"Gotta see the wave, not the wine bottle on the wave" Absolutely one of my favorite Porcupine Tree songs. AND it has a sister track, Sentimental, also performed at Tilburg. Same chorus. I think the narrative is from the same first person, but at different points in their life.
I actually love this song more than sentimental, wish it would’ve been on FOABP instead. (I know it on the EP but still). To me it’s a bummer that many of my fav. PT songs are not on the actual album e.g “Drown with me”, and “Chloroform”. It’s beyond me why they didn’t make the cut for “In Absentia”
This was a track on their Nil Recurring EP which was recorded at about the same time as the Fear Of A Blank Planet album, hence a lot of similarities/ crossovers both musically and lyrically.
Yes, the Nil Recurring EP were all songs they were working on at the time of Fear of a Blank Planet. The references of being stoned in the mall was repeated frequently, and the phrase, "I do a good impression of myself" was also in Anesthetize. Robert Fripp of King Crimson played on the EP's instrumental title track. When Steven played Normal's acoustic riff for Robert, he asked him for a tip or some clue how to master the complex fingering. Fripp told him to practice and keep playing it. That's the only way.
Loving all the PT reactions man! With as many songs by PT that you’ve reacted to, I’m surprised you haven’t heard “Trains” yet. It’s a classic PT song and one of their most popular. Highly recommend you give the album version from In Absentia a play. Great song!
Great song, you should also check out 'Even Less' live from the Arriving Somewhere DVD. Its another amazing song. PT are the only band who's live performances sound even better than the studio albums.
The _Nil Recurring_ EP is phenomenal! I actually prefer "Normal" to its _Fear of a Blank Planet_ album counterpart "Sentimental" by quite a bit... which is saying a lot because that song is also great! Also having "Cheating the Polygraph", "What Happens Now?", and the title track makes it one of my favorite EPs of all-time, honestly.
A PT classic
One of my fav sing it when I hear it "Wish I was old and a little Sentimental" I' m 66 and I am.
Surely one of the best live bands ever!!

Nice your fav. song for now 😃 👍. As always very enjoyable watching you react to my fav. band with the same enthusiasm I had, when I discovered PT 😃
Thanks, as always Helle!! Rock on..
You have seen nearly the whole Tilburg show. Maybe time to watch the whole show to experience the continuity?
Hands down the greatest rock'n'roll gig ever. And not only the contents but also the production: sound and 5.1 mix on Bluray.

The Fear of the Blank Planet DVD Audio disc has the EP in multichannel. If you ever have the chance, go ahead and check it out. It is truly awesome!
Yeah for sure. Nil Recurring was kind of a B side of FoaBP, but all 4 songs on it are incredible. I too prefer Normal to Sentimental.
You didn't react "TRAINS" yet
Coming out tomorow.. (:
