I love this this song. My son wanted this played at his funeral. I play it so so much. It reminds me of him. Here's for you my Angel Boy Thomas. Mom loves you and misses you so very much each and every day.
@@raygunner2437 Yeah Crosby was involved in the genesis of this song this is an adaptation (by Furthur) of Robert Hunter's re-working of the original "Mountain Jam" (see www.whitegum.com/introjs.htm?/songfile/LETTHEMO.HTM and www.whitegum.com/introjs.htm?/songfile/MOUNTSON.HTM )
Winter of '70/'71. Crosby was in on it as was Grace Slick and others. Gorgeous song. It was recorded during Garcia and Crosby's solo album efforts, if I am not mistaken. Three versions are on the bootleg and they all grow as they go, with banjo added at one point. Great stuff.
I only got to see them twice the last two nights at the Greek theatre in Berkeley in 2013, I got on the bus six months earlier. Glad I got to see them. But I was just saying how I wish I could've discovered this music a few years earlier and had a solid few years of Furthur. I need to go see Phil before or after dead Co this year. It's been almost six or 7 years since Phil , it was a few days before thxgiving , riding Greyhound, on my way to Vegas to see Dead Co for the first time. I realized I was near TxR and the bus come by and I got off. Phil it turns out was doing a thxgiving show and having traditional meal, scored an extra five min after I arrived and I had enough time to eat dinner with Phill and his family, he carved the turkey, and almost catch the whole show before going south to Vegas. I spoke with him out back and thanked him. He was about to tell me what new music he has been listening too but something interrupted him and I always wonder what new band I would've learned from him. Must go see him ASAP
Phil Lesh is a national treasure. Oteil is very talented but you can't have Grateful Dead music without Phil's counter punctual mastery. Personally, I don't find Mayor's soaring ego filled solos over Althea, Dew etc impressive.
Always loved this performance. So glad it is preserved for eternity. R.I.P. Phil - a fraction of the one band that is consistently the background soundtrack to my life. Forever grateful!
This was my husband and I's first song we danced to. I've since moved 2200 and made the "mountain" be my home alone. Funny how life works out❤ ❤🖤💙RIP John
My Thomas wanted this song played at his funeral. It was on his fb page my Sister found it. He said if anyone cared I wanted this played at my funeral. I didn't have a funeral for him. He died of an over dose. Long story short I had is body brought back to me. I spent 45 minutes with him. Then I had him cremated. We had a private service just family. This song was played for him with a copy of the words. I play it over and over for my sweet Angel boy.
Phil should have been this assertive with the GD.The vibe is so good that you wish they would have broken out Unbroken Chain before they hit the stadiums.
Where to start ! The pianist blew me away! The band and your lyrics are peacefully incredible!I lituarly got goose bumps.Well EXECUTED and brilliantly talented band.Thank you for sharing. ❤
They played it last night at The Greek in L.A. So awesome! Had never heard this beautiful song before last night. So glad I lucky enough to be there for it.
Long life to the musicians of the "Perro Wally Heider sessions"
it was originally written by david crosby, later lyrics written by r. hunter were found that were for mountain song and they were added aswell as phils sons addition
David Maxey Phil's son wrote part of this song? Graham really kills lead guitar with Midnight North and TFB. didn't know he wrote songs too. JK is really nailing his parts on this! love his sound

@@glyn420 @Nate Wagner lol I think Jaco has an edge on any of them, but you know, I take Pat Metheny's word for it and all. Seriously, they all do certain things well. furthur was so awesome. I'm 30 and never got to see the real dead but I was so impressed by Furthur more so than dead 50/ dead n co etc
R.I.P. Phil ❤️⚡️💙
if you're just finding this song, you owe it to yourself to research it's history and evolution.
Actually I can only find this one entitled "Let the Mountain be My Home" ... fascinating finding this gem so close after the loss of Robert Hunter

Now just wondering...is this band named after a BUS??
Planet earth rock n roll orchestra. Perro sessions
Words cant express how much I miss this band
Better song choices and arrangements better than dead and co.

