Hey guys, I love how many comments and questions came up this time around! I knew this one would get some rumbling and grumbling about pronunciations. A few things to address since they've been brought up a few times: -I had more than one discussion with family on whether or not the song should be "Ganon with One N" or "Ganon with Two Ns," and we felt the One sounded better. I lampshade this in the middle of the song though because it is a little odd. -The "Gannon-Bannin'" with two Ns near the end is intentional, as it's referencing one of the earlier Zelda memes that became a whole thing. "Gannon-Banned" was what you'd say to someone who spelled Ganon with two Ns in the middle; it was a whole big website and everything and it'd be a disservice to not have a nod to that in a song about it. Since it's a proper name/term that includes the two Ns, I kept them there. -Brigitte has a little more nuance than I originally thought, apparently! The main thing I was addressing there was that it wasn't pronounced like the name Bridget (as I once believed). -Arceus sounds like it's probably a Japan/US distinction so it's more accurately kind of a Dedede situation. Personally I think going with whatever's localized generally works better for communication. -Lums is a weird case since apparently they're "Luhms" in Rayman 3 but officially have been corrected/retconned to "Looms." -Giygas was a shocker to me, a huge EarthBound fan. They say it with a long I in an old EB commercial but according to localizer Marcus Lindbolm, it is indeed with the long E (based off of Mother 1's "Giegue" [GEEG]). -I love Wreck-It Ralph but Capcom has confirmed that it is indeed Zan-gi-ef since then. To be a pedantic little shrew, Zangief is also not "bad guy!" -Even though Ganon is quite certain of himself with these, that doesn't mean I'm always a fan of the official pronunciations! I just like the idea of him getting twisted in knots over this, but you do you. Personally, I vastly prefer the way "Zebes," "Tidus," and "Rydia" sounded in my head. I had to do some soul-searching after hearing the official pronunciations of those... -The only one that really drives me crazy is hearing Ocarina pronounced with a long O! ;)
Actually, it turns out "ocarina" is also a dialect thing. It seems that some regions (read: America) don't commonly use short O sounds such as in "pot", and in those regions the "ah" sound is accepted. However, due to its Italian origins, the "oh" sound is the "true" pronunciation (as long as you don't stretch it out too much).
Mario also has nuance, as the true correct pronunciation uses a vowel sound which is absent from many English dialects, including the most common British and American dialects. This causes most people who only speak English to hear Mario's name with whichever vowel they do use which is closest, with main issue being that the correct vowel is almost exactly in the middle of the vowel sounds of the words 'cat' and 'car'. For reasons which are beyond me, British people are more likely to hear the former while Americans are more likely to hear the latter. Basically, both pronunciations written at 2:18 are equally wrong.
Actually not really! From what i've seen, fairly few ships are truly canon-compliant, most of them can weather being disproved in canon fairly well by just focusing themselves around aus or in a small, ambiguous window within canon. For example, Silvergifting, from the Silmarillion: it is impossible to say that they did not at least break up in canon, given that sauron murdered celebrimbor, but lots of fic and art are made for the ambiguous nature of their middle-years, or imagining ways it could have gone differently. If tolkien came back to life to condemn this ship specifically, I doubt many of us would stop caring about the interesting dynamic he wrote, bc he did write it once, even if by accident.
@@jessehunter362 Similarly, cannons will not necessarily destroy a ship. However, he only said that they are both capable of destroying ships, in which case canon can absolutely destroy some ships, though some if not most can survive in some way, shape, or form.

1:28 The dorf is for his gerudo form and excluding it is for his Triforce of Power-enhanced pig form and whatever the calamity was. You'll notice Ganon wasn't present in TotK and Ganondorf had the title of demon king instead, this is because the Triforce of Power is with Zelda as somehow her sealing power is actually the entire Triforce.
YOU MADE "MY WAA" my friends played this song randomly when i was at their house and i just checked ur channel for another song that they played and i saw "my waa" right b4 the Ganon 1. Thank you 4 your bangers
I really appreciate the Gannon-Banned ref at the end!!! That said, Arceus sounding like the buttocks as called in England is correct and a direct transliteration of the Japanese name, as almost all legendary and mythical Pokémon are. But the English anime decided to pronounce as Ark instead of Ars, so both are technically correct and acceptable pronunciations. Should have had the same treatment as King Dedede. Plus, I notice you included the CD-i games as well as at least one Smash Bros. game in your 14 times Ganon’s been thwarted. If you’re going to include those, you should really consider all 20 times he’s been thwarted, not just 14 of the 20.
