You are wrong, they certainly did shoot out of canon. As someone who owned this original toy as a kid I had many hours of fun “shooting” the missiles at Autobot scum. If you want to see this in action a quick TH-cam search will prove your mistake!
It's still only a Pre_order item in the states. I don't know why Hasbro keeps using that gross off grey color on anything. The cassettes look great, I love them, but that off gray on soundwave just kills this for me. They probably removed the missile Launch feature because of how short the missiles are and laws in the States with launching toys. I believe they need to be at least 3 or 4 inches long to be ble to shot.
I remember saying years and years ago that Hasbro needed to color appropriate the figures. E-HOBBY answered my prayers with Astrotrain and Galvatron. I’m elated that it’s caught on. And the missiles don’t fire as a safety precaution for kids.
Glad i picked up the Walmart re-issue from a few years ago. However, i do like the look of the cartoon color scheme. I'll still pick this up. Thank you for the review. Earned a new subscriber.
I pre-ordered this on 13th Oct 2023 so you have got this early, its not supposed to be released till 19th Jan 2024. I wasnt psyched by the movie colourway id have preferred an original colour version but SoundWave is popular and i missed the previous reissues and he sells out quick. This is a case of beggars cannot be choosers for me, just happy to finally get the chance to own one with retro style packaging.
I really like this version of G1 Soundwave and the cassettes. You are right about that he should have the silver details the cassette weapons have instead of that flat grey but other than that this is a very cool set. Love the boxart as well😊
I am disappointed they didn’t use the original mold where the tape door had internal hinges and the abdomen buttons had sharper shaped arrow buttons. But the one you have here has been consistent in reissues for the last 20 years Laserbeaks guns were shorter than the original mold, which is odd, but I can only assume this has something to do with safety laws in some markets
They did away with the spring loaded firing projectiles a good while back due to safety concerns. I guess some kids shot themselves in the eye or something.
I like that it’s in the animation colours like the Retro Starscream reissue etc but the quality control could certainly be better. I think the missile firing feature has been removed for safety reasons, possibly because they’ve retained the missiles’ original length?
What I enjoy is the retro package and the inclusion of the his minions ravage and laser beak, but soundwave looks abit cheap. Sadly seems Hasbro has taken a step back. But still overall a great addition if u don't have the original or older re-issues.
Waiting for my pre-order from Walmart and it’s staying brand new in the box! I have the OG of Soundwave that is now sitting in a plastic box. Because of excessive kids play by me, his clear cassette holder chest piece cracked and broke! Also OG Buzzsaw slide out head broke off. I never had OG blue Frenzy and Laserbeak. If Hasbro is smart, they will build off the popularity of SS86 Rumble/Frenzy with SS86 Soundwave/Ravage/Laserbeak/Buzzsaw!
No missile firing. I believe that's been banned since the Battlestar Galactica toy incident back in 1979 or 80. I remember as a kid my Cylon fighter ship's missiles fired when I pressed the buttons, but they only shot out about two centimeters then stopped unlike the previous Cylon fighter that was sold to the public. They were molded to stay in the ship. That way it wasn't a choking hazard. Having a missile shot into my throat or whatever.
I don’t think so because I owned toys that still had spring loaded missiles in the 2000s. Guess most toy companies weren’t catching on until my generation. 😅
This was a must buy for me, but the chrome... And also, I really liked those stickers that showed if it was a Decepticon with the heat of the finger. Hasbro has become so cheap.
I've noticed for quite a long time that those engineers in Asia are a bit trifling & disrespectful!!!! When it comes to quality vs. cost, "They suck canal-water!!!!" 😑 Transformers were MUCH better made when manufactured in Japan/America, Even Canada for that matter!!!!
I got a Chinese knock off in the 80s (before it is called “third party/unlicensed “ now) because I could not afford the real toy. But how is it 40 years later, the toy is not as good as the original. Definitely, the chrome plastic is much better than the grey plastic they use now to represent metal. And my rocket cannon definitely has the spring and can shoot. Still think the original is the best even if they are using the same mode.
Get stahted ahn dah paht twoo mah brudda! Good vid, I like your style and voice..Ill keep an eye out for your next vid. As for this soundwave, WOW! I was really loving what I saw, until it sat next to the G1. They should have included a set of decals..Dis is dah buuhhhshit mah' mon!! I think ill pick one up for my son just to handle a G1 soundwave though..it really was a groundbreaking toy, and as much as we all think of transformers as MANY different bots..I would say for years..THIS is what people thought of when you said Transformers...not always Optimus.
As I learned from Hound and the seekers, "toon colors" = a lame excuse to cut corners by not vac-metallizing parts, not including a sticker sheet, and minimizing the paint. The only thing it has going for it is the $45 retail, which is only $5 more than small Hound.
Sweet...we don't have Enough Soundwaves. LOL. Like We don't have Enough of many TFs. I've been turned off of TF for a while since masterpieces And so may reissue.. Don't get me wrong, still looks cool of course for us old-timers. And the grey comma really?. I guess that makes it Different and worth collecting them to some. Like a variant.. Hey, if the company can still make money on soundwaves. go for it.
Looks like Hasbro, yet again, put in a solid 20% effort and skimped on the things that could have made this a great release. And they're probably charging a lot for it. Yet again, well done Hasbro (Fire the management).
All in all, it seems like the animation deco was more about cutting cost than anything. No vac-metal chrome or chrome paint anywhere, because they were gray in the cartoon...but Laserbeak still has the chrome on its stickers, which looks great, but doesn't fit the supposedly animation accurate theme (the only real selling point along with the original mold). And weren't Ravage's chrome legs die-cast metal on the original? Because if they can give Laserbeak chrome stickers, they could have given Ravage those chrome metal legs. In fact, they could have gone with vac-metalized chrome on Soundwave too, or at least a metallic silver paint or silver plastic for his robot parts. The missile firing thing...this is an adult collectible, we all know it. They could have easily modified the missiles if they were too small. Or if they weren't intended to be fired, they could have just given one for display purposes. It's as if they wanted to cut corners and used cartoon accuracy as the pretense.
An animated re-release version definitely allows for cost-cutting! The figure looks good in a simplistic way but more details would be appreciated as well
Looks nice. Unfortunately, this will shelf warm like crazy again. It is way overpriced for what it is and I think people are a bit tired of the same figures being reissued every couple of years. The last reissue was heavily discounted at retail and only die hard collectors picked him up at full price. Also, these recolored reissues are not distributed evenly. Only saw Starscream hit my area and nothing more after that.
@@RetroToyEscapades Blaster was another one that shelf warmed harder than the other reissues. Evan at low clearance prices, I ended up not buying it. I think the only thing worst than the G1 reissues are the Beast Wars reissues. Right now, they are hanging around the discount stores, still at inflated prices. Hasbro needs to rethink these reissue lines.
I@@williammckinley1035 Soundwave for sure didnt shelfwarm where Im at. People were going into Walmarts and stealing all the stock as the employees put them out. If this goes on sale, Im buying 2
What's to rethink? They're just being greedy at these prices trying to take a cut of aftermarket. Not like they don't produce these things for like 10% of the wholesale price anyway and wholesalers pay like 30%. Greed at all levels. People keep mistaking capitalism for stupidity and it's now showing. These people have no concept of growing a line. It's all about how much can I get now. At this rate collecting will be completely dead in less than 20 years
Cheap and tacky. The white plastic looks like it will glow in the dark. Masterpiece line only for me as Hasbro are bringing out cheap looking trash not worthy of the name. They better get their shit together as they are sinking fast financially.

