If he continues doing what he’s doing next year, I could see Protas creeping up into at least the honorable mentions next year. It’s funny, PLD’s contract gets criticized, but it helps that Protas and Strome combined make less than he does.
Anton Lundell is going to be on this list at some point. Zito signed him to 6 yrs at 5M and there’s a reason his teammates call him baby Barkov. He’s so incredibly underrated. 2 way game is what helped FL win a cup and will keep them contenders for years to come
NJ has a few questionable ones, but four absolute gems (3 mentioned by others here) ... the obvious are Hughes, Bratt & Hischier (albeit shorter term left) ... less discussed is the Siegenthaler contract.
i know he’s a free agent at the end of the year, but Logan Thompson being as good as he is for the Caps at $15k BELOW league minimum is such an insanely good deal
He has a bad contract simply because he's still on the Pens. They should have traded him for a wealth of picks. Instead he plays out his career golfing every spring
Raymond is pace for 88 points as a 22 year old, he should of been on this list, only thing he doesn’t have is a shoot mentality but is good at everything else
I'm here to make my case for Nick Suzuki being over Tim Stutzle. Firstly Suzuki is a much better 200 foot player. He's also a captain and is being paid like 600k less on the same term. In terms of offense I mean I'm getting most likely 85-90+ in Suzuki's prime. Stutzle probably 95-100+ I mean yeah that's better but would you rather 5-10 extra points a season or less but with a 600k cheaper aav, a future Selkie candidate, captain and a guy who doesn't miss games? Availability is a great ability. And Suzuki has also never missed an NHL game. I don't know. I think there's a handful of teams who would rather have Suzuki on their team then Stutzle because the contract
Bobrovsky gets a free ride now, because he won a cup , but he's like the 20th best starter in the league this year for his 10 $ million. Strome won't have another year like this one. Quin Hughes 3 years at 7.85. Jack hughes 6 years at 8 million Jesper bratt 7 years at 7.875. gustav forsling 8 years 5.75 connor bedard two years at 950,000 Bratts a better bargain than hughes. No ones second line center makes 8$ million, unless you are a leaf.
Forsling not a top 10 d man for you? So many young fans judge dmen on points. The primary job of a dman is to defend and Forsling and he’s arguably the best. You have to watch the games to understand that though. Add in his offense production with no PP time too. When it comes to defending, Forsling is the elite of the elite. Bill Zito is a magician! Got him off waivers
I agree about the notion of Hughes not being good defensively is BS, however, I believe that take expired early this season amongst most NHL fans. What I have noticed is that now people are claiming Cale Makar sucks defensively. Which is absolutely comedy show hilarious. Most people point out Colorado's top pairing being rated one of the worst in defensive metrics, not realizing that Devon Toews was in a big big slump to start the season. Seriously, he was a liability for a while there, and is finally now getting back to where hes known to be. That being said, Makar plays with excellent defensive instincts... but it must be noted that while defensemen are expected to the 2nd-to-last line of defense, but when your Forwards don't know wtf they're doing, combined with an overall lack of confidence in your goaltending, you do tend to get "exposed" as they might say. Props to Quinn Hughes for improving from his 2nd year onward. A rare Avs fan take: I wouldn't be mad, just slightly disappointed if Hughes beat out Makar for the Norris.
Wait kucherov isnt even making 10mil? Man puts up 100pts in his sleep and his multiple cups in his name. He dosent even shoot the puck and scores. Cant get much better then that. Gotta have a defender here so im sorry makar and hughes are better then mike matheson but my god. He is making less then 5mil. Thats crazy. A #2 makes at least 7... if forsling is on here then matheson should be too... matheson is better then forsling. A glue guy is important. But so is your #1 dman. Forsling floruishes with a qell devloped and built panthers. My honerable mentions. RNH, Hyman, CROSBY?? No way hughes is #1. Might as well sway thompson for Suzuki at that point.

You could argue a Vlasic could be on this, but it's not Marc Eduard!!!!
@ factsss
Alex Vlasic 5x4.6. Forced to play top pairing dman on a crappy team and is holding his own. Would be a solid middle pairing dman in his second season
Jesper Bratt is keeping up with Jack points wise and is at a 7.5ish? For 7 years. He's also good defensively, but a winger, not a center.
If he continues doing what he’s doing next year, I could see Protas creeping up into at least the honorable mentions next year. It’s funny, PLD’s contract gets criticized, but it helps that Protas and Strome combined make less than he does.

did you forget about Slavin’s monster deal? that’s arguably better than some deals on here. 6.46x8
Yeah he's still one of the best lockdown defenseman in the league who can still give you 35-40 points.
If helly isn't on here, we need a part 2 because he deserves to be
Robert Thomas has a case, 8.125 for 5 years after this one