You are technically correct, the best kind of correct. Ganon(dorf)'s thwarts were a point of contention--depending on what counts it could be anywhere from 12-ish to 20+. But I really liked the way "thwarted fourteen" sounded so I went with the definite ones first then added a couple less-than-canonical ones (Faces of Evil, SSB Brawl, Hyrule Warriors) to round it out.
Fun fact: the pokemon games actually show how Arceus is pronounced in English. Silvally’s ability is RKS System, which is pronounced similarly to the official localisation (which should rhyme with deus, being a deity after all). It doesn’t seem to be the case in Japanese though.
@@Mariokemon No it isn't. Literally every game that's said his name out loud has pronounced it right. The only exception is the English localization of FF7 Rebirth, which was done entirely to appease American fans who never bothered to learn his name, and it sparked mass outrage because it's seen as contributing to the centuries-long erasure of the Gaelic language.
2:15 Usually don't do this but it is this Video's purpose: In the german Name Brigitte both "i"s are contracted. The correct pronounciation is actually closer to "Brigg - it - teh""
@@stm7810 No, the song is referring to Brigitte from Overwatch, not Bridget from Guilty Gear. Reg. the German pronunciation: I was under the impression Brigitte (the character, not the name) was Swedish, not German, so I looked it up. Apparently she is Swedish, but the reason she has a German name is because Reinhardt (who is German) made a deal with Torbjorn to give her her name. Neat
Finally someone acknowledges Dedede's name pronunciation! I know it's established as "dee-dee-dee" in the west, but it still bothers me knowing the original is "deh-deh-deh".
Sometimes, I know what the "correct" pronunciation is and just blatantly ignore it. "Lums" for one, especially since the only time they voiced the word in the series they used the "wrong" pronunciation! Rayman 3 to be precise, which also brings up the point that if it's supposed to be "Looms" then the "Hoodlum" pun doesn't work! So you could say it's Word of God versus ingame evidence, and the latter _always_ wins in my book! Oh, and no one knows what the correct pronunciation of "Hydrocity" was _supposed_ to be, we just have vocal factions on preferences. I'm in the "Hy-DROSS-ity" camp myself.
1:47 I always pronounced it "Guy-gas" because the first people I heard it from were Fawful's Minion in his Top 15 Kirby Bosses list, referring to the arena where you battle 0² in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards as "Giygas' Bachelor Pad", and from Chuggaaconroy in the final episode of his first EarthBound Let's Play (as well as a TH-cam Poop I remember watching called "Mrs. Krack is possessed by Giygas" which uses the sound clip of Chuggaaconroy pronouncing Giygas as "Guy-gas" in it. However, I haven't been able to find it in years.). It makes sense that Giygas would be pronounced "Gee-gas", given it's in line with his Japanese name in both the first two MOTHER games (ギーグ /Giegue).
for some reason, I always tend to horribly mispronounce words like “leitmotif” because my brain just never looks at the word deep enough for me to realize i’m mispronouncing them, so for the longest time I always pronounced Giygas as GIGYAS for some reason, thank you to ganon for showing me otherwise lol
Some early promotional material, from before the translation was even completed, called the villain “The Geek”, which is a crazy alternate timeline to think about, but helped to push me toward the Gee-gas pronunciation early.
I can't believe no one mentioned this yet, but the japanese pronounciation isn't "day-day-day". There is no i/y-sound at the end of it, whatsoever. It sounds more like a slightly longer version of the de in "despite". (Though that's much harder to sing, Ganon.)
There's something I've always loved about BitF!Ganondorf and its that you can tell he thinks he's better than absolutely everyone around him no matter what context he's in.
Sheesh, fourteen times? I know he's your go-to villain when it comes to Zelda, but that seriously dorfs the competition! ...Er, dwarfs. Dwarves? Aw dang it.
You can also just always say 'dwarfs', the spelling with a v was made up by Tolkien for LotR, the actual mythological dwarfs are usually spelled with the f included
Shout out to Vaati and Majora's mask, the only actual other villains, with Vaati still getting replaced by Ganon in one of his appearances, and to Yuga who merged wtih him but it who was still the one in control.
1:19 Honestly MK's Raiden being pronounced Ray-den makes no sense to me because he's clearly based on the Japanese thunder god, Raijin who is also known as Raiden.
