I love to see the way you're Dad can keep the Lancaster on the road without spending hundreds of pounds on new parts. Pete's skillset honed over decades is always impressive.

My father owned a 1949 Lancaster in black, bought from a RAF wing commander in 1958 . Seeing the interior brought back a lot of happy memories , especially the rope handles in the rear to help with getting out . I remember he paid £365 for it at the time , it's number was KNU 636 .

You just can't beat enthusiasm for fixing stuff, and combining that with your dads mechanical experience makes you a great team. Lovely vid Jon, I've said it before that I love the Armstrong content but tbh I think its the overall mix of stuff on the channel that I like, plus seeing you and your dad spending quality time together. All the best chaps!

Thanks for the entertaining video. Very interesting to see so much of such an old car. However, I have to admit that I sometimes wish Jon Jr. knew a bit more about vehicle technology after so many hours on cars. This ‘question and answer’ game gets tedious at times. 😅 Cheers mates.

Keep it on the road. Your dad will remember the seal repair kits for the brake cylinder myself. l would put a little bit away each week towards a new cylinder and build up a repair fund . Like your dad , refer to the hands-on approach, and engineer is a true skill

Hi Jon Anything electrical these days is a gamble fakes are rife that incudes spark plugs. The bleed nipple repair is normal, it separates the mechanic from the fitter! One point of order to anneal anything heat to a dull red then let it cool normally or with copper washers dump in a box of dry sand and let them cool naturally. In case your Dad is wondering why the washers are still hard that is the reason! Cheers john

Was Armstrong Siddeley standard fitment from the factory Champions spark plugs? I was thinking that originals might of been Lodge, like that of many other upmarket cars of the time.

I see Champion's quality has gone to pot all over, eh? also, I think you got hit with "chinesium" with those resistor caps.
how big IS that wheel cylinder, 1 and five eights?!
I swear, only Brits still do this stuff on a regular basis, whether it's vehicles, small engines, electronics, appliances, or even watches. People are few and far between in the States and have to charge a fortune.

Was just looking for spark plugs and most suppliers list a 3/4" reach plug for the Armstrong Siddeleys. N5 or N5C. It might be that these are easier to find than the L10 you are using. If the 3/4" plugs are correct the L10 will be heavily shrouded. I normally deal with V8s and have found Rockauto to be very good for spark plugs. Even with the shipping and vat they are competitive and only supply OE quality parts. Mart.

Land Rover Series 1+2 88 inch wheel cylinders will fit , Beware Chinese Junk Parts ! ......plug caps included ! . There's lots of NGK + BOSCH plugs on the Internet that are expensive copies......they look 100% until they fail ! . We used to have excellent things made in the UK sadly we have too search for quality now more than ever 🇬🇧

Buy proper quality old spares from reputable suppliers and Owners Clubs and don’t moan about the price, be grateful that someone supplies them. There is a lot of cheap repro junk around that is happily ripping off overenthusiastic enthusiasts….. you are proving that car after car….

Hi my name is Iain, I do like the Armstrong👍 I served my time in the early 70s so most of the vehicles I worked on were older... My boss was a Rolls Royce/ Bentley enthusiast ( in a big way ) our garage was like a museum!
Your Dad is a good old-fashioned mechanic! I have happy memories of the good old days, mainly the Quality British cars...
Keep up the good work, I enjoy the videos 👍. Iain.