Mountain Song + Pride of Cucamonga = Best Phil songs ever!!!!!!
Box of Chain?
I love you
Thank Phil and Brian for writing and thanks to Furthur, this song makes my eyes water with happy feelings
This song worms me up too ahhh 😭
And I thought I knew all the epic stuff from the 70s. Just found this song. What a gem! Need to buy a lot in the mountains now and build a cabin.
Close your eye's... You can hear Jerry.. This touches my heart.
This song a gem in the Furthur repertoire. Wish we could hear it more

Why 1 dislike? This song is absolutely amazing! Heard it live at Redrocks and fell in love

Brian Lesh with Furthur wrote the additional lyrics not grahame. Brian is ten times the guitarist grahame is.
Perro sessions. crosby, young, dead, airplane. Mountain song was still just a jam without many lyrics
The top of the peaks
Jeff and Sunshine's backing vocals are so powerful during the change ups
Phil’s Mighty Striding Bass Line....
Masterful

Jeff and sunshine backing vocals are powerful, and a nice addition in the second part
Very well played

Built a fortress on a hill
I built a castle in the sky
I built a lean-to in the village down below
A fountain where the land was dead and dry
I built a palace overlooking seven seas
I built a church upon a stone
Gonna let my pastures go to seed
And let the mountain be my home
Fantastic! My favorite "new" Furthur song!
Soo beautiful
I went walking out last summer
Trying to find a breath of air
I went walking on the mountain
A friend had told me I'd find you there
Built a fortress on a hill
I built a castle in the sky
I built a lean-to in the village down below
A fountain where the land was dead and dry
I built a palace overlooking seven seas
I built a church upon a stone
Gonna let my pleasant pastures go to seed
Gonna let the mountain be my home
Gonna make the mountains be my home
('Cause the sky above me is gold)
Gonna make the mountains be my home
(The river is dark)
Gonna free my soul to roam
(The river is dark, down to the sea)
Gonna make the mountains be my home
('Cause the sky above is gold)
A monument of marble raised
Against the day I die
And on the capstone just one word
And that one word was "why?"
Gonna leave my dusty bones
By the path on which they fall
Halfway up some mountain trail
Where the timberline stands tall
Gonna let the mountains be my home
(I'm going to move)
Gonna let the mountains be my home
(I want to breathe)
Gonna free my soul to roam
(I'm going to move on)
Gonna make the mountains be my home
(I think I put on my saddle and ride)
I heard the golden eagle's
Disappearing cry
Wings of beaten lightning flashed
From skies beyond the sky
God writes testament in stars
Believe no words you read
Until you see what action
Has been mothered by the deed
The mountain makes no promises
A thing I understand
Rather look down from the height
Than up here from the land
Gonna let the mountains be my home
(Such a long time)
Gonna let the mountains be my home
(I want to breathe)
Gonna free my soul to roam
(I'm gonna move mountains)
Gonna make the mountains be my home
(I'm gonna move)
Gonna make the mountains be my home
Just got to breathe
Just got to breathe
Just got to breathe
Just got to breathe
Incredible.
Perfection
Fucking BEAUTIFUL man, so beautiful
awesome as always

Pino Palladino comes to mind...good enough to play with what's left of The Who, and essential to John Mayer's best work.
No argument here. I tend to feel each member of the Deads lineup during the Brent years were the best at what they did.
Jack Casady and the late Chris Squire are up there too.
One song I want to hear... 5 shows and still no mountain song! Maybe next show :D !
totally forgot about this
TIGHT!
Is this the same song that jerry, crosby, slick, and katner did in 1971?

this song co writer>Paul kantur,,Dave crosby,,grace slick,,jerry Garcia,,plant earth ora,,1971,,,
