencer butte in Eugene. There are more homicides, there are more vandalism in the streets, the drugs are destroying people and the homeless population has increased a lot. In addition, a lot of drivers that are coming from other cities are not respecting the streets anymore. They are driving fast, not respecting the red lights, not being polite when giving the lights to cross the other street. Before, there were more polite people, the driving was easy, less traffic. Eugene is becoming "big population" in a small city. The rent is crazy nowadays. :( I want to move because it is not safe anymore...

🖕🫵 Oregon Lover!
I moved here in 2005 and I love it here. Specifically love Springfield!
Love that you are still here and love it!

Can't wait!
Have you decided?
@@kbanghart Yes. We'll be in CA to start, but I suspect we'll land in OR eventually.
So excited for my move in September!
Yay! If there is anything else I can do to help, let me know!
I don’t think you mentioned the abundance of wineries
Definitely also a BIG pro, and I do love wine, so not sure how I forgot to mention it!

It is definitely a great place!
We moved to Eugene in 2021... still here in 2024
Hope this means you also love it. :)

NEVER ;)
Do you love the Meth heads in Springfield? Or the homeless everywhere too?
Not privy to meth heads in Springfield and not bothered by the homeless in Eugene, but that's just me.

I'm sorry you don't feel safe.
Been in Eugene 40 years. I would agree that it doesn’t feel as safe as it did 5-6 years ago.
Moved out of Eugene in 2005. Liberals have destroyed Oregon. Nice people there unfortunately…
