I have an older Atlas H15-44 Rock island model that used a early Lenz mobile decoder (no sound). The red/green marker lights work fine in DC Mode but when I switched it to DCC mode I have to cycle F2 to get the green/red lights to change. Your model is a nice example of the improvements that were made. Keep up the good work! 😎🚂
These are my favorite locomotives from Atlas. I bought several of the previous run and bought more with this latest run. The previous 2 runs did have those class lights. The previous run also had LokSound Select and it had a random startup where it would occasionally stall and have to be restarted (it did this automatically). I thought that was cool, but it did not make it over to the new LokSound 5 versions. regards, NS.
Hey John, it would be better if they included white class lights. If green comes on, that means a second section is following. All in all, a great job on the models.
I took mine apart, and made it short hood forward! From the pictures I could find of my specific engine, it ran short hood forward on the UP! Cab figures and control panel flipped right around😬
Excellent review as always, John. I'm continually impressed with Atlas's offerings in recent years. I've got a master series HO scale GP40 with Loksound and it is nothing short of excellent. And it's a few years old already. I also recently had cause to contact Atlas's customer service this week with a question/issue with an older (2011) N scale unit that I have and the experience was nothing short of excellent as well. -Shane
I've got an HO Atlas H15-44 F-M coming in the mail for the Central of Georgia Railroad livery. I just got my first brass Fairbanks-Morse H12-44 for the CofG livery. Another Atlas RS-3 resides in a box under the tree for Christmas. A couple of years ago I purchased a couple of Atlas GP-7's for the CofG which were nearly brand new from another modeler who was thinning his herd. I think I like the blunt trucks better on the H15-44. I only do DC as I hate the sound of HO DCC as it sounds way too tinny to me. That horn sounds more like a buzzer than a horn! Cheers from eastern TN
Err John, Please excuse my (maybe) eyesight but the demonstration of the directional lights looked (to me) as much white(r) in forward than in reverse which was a superb golden yellow. No biggie but hiccups do happen. Still beautiful and desirable models.
The trucks on the SR H16-44 are C-liner trucks, a Fairbanks Morse design that was an improvement on the AAR Type B trucks used on the earlier H15-44, and many ALCo, GE and Baldwin locomotives.

Thank you John.
Very nice models, I like the directional light detail! Nice spotlight
Thanks man hope all's well!
I think the Santa Fe had some of these, Joey. Maybe you need one? lol

Thanks for sharing! Atlas is very consistent in my experience.

I need disassembly!
I cannot get this thing apart
Stop laughing at my pain
I believe the trucks on these engines are called Barber Trucks. Southern ran Barber S-2 trucks on these engines.

I stand corrected.
