Galchenyuk’s girlfriend screwed up his head and the stupid media in Montreal made him look bad. Do some research before you open your mouth about $hit you know nothing about.
Yakupov is a mediocre journeyman even in the KHL and playing on one of the most consistently terrible teams in Red Star Kunlun. Bust of epic proportions.
I don’t think we can remove with Galchenyuk what he went through in Montreal. Galachenyuk’s girlfriend was charged with assaulting him in 2016 (right around when he dropped off). He declined to bring forward domestic abuse charges. The backlash in Montreal both within the team and in the media didn’t go against his girlfriend, he received backlash for being a distraction because he got assaulted, to the point that he felt he had to issue a public apology, again for being assaulted. I wouldn’t be shocked if he already had some alcohol problems, it doesn’t sound like it was a healthy home situation for him, but I can’t imagine that public reaction helped. *edited for spelling
I remember Brian Burke on draft day confidently saying he would have drafted Morgan Reilly 1st overall had Toronto had that pick and he said it in a way that made me actually believe him. Whether that was a fluke or not, history validated his comment.
@@j189512 The thing I noticed was how much the why paralleled the why of his failure: he didn't think it worth his time so he put no effort into it. He showed exactly what sort of player he'd be
Not sure how true this is but i’ve read that Galchenyuks father basically raised him to be an nhl player and he had no real childhood. It would make sense why he crashed and burned so hard in the nhl and turned to addiction.
There's also the fact that he started in mtl. Hockey players are treated like a list celebrities here. It must not be easy to stay on the right path when every guy in town wants to party with you and most girls act like groupies around you. There's a reason why many young players can't develop over here and have party issues: Ribeiro, the kostitsyn, obyrne, brisebois, galchenyuk. I'm convinced Mtl cannot take players with attitude issues cause they get multiplied ten times here.
@@philippetessier6126it's even worse when the Montreal media made HIM apologize for being a distraction, because he was suffering from domestic abuse issues at home with his then girlfriend
Trading away Forsberg for a Starbucks gift card still eats away at Caps fans souls. At least George McFee wasn’t dumb enough to trade away Wilson. 11-20 honestly should have been 1-10. Overall a weird draft with a very weak skater class but insane goalie class.
Bouvillier has one of the funniest years ever in 2024 to, came to Canucks in 2023 with the Horvat trade, plays out the year, gets traded to the Blackhawks who flip him to the predators, gets knocked out of the playoffs by the Canucks
Respectfully I disagree with Rielly feel like Toronto’s development of dman has been pretty bad besides Rielly. Never had any help all his d partners were old. If Rielly had a true 1B d partner that they developed then it’d be a different story I’d feel but we never know. He’s been the only consistent presence on the blue line and the last 3 years he’s showed up in the playoffs so, would love to hear your thoughts on this.
I believe it was Brian Burke that said Yakupov was on his do not draft list based off his attitude. Kind of gotta wonder if that’s what happened with Shane Wright. Considering even Arizona “passed” on him at 3rd yet still ended up with a better player in Cooley. Makes me wonder if Wright was on some “do no draft” lists as well
This looks to be his first season played he is about half a point a game pace currently. Wright seems to be developing fine. Around 13 to 14 min toi they are taking the time to develop him correctly. Is he a first line center no. But he could be a number two.
Galchenyuk man… aside from the substance issues and other office issues, the kid also was battling with coaches. When he finally gained Terriens trust, he scored 30. Next season, started HOT, then injured. Then Julian comes in & I kid you not, it took that bum 1 period to put Galchenyuk on line 4 LW. He never had a chance in MTL…
You should keep doing these videos for most of the interesting drafts and geade the picks and overall top ten to 15. I love these vidoesp please keep doing them.❤
As a leafs fan. It was a blessing getting the 5th pick. Would much rather Morgan over the other 4 before him obviously. Turned out to get far and away the best guy in the top 5 with the 5th pick
What's funny is that a lot of players outside of 2012 Round 1 have accomplished a lot. Vasy in the mid-portion of Round 1 probably goes 1st overall if we had a redraft right now.
Yakupov and Galchenyuk were awesome as linemates for Sarnia. Crazy both busted. Curious if anyone in nhl thought they could’ve been reunited to see if they would spark them.
@isamarchambers there is good goalies in every draft. It comes down to health and having a good coach. They can just as easily bust as a goalie can become a franchise guy
Now we need a video about the worst draft in history. 1999. Sedin Twins and almost an entire 1st round of nobodies. Nick Boynton and Marty Havlat are basically the only other 1st rounders worth talking about
Yakupov was never the same after his bell was rung on a vicious hit late in '12 season. Was afraid to get hit after that. And i saw that first round sting series. Scout galore. They were all over the place taking a look at yak, galch. And isles at least turned reinhart into barzal.
I know if you go back far enough there are probably much worse NHL Drafts, but this would definitely my pick for the worst Draft in the modern NHL era at least. Even if we look outside the top 10 with it's 4 hard busts and the painfully mediocre amount of top end talent overall.. Half the 2nd rounders never played a single game in the NHL, which is absolutely NOT normal. It was just a terrible Draft class all together... Yet somehow Hellebuyck was a 5th rounder in this Draft, cause why not?
This draft was viewed as a pretty terrible one going into it. It was you had two good players Galyunchuk and Yakupov. The rest were scraps. The scraps were kind of bangers.
As a Finnish person, it's funny that Slater Koekkoek sounds Finnish to you, because to me doesn't sound like that whatsoever. Slater sounds American, Koekkoek is clearly a Dutch name (correct me if I'm wrong).
I have always wondered what if... yakapov and galchenyuk were put on the same team and line if things would've turned out better for them (both played on the Sting)
What is interesting is 8 of the top 10 players in this draft were defenseman. Have you ever seen that before, or since? BTW, Colten Parayko of the Blues went 86th overall. I would take him over anyone in the top 10.
I believe it was Brian Burke that said Yakupov was on his do not draft list based off his attitude. Kind of gotta wonder if that’s what happened with Shane Wright. The holy trinity of busts
1. Yakupov: Lazy and game didn't translate
2. Murray: Horrific injury luck
3. Galchenyuk : Talented but absolute cancer
HAHAHAHHA yup all busted for different reasons
Stanley Cup champion Ryan Murray
Galchenyuk’s girlfriend screwed up his head and the stupid media in Montreal made him look bad. Do some research before you open your mouth about $hit you know nothing about.
Yakupov is a mediocre journeyman even in the KHL and playing on one of the most consistently terrible teams in Red Star Kunlun. Bust of epic proportions.
Yup sad career
When the rest of the draft sucks, its not so bad. Taking Daigle and seeing Pronger go 2nd hurts way more
Yet he still won the KHL championship a few years ago. So wished the oilers traded this pick at the draft.
@@empire0 what? Daigle is a wicked young tendy, i figured whatever team grabs him has to be stoked about it lol
Yakupov recently returned to Avangard Omsk and is almost PPG since.

