  • Hi everybody! Here's a quick comparison between two guitars that I love and use everyday in the context of Cold Day In Hell by Gary Moore. It's just for fun and not as scientific as it could be but I think that you can get an idea of how the guitars sound. Have fun listening (hopefully) and let me know what you think by leaving a comment.

    Gibson has a richer sound with more body, Sire is good too (sounds a little compressed) but Gibson has the edge.

      I wonder how much the Sire would change with a set of 57 Classic

    Great playing and choice of music. Love Garry Moore. I’ve never had the pleasure of playing an R9. I can only hope they are as good as the owners say. My Sire L7 has excellent playability and sustain like no other guitar I’ve played. The pickups is where these two really separate. The stock Sire Larry Carlton signature pickups sound good until you hear a good set of Burstbuckers or Custombuckers. This demo just reinforces what I’ve already concluded from many other vids, a good set of Burstbuckers is the sound you didn’t know you were missing. So if I wanted I could buy a set of Burstbuckers for about $350; and the line between these two burrs reven closer. Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio can get you there for much less. Overall the Sire is hands down a better deal from a players perspective. I tweaked the setup on mine myself and I’d say it’s 95% of what a skilled luthier would do. More players should learn how to set up their guitars. The videos are free!

      I agree on the pickups, I never tried a Custom Buckers set but they seem to be quite special based on the videos. On my R9 I have 57 Classics which are not that expensive and I really like them, in comparison Burstbucker have a rockier tone (more mids?), and the Sire pickups sound maybe simpler and more friendly while you’re playing.
      I also tweaked the setup on the Sire and it was good but then my luthier took it to another level, I’m not going to file frets my self😊.

      @@gioelevio1626 My L7 only needed a touch up and I'd done a few before so no problem.I might hesitate to file frets on an R9 .

    Very interesting comparison...the R9 *bites* a little bit more...but my respect to the L7 and I nearly like the tone better. I would choose the Sire. Its more a guitar a musician can afford.

      Thanks! I think I’m going to do more comparisons in the future, it helps me to identify similarities and differences between the guitars. I agree, the Sire does very well in the comparison😊

    I liked the L7 over the LP. It has a little broader tone.

    Gibson for me sounds the part. Sire was too warm.

      I agree, anyway I think we should consider the fact that I made the preset using the Gibson, and I didn’t tweak it afterwars in order to hear the differences betweent the two guitars. Maybe with a little bit of tweaking the Sire could sound even better😊.

    Gibson sounds better to me. Sound shines more and I would say it is more clear. But, the difference in price is brutal, Sire 500€ vs Gibson Custom >5000€. However, the sound is not 10x better (I know that there is a point where minor improvements raise prices exponentially). Still, for 10x of the price, the Gibson sound is 20% better maybe. And from that 20%, I would say 80-90% is just pickups. So, what if you change pickups of the Sire 500€+300€? Of course, Gibson would always feel better phycologically and in terms of look is way much nicer. However, I guess the neck os the Sire is better...in terms of playability...

      Upgrading the pickups on the Sire would probably be a great move😊. Would push the Sire much closer to the Gibson. You can’t make the Sire as resonant as the Gibson but it has a really great neck. Different instruments but you can make great use of both of them.

    Gibson, by a very slight hair. But the Sire is really good! And the price of the Gibson compared to the Sire, especially for the closeness in tone, no comparison. The Gibson is a shameful price. The Sire is awesome - and for those many out there "normal" people that always dreamed of owning a Gibson, they'd have to save up for a long, LONG time as Gibson and their arrogance is second to none. Does Gibson make very good guitars, of course, but for the prices, not only no, but hell no.

    • @gioelevio1626
      @gioelevio1626  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know that I made the video but in the end I think that these two guitars are too different to be in a competition, at least in terms of price. I mean, the person that can afford a Gibson will buy the Gibson and probably not think too mutch about the Sire (which by the way, clearly wins in terms of value for money). For me they have different purposes, the Gibson is probably my favorite guitar and initially I bought the Sire to have a guitar that I can bring with me when I teach guitar lessons, but soon I discovered that is really fun to play, so I wanted to investigate a bit more, I also brought it out for a couple of shows😊.

    Gibson are unbelievably arrogant. The prices are insulting. I have a Japanese Tokai LS100Q that better than any Gibson ive ever owned, or played. No way I'd touch a Gibson again!