Should’ve mentioned if you wanted the center and end to stay the same gaodnorfn Btw here’s the process Ganon Add the dorf: ganondorf Move the second n to the end: ganodorfn Remove the first n since its no longer and place it back in the new center: gaodorfn Now the new center is between the d and o so it would be: gaodnorfn Congrats you’ve technically followed every rule

Thank you ganonn
*Gannon
Had to watch this one immediately, this is great haha. It's so true that Final Fantasy in particular is a common target for name mispronunciations.
The one that always bugs me is "Psyche-Locks" being pronounced as "sigh clocks". There are two syllables in "psyche", people!
I learned something new today
@@connormc4050 Yep. It's "sy-kee locks". I recently learned that one.
Psyco-Locks
Isn't Psyche two different words? Like, theres "psyche" with two syllables (meaning your mind), and there's "psyche" with one syllable (to mean "I'm joking", often misspelled "sike")
@CiromBreeze One syllable is just "psych." "Psyche" always has two syllables.
Thank you for the enlightenment, Janondorf!
I don’t listen to kinngs of evil, so I’m gonnna keep on sayinng Gannon out of gennuine spite.
I'm so glad I found a song about spelling Gannon's name correctly.
It actually tells you how to pronounce Lums correctly in the first pages of the Rayman Origins guide book in the box
The Triforce of Power left Ganondorf in Twilight Princess, so that's one timeline branch accounted for.
This is my favourite of your new Bitmusicals
Man, I was not expecting a whole song by our man Gannon! What a happy surprise!
Ganon* 🤭
😠
@@BestSomebodyNA Nah only one n. Its Gano.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
This is REALLY NICE!
Words and visuals are amazing here! Great job!
Thanks gannnondorf

A really catchy and useful song Gannon !
Ganondorf is his name and Ganon when he has manifested his power
@@dysr Good point!
Especially when it could have been called RCS system
These are some of my favorite lyrics from you, great job!
(Also keep fighting the good fight, it's OCK-arina)
I'm glad someone remembered Gannon Banning
It is Ganon not Gannon.
@@Maxwell-vw1br and it's Gannon Banned not Ganon Baned
Nintendo has the ability to do something really funny in the next Legend of Zelda game now.
Funny how the can of worms that is Cait Sith wasn’t touched upon in the FF section.
catshit
this is because as a character, his name is pronounced as Cait Sith, even tho his namesake is Kat Shee.

Usually don't do this but it is this Video's purpose:
In the german Name Brigitte both "i"s are contracted. The correct pronounciation is actually closer to
"Brigg - it - teh""
we're talking about bucket the trans girl right? or is there another Brisket?
@@stm7810 No, the song is referring to Brigitte from Overwatch, not Bridget from Guilty Gear.
Reg. the German pronunciation: I was under the impression Brigitte (the character, not the name) was Swedish, not German, so I looked it up. Apparently she is Swedish, but the reason she has a German name is because Reinhardt (who is German) made a deal with Torbjorn to give her her name. Neat
@@bubba-gumby thanks!
@@stm7810 Use his real goddamn name.
Finally someone acknowledges Dedede's name pronunciation!
I know it's established as "dee-dee-dee" in the west, but it still bothers me knowing the original is "deh-deh-deh".
I was screaming at the screen for him to mention arcanine because I’m still not 100% on whether it’s Ar-KAY-nine or Ar-kuh-nine
I always thought the name came from arcane and canine, so in both cases it should be pronounced "kay" in the middle
It was pronounced AR-KUH-NINE in the anime and nothing will dissuade me way from that
Problem is neither is he.
@@Limomon EXACTLY
Pretty sure it's pronounced Ar-kuh-ni-ney
Thank you Gaondorf.
The amount of people that comment about 2:34 without reading the pinned comment is truly astounding.
From the first moment of the song I was hoping you'd make a Canon/Cannon parallel, and I was very satisfied with the payoff.
1:47
I always pronounced it "Guy-gas" because the first people I heard it from were Fawful's Minion in his Top 15 Kirby Bosses list, referring to the arena where you battle 0² in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards as "Giygas' Bachelor Pad", and from Chuggaaconroy in the final episode of his first EarthBound Let's Play (as well as a TH-cam Poop I remember watching called "Mrs.
Some early promotional material, from before the translation was even completed, called the villain “The Geek”, which is a crazy alternate timeline to think about, but helped to push me toward the Gee-gas pronunciation early.
this feels like something i would have found on newgrounds in 2007. great work
2:11 I love the fact even in the power point she is gonna die by being stabbed.
I aspire to have wordplay this genius one day holy-
Imagine in another game, the thing Link is trying to stop is Ganon's ultimate weapon, the Ganon-Cannon, or, as it is colloquially known, the Gannon.