Damn never knew all that about him, that's such a shitty situation. Definitely gotta feel for the guy
Very good point I should have brought that up I apologize
@ no need to apologize, it’s a great video and there’s a lot to cover, just wanted to point it out.
Mackinnon and Barkov being in the next year draft makes 2012 looks so bad oh my lord the Avs and Panthers picked the right times to suck 😭
Derrick Pouliot jump scare in the middle of dumbas analysis

To be fair, Erat was sick before the trade. He just fell off a cliff. Wasn't like it was a prospect swap for a bust.

I understand this would be a crazy under taking
But worst to best of ALL number 1 picks
What’s kind of fun is Gretzky wouldn’t even be on the list
I did on my Instagram a while back maybe I'll bring it back
@ my buddy I would love to hear you in depth on that in a video
Hey mike, a few ideas for upcoming tier lists would be cool, could include each teams best player nationality (Canadian, American, European)
Ooooooooooooooooo like that! Might do that on IG @mbonhockey

6:12 Also the last decent season for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Coincidence? I think not!
Yeeeeeeaaaaaa
The other part of that Jordan Staal trade was Brian Dumoulin so I’m happy with the trade.
That was Freddy’s second time getting drafted, he was first drafted by the the canes, so he got there anyway
Avs legend Nail Yakapov
I'm ngl as a Sharks fan. I don't even remember Puliout (spelling?) even played 8 games for us 😂😂😂😂
would love a video about draft steals! late round picks who grossly overperformed compared to expectations
Galchenyuk had potential

Has there ever been a draft that ended up being highly underrated?
Terrible draft year but lot of good goalies came from that class, Vasilevskiy, Hellebuyck, Andersen, Matt Murray, Korpisalo, Ulmark, Stolarz
Can you look at the best drafts
Love these videos
Thanks!

Whisper sweet nothings in my ear Mikey!
HJAHAAHAHAHAH got you!
4:15 if the oilers didn’t trade yakupov I Wilde what would’ve happened
25:23 surprisingly common for the flyers
This is why the oilers give me depression
At least it’s not the 1999 draft. That whole draft pretty bad apart from like 6 or 7 good picks.
Now if only there was a potentially hof in the draft…… trying looking at the 5th round pick 130????
Just me or in todays game yakupov would be given more chances
Definitely more built for the NHL now vs 2013
Do 2013 next
Somehow Oilers managed to get the worst one lmao classic
It's funy how terrible this draft was if you're looking at skaters, but this is an all time strictly talking goaltending.
The WOAT Draft!
1997 draft might be the worst ever
