Having lived in independent houses all my life, I can tell you it's pretty costly to maintain independent houses also. In flats you don't get a terrace but if you live in a society you can enjoy the common space, garden, club house etc, which you don't have in independent houses. In most of the gated communities there is 24 hours security, thus it is much safer to live in flats. I have seen people celebrate different festivals together in societies, which is real fun. These are just some of the reasons why more and more people are opting for flats these days.

By societies wht u tried to mean actually ...... cooperative societies or just housing societies. In cooperative societies such restrictions exist but otherwise not. N freehold properties u r free to make any additions alterations or renovations but certainly not any structural changes, which in any case u can't even do in ur own house coz causing structural changes is not only illegal but also unsafe.

अभी अपार्टमेन्ट के फ्लेट काफी सुरक्षित होते है, मकान मे कही जाते ही चोरी, डकैति होती है, फ्लेट मे सोसायटी सफाई, पाणी सबका ख्याल रखती है,
अपने मकान में रहने की भी अलग ही। दिक्कते हैं।

Living in apartments is like living in glorified slums .... however only 2 of the problems mentioned r major issues. Rest r ur imagination. By societies wht u tried to mean actually ...... cooperative societies or just housing societies. In cooperative societies such restrictions exist but otherwise not. N freehold properties u r free to make any additions alterations or renovations but certainly not any structural changes, which in any case u can't even do in ur own house coz causing structural changes is not only illegal but also unsafe.