A Zelda game where Link is trying to stop Ganon, that'd be crazy
More people need this, like it's the most informative thing I've seen on the internet in years
Finally! Someone who knows how to say "Lums!" They say it's pronounced "Looms" in the Rayman Origins manual, but I don't think many people read that.
So, it's NOT pronounced like the name of the Urusei Yatsura character?
They don't say "loom" in Rayman 3 though.
Oh, they don't? Hm, might be a po-tay-to, po-tah-to kinda deal.
It doesn't help that it was pronounced like "Lumms" in Rayman 2 and 3 when the little guys first appeared.
@@HairyHariyama Eh, fair enough. Both pronunciations are valid!
I can't believe no one mentioned this yet, but the japanese pronounciation isn't "day-day-day". There is no i/y-sound at the end of it, whatsoever. It sounds more like a slightly longer version of the de in "despite". (Though that's much harder to sing, Ganon.)
I genuinely didn't know it's ninetales that's crazy
Also didn't know about Giygas but I also never finished earthbound
This is awesome! Can't wait to see a BitMusical on other characters like Bowser!
1986: Gannon
2024: That blue monster
Great work! What a fun song, so much detail and the animation is awesome!!
As a Sonic fan thank you for affirming Hydro city as the correct pronunciation
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 this video needs more attention.
The gannon-banned reference made me smile
There's something I've always loved about BitF!Ganondorf and its that you can tell he thinks he's better than absolutely everyone around him no matter what context he's in.
2:20 once i heard someone call it a god damn "osarina"
That sounds terrible
you think that's bad? I've heard someone insist that "chimera" is pronounced shim-ur-ah.
Love the detail of Sephiroth sword coming into frame for the Aerith slide. Besides that, this has been delightful!
Sheesh, fourteen times? I know he's your go-to villain when it comes to Zelda, but that seriously dorfs the competition!
...Er, dwarfs. Dwarves? Aw dang it.
Well, he's counting Brawl and the CDi Games
Dwarves is the plural of dwarf. Dwarfs is the present tense form of the verb "to dwarf".
@@astralbirthvoid0Skull Kid/Majora:
I'm glad Ganon
1:19 Honestly MK's Raiden being pronounced Ray-den makes no sense to me because he's clearly based on the Japanese thunder god, Raijin who is also known as Raiden.
This may be the most impressive bit of word play in all of Taranto's songs. I think Sondheim would be pleased
I don't know how I feel about the fact, I am in complete agreement with the Gerudo King about how the Water Level in Sonic 3 is pronounced.
The sand level says hi, you're probably mispronouncing it, too.
Idk any other way of pronouncing Sandopolis other than "Sand aw polis" or "Sandoh polis"
Which ones right idk@doomsdayrabbit4398
Ganon is probably my favorite singer you do.
Don't you go thinking I won't see Ganon sealed in the book of Koridai there Matthew.

Ayyy! Fellow MandJTV fans!
Thanks for the correction, I will think about this the next time I say your name, Gannon.
I guess there are two things he wants for Christmas now.
Should’ve mentioned if you wanted the center and end to stay the same gaodnorfn
Btw here’s the process
Ganon
Add the dorf: ganondorf
Move the second n to the end: ganodorfn
Remove the first n since its no longer and place it back in the new center: gaodorfn
Now the new center is between the d and o so it would be: gaodnorfn
Congrats you’ve technically followed every rule
Don't worry, I'd never misspell Ganondorn
At 2:34, it says "If you spell it wrong again you'll get a Gannon-bann in'" THEY MISSPELLED GANON IN THE SONG ABOUT GANON BEING GANON ANG NOT GANNON AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH
Check the pinned comment, “Gannon-banned” is a specific piece of internet history
Definitely been saying Giygas wrong.
But wild that people mispronounce Ocarina and Mario. Two of these most iconic video game things EVER.
You cannot convince me that giygas is not pronounced like guy-gas, I will not accept it
Actually, even the video got Mario wrong, it's mah-ree-oh, not mar-ee-oh
@@kirbywithaknifeisawesome6028His name in Japanese is ギーグ, which was translated in the original Mother as Giegue (also spelled in the JP version of Mother 2 as Gyiyg) and would be pronounced "Geeg" (with a hard G) or "Geegu". So it doesn't really matter how you pronounce Giygas because that name was made up in translation anyway.
honestly this was the thing that finally taught me what various google searches could not: the fact that canon has only one N (well two but not in the middle) thanks for that ganondorf.