Just got mine from Walmart. Looks awesome. One of my favorite purchases of 2024. The best part about it. It transports you back to the 80s
Yup, just got mine in the mail today. Love it
As an 80s kid who still has 2(?) of my childhood sound waves, I can tell you the wobbly legs are just adding to the G1 accuracy.
good point 😄
The missiles never shot on the G1 either.
You are wrong, they certainly did shoot out of canon. As someone who owned this original toy as a kid I had many hours of fun “shooting” the missiles at Autobot scum. If you want to see this in action a quick TH-cam search will prove your mistake!
Soundwave was one of the most important characters in the Transformers franchise. Michael Bay tried to destroy it by turning Soundwave into a car.
Ugh that was just awful
I’m not a Bay fan, but the Walkman is outdated. It makes sense to transform Soundwave to something else. But I love the original design and toy.
It's still only a Pre_order item in the states. I don't know why Hasbro keeps using that gross off grey color on anything.

yep
The colours really pop on the new version, it was great to see the comparison. I have an ‘84 original and will display mine side by side.

looks nice , perhaps i buy it... launching weapons have been disabled for safety reasons.
Missiles haventfired on any hasbro release for years. Safety thing
I wish they hadn't changed the packaging. The movie artwork on the other retro releases is great.

I wish they’d at least spray parts silver. We are paying a premium for a non premium product.
Sadly, that's the new normal with everything
It’s meant to be a cartoon accurate version of the toy. The latest reissues have all looked like this.
I like it. It’s different from the other reissues.
I agree. The G1 colors look better.
@@Stopher2475Wait, you like the reissue colors or you don't?
I need your MASK collection in the background. This is my favorite Decepticon

I think they shortened the guns on the tapes for the last Walmart re-issue.
Well I need this ASAP!
They did away with the spring loaded firing projectiles a good while back due to safety concerns. I guess some kids shot themselves in the eye or something.
None of the US versions of Soundwave ever had the spring loaded launcher for his battery weapons. lol safety concerns
I wish they’d re-issue more autobots like Trailbreaker

Nice, did they make, Rumble, Frenzy, Buzzaw and Ratback?🤔
I didn't even know this was coming out
Glad I got the previous reissue. I’m tired of the animation look for the g1 figures. More so in the masterpiece line.
Is Megatron available for a 40th anniversary release?

you wanna know why spring loaded projectiles have been long and visable?
spring loaded missles have been banned for years. So theyd have to take out the launching gimmick in a rerelease.
The battery part comes apart so I’m thinking spring is missing so buy a new spring for this thing see how the toy works fix the toy it’s not that hard
I see they changed SW’s eyes from yellow to red in the artwork!
Seething with sonic fury!
Its because his eyes are red in the movie, its a deliberate change.
They removed the spring on the gun
Looks cheap for an anniversary issue. Definitely a Christmas gift. Blaster looks better. Looking forward to the legacy united issue.
I need to see that Blaster in hand!
Bonjour de la France 🇫🇷, je possède plusieurs versions vintage et celle-ci me tente bien 😊 !

Yeah that shoulder cannon is supposed to lengthen, not just pop apart…..
This is clearly aimed at adult collectors, but they don’t have firing missiles.??
Strange they couldn't add a bit of chrome, it has put me off
Without chrome, looks more like a cheap knock off
