    Gabriel, you made the best purchase of your life! My Red Wagon was purchased in 2001 -- it was 4 years old and had 35K miles. It's now a 25-year-old gem. I feel the same way about this car and I hope to have it another 10 years -- providing I am still able to drive. Everything you said about the 850 is true. The one thing I absolutely love about the 850 is how it handles on highways and on the Beltway in Maryland. It feels like a race car and hugs the road. It is just a stupendous car to own. I hope you have yours for another 20 years.

    0:38 one of my favorite sounds ever
    Edit: idk if you know this but this is a GLT trim. That means I comes with a smaller light pressure turbo and is better for low end torque. Also the rear seat bottoms have little leather pull straps on them that when pulled lift up the bottom of the seat. The rear head rests can be pulled up and tilted forward. Doing it this way will allow the seats to be folded flat

    • @GabrielSpence
      @GabrielSpence  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What a sweet ride! Growing up, a '98 V70 GLT was our family car, and it served us for many, many camping trips. My dad still has his 850 sedan T5 which I learned to drive in & drove for a few years until I bought a 1998 S70 GLT (which, like yours, means it has a light turbo). In some ways the '98 S70 is an upgrade (I always hated the window control placement in the 850) but I'll always be nostalgic for the 850.

    Nice car you have and a nice video. I own a 93 850 GLE. Switching from Economy to Sport mode is not only shifting gears faster, it also increases the RPM range. In Eco Mode gears shift around 3000 RPM, in Sport they shift way higher around 5500 RPM. As Sir Robert DIY ( my biggest respect for his videos ! ) also mentioned you can not only fold down the seat bottoms, you have red quick out handles under the seat bottoms with which you can take out the seat bottoms in seconds without turning one screw, and you get e perfect eaven place for a matraze. Also with pushing the two little handles under the back of your passenger seat you can lay down this one too in seconds and get even more camping space :)

    After a month or somethings we also bought a 850. We said goodbye to a slow V50 and no Hi to a fast 850 20 valve with turbo! man is so much faster than those newer volvo's. The car is in one word amazing! We just id some work on it and soon the bonnet and bumpers will get repainted. Our 850 is a bit special because ours is imported from Italy to the Netherlands some years ago. Back in 1995 (The age of our 850) Taiwan, Iceland and Italy had heavier emissionsrules and Volo made a bit smaller engine from the 2.3 20 valve turbo. They produced a 2.0 20 valve turbo to get past emissionstest in those countries. Luckily it just produces the same hp's as the 2.3. Our has standard the roofrack. Ours has also heated seats and powered mirrors in the front and rear! Saidly no central locking and no electric seats... But that makes the car authentic! I hope you will enjoy this car untill you aren't able to drive anymore!

    Your car looks great in white- like it better than the Dk Grey of my 96 850 Turbo Wgn. I am the original owner, was my wife's car then all three kids drove it and now its back with me with around 200k miles. Have gone through most all of the mechanicals and need to get a bit of paint work done, but such a great car-drives smoothly and is relaxing, you feel your stress/aggression levels go down behind this wheel. By the way, all versions have the sport/econ choice-the car shifts at higher rpm in sport-response is better but don't think fuel economy is really affected. The turbos are quite reliable too, no turbo issues for me, but I am careful driving it and use synthetic oil every 5k miles. Congrats and enjoy!

I think a bright red 850 wagon would look smart sitting beside it in my driveway, don't you? I also have a love for the 2001-07 V70 (specifically the last 2-3 years of that generation because of the body color mouldings). I briefly had a 2004 V70 in silver waaaayyyy back in 2011. Should have kept it but everything I read about it in blogs/online said the 2004 was mechanically the worst year for that generation. Needless to say, I, too, had many mechanical and trim issues with mine. I digress... thanks for posting yours! It is gorgeous and I hope you still have it.

    The seating is what i think the best i ever felt, the turbo gives a nice pleasant boost and let's not forget the awesome sound it makes while driving.

      It has such comfortable seating and I love the driving experience and don’t get me started in the sound it blew me away the first time I started it. I totally agree with your evaluation of the 1996 850. I know someone with a '96 850 w 270,000 miles and its still running well. Remove the rear seat pans to get another 6 to 8 inches of length with the seats folded down.

    • @user-yq2zy6ww2k
      @user-yq2zy6ww2k 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GabrielSpence My understanding of what a seat pan is: the overall assembly that you sit on when sitting in the second row of seats. You have probably noticed that you need to pull up the back of the two seat pans, using a loop at the back of the seat pan, so that you may fold the backs of the seats forward and flat. With the seat pan lifted so they (the left and right side) are up against the backs of the front seats, but with the seat backs still in their upright position, look on the underside of the seat pans for the pivot points that hold the pan in place as its it tilted up and forward. Rising from the pivot points you should see a red plastic lever that will be more or less vertical when the seat pan is tilted toward the back of the front seat. If you press the tab, at the top of this lever, it will unlatch and release the pivot pin from the bracket that is attached to the floor. There are two of these levers for each seat pan in the 850 I know. Once both levers/pins have been released for a give seat pan, you can lift it up and out of the way, setting it on the front seat if you like. Re-installing the seat pan is just the reverse of the steps you use to remove it. Hope this helps.
