- Yup, I've only gone and done it. I have bought a Volkswagen Beetle. It's got loads of miles, loads of scratches, landfill site are cleaner than the interior and some bits are falling off. But hey, project cars need a list of jobs, right?
Join me as I have a walk around and proper inspection of Doug before the work starts. And there is much work planned - this is going to be quite the transformation.

Morning Mr Pollitt, I've just discovered this channel and watched all the videos last night plus this Bug one before work lol. I like the way you present very easy going with humour keep the channel going I'll be watching regularly now. It's gotta be Pollitt Dog Sitting Service for the rear seat issue lol

I had mk4 golf for 5 years with same engine - AQY.
Have done happy 40k miles with no issues and pass it to my dad, who still enjoy it.
Engine and gearbox are rock solid! EA827 engine is awesome!
Just with regular service and the beetle will last forever!
When you do the cam cover gasket, change the spark plugs, clean the throttle body, cause you need to remove the intake manifold.
Just a little bit of tlc and that beetle will be lovely daily driver!
Give me a shout if you have any questions, cause i have a lot of experience and had replaced, serviced and done lot of preventative maintenance on my mk4!

Brilliant cars for the price, my girlfriend has had 3. The current Tdi one cost £1800 6 years ago.
I loved my New Beetle when I had one. Some of the strangest electrical gremlins I've ever had in a car, but fun to drive and lots of character. It's one of those cars I wish I never sold.
Bought a red 2.0 Beetle two years ago as a stop-gap. Still got it. Brilliant little machines and great fun to take out. Prepare to have it longer than you planned.
This is perfect Pollitt fodder, very much inline with your ethos.
Don't forget to check the pcv valve. Notorious for failing at the wrong time

We had one of these for a few years, really liked it tbh. The 2.0 does drink oil round town (500ml in 500 miles isn't uncommon), but its a good all round option (and a single mass flywheel) for a cheap run about thats a bit more fun than a golf.
When these first came out I wasn't a fan, I can hear the ghost of TeenageViolet saying shit like "engines in the wrong end"
But much older me they've grown on me, the shape reminds me of 'Y2K era' design, and thats nostalgic. & I genuinely can't wait to see what you make this into

Wipers will almost certainly be seized mechanism- the same on the mk4 golf. A good second hand one is the cheapest option grease all the pivot point’s before you fit it 👍
Interior reminds me of my last car and I love the scrap yard hunts for parts and bringing it all back with some customisation. Not my cup of tea, but also some how I find them curiously appealing - really just the problem of being a carsanova. I am going to enjoy watching this series - does it smell of crayons?

These are great! And very dependable if you take care of them, a lot of MK4 GTI stuff bolts right in and they drive great

We had a 2001 auto. Loved the car but the transmission packed in at 57000 miles. Had to have a recon. Auto gearbox fitted. Lost faith in the car after that. Traded it for a 2014 Beetle far better car by miles.
Note.. Have you checked out the ved on the car?
Problems with rust in the roof channels was a common problem. Ours were rectified under the bodywork warranty. But not all dealers did. this.

I think you were robbed. I got a 2007 beetle convertible with 105,000 miles for £600. It needed a good clean inside and now looks almost immaculate!
Amazing how prices have firmed for 2nd hand cars the last 2 years , that would have been a £200 motor 😮

Still a £200 motor, sellers with high prices and buyers with no cash, prices are now tumbling... just picked up some motors in far better condition, 09 Focus for £250, 2006 Fiesta for £180 and an 09 Accord estate for £350..... Loads of cheap motors hanging around unsold because of sellers with unrealistic prices as sub £2000 market buyers hit with cost of living etc..
When will we get a video on the C-Max? New wheels / interior detail etc... :)

Great video we have one only 70 thousand miles what did you use to remove the spray on plastic on the interior and do you have a banging noise on the rear. Have changed everything on the rear.

It was so promising until the last few minutes, when we got to the roof.
If the structurals and the drivetrain hold up, it should be okay, I guess.
Beautiful shade of red on this one! We didn't get any metallic red here in the states, only the gloss bright red.
If you decide to get rid of the standard interior I'd be willing to buy the black seat skins and donut headrests off you if you'd be willing to ship to the states! I have a 1999 turbo I'm doing up but it has cream interior and I'm looking to turn it black. :P
EDIT: Maybe the center caps off the OEM wheels too... I'd ask about the airbag but I'm pretty sure it's not legal to ship those internationally lol. ;u; (the ones in the US sold with a boring silver emblem, I want the blue emblem!)
EDIT 2: If you want a better center console keep an eye out for the 2005-2010 model in the junkyard! Has much better cup holders.
Given it needs so much paint why not consider trying a diy wrap?
I wonder if these will become a classic? They were certainly popular when they first came out.

What do you do about insurance for all your cars? Are you hemorrhaging money, hence the shoe repair or have you got a traders or multi car policy? Great video as always 👍

So sad - at what point does any owner really not give a sh*t about a car? I bet they all have top end Sky/Amazon packages on D/D and stupid-a-monthly phone packages, over maintaining transport, and investing in deodorant and eating something more than microwave burgers, 20 B&H and some tramp juice. YOU will do it proud fella ;-)
