You should listen to the version with Tracy, Tim Mcgraw, and Kenny Chesney. The fact all three of them have been friends for years it speaks volumes.
I honestly never heard this song version till today, I've always thought the version of the three of them was the only version.

Man this song hits home. I use to have a large circle of "friends" when I was younger. But at the darkest part of my life everyone but 3 people bailed on me after everything I had done for them. So now those 3 people are family not friends. One of those 3 has since passed on

This year 2022 i have been through so much medical, my best friend Marisa she was with me there 100 percent. She has always loved me no matter what since day one we met. I am the same with her, I would lay down on fire to let her get across safe. She is more family to me, then most family. She has proven loyalty is thicker then even blood.

This is so true, I got my truck at a lake 30 minutes from any of my friends, I called my buddy and he was their with a chain in the 30 minute drive. He never asked for anything in return, and this has been probably 8 years ago. It ended up taking him and another truck (random stranger with a house over looking the lake, who came down and drove 15 minutes around the lake), to get me out.
Friends are friends for a season, a reason or a lifetime.

His "Time Marches On" is a great song. It's actually hard to find a bad song in his catalogue. This song was sort of a comeback for Tracey. He had been battling addiction problems and didn't really do much for quite a while prior to this. There's an alternate version featuring Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney, it's actually the version that gets the most radio play.

I've loved this song for years. It's nice how you can grow distant from people after high school or college, and yet if you needed help know they will help you in anyway they can. People like that are hard to come by these days and probably never know how much they mean to us no matter how much we tell them.

Tracy HAS "been there"; he had a pretty hard time, compared to what it was like in the 80s/90s when he was big news in the biz; he learned during that and has become a true inspiration. He and Eddie Montgomery have released a song recently about all the sacrifices....I think you'd like it. Eddie is venturing out a lot more after the loss and sorrow of Troy Gently----Its super cool.

I've had the same BFF for 33yrs. We have been thru everything together. Both my parents are gone & I discovered I had a rare genetic disease that made me extremely sick & required a liver transplant. Thank God I got a new liver & my BFF didn't want me to go to rehab when release from the hospital (I live alone), so she gave up her own bed to take care of me when I was released. She didn't want a thing except to know I was ok.

It wasn't long after this song came out that I had car troubles at my mom's house (was living there on a temp basis at the time). Called a good friend, he did exactly what this song says dropped everything he had and came to me. My mom lives out in the middle of nowhere too, yet he did so no questions asked. A damn good friend that I miss seeing face to face as he has lived in England for several years (his wife is a civilian employee for the DoD and she was transferred there).

I have that problem with my son I was there for him every time when he was young we got along great and everything was fine until now he has met a girl and he has changed and became a different person no time for Dad I thought I was going to die and I asked him to come over and he says he don't have time it really sucks I was very sick at the time and really needed my son I got really mad and told him exactly how I felt about that now I haven't seen him for almost a year

Losing my best friend to an abusive fiance was the hardest. He totally isolated her. I tried my best but there was nothing I could do. She recently reached out to me and we were going to meet up for coffee. She never showed and I got a nail in my tire three days in a row. It's a small town and he knows where I live. It really sucks. If she ever needs me or wants to leave him I will be there for her no matter the consequences.
**My odd memory with this song**
There was a girl that I had been crazy about and was off-and-on with since the 5th grade. We went to school together except our freshman year in high school. When I finally got to go to the same school as her again in 10th grade in 2007, her mom who was 32, had a flat and got hit and killed by a car when she tried crossing a road.
It was only 2 months in to our 10th grade year. 3 days before my 16th birthday. I skipped school to attend the funeral, even though I couldn't afford to miss any more days, because I missed the whole week prior to go on an elk hunting trip in Colorado. Oddly, I was tore up about it worse than she was. Because I knew I would probably never see her again, because her mom was a single parent, and she would have move to go live with foster parents somewhere.
This was one of the songs that they chose to play at the funeral.. I already knew the song, but I just thought it was a very odd choice. But it does make weird sense, given how this song starts off, and how her mom was killed.. Still an odd choice for a funeral song to me.
My husband was killed in a car accident pretty much on top of a mountain. I knew he was missing and 3 of his friends dropped everything, called off work and helped me find him. This song just kept playing in my head. It’s a good one.

The outlines The Good The bad and The ugly and which you don't want to deal with in a relationship because most of the songs are all about sad stuff! There's something about this song I just get that love and feeling from it!
Sorry for a second comment, but I totally feel you about people you know not acknowledging your work. I talk to sometimes literally thousands of people at a time for a living (I'm a national park ranger), and a lot of times my programs are posted online, but I had NO IDEA my family watched them. One thing I will say is that I think as a species, humans tend to praise strangers as, like, a societal expectation. At the same time, I think we all sometimes take the people close to us for granted and forget we need to give them props too. In my case, my family was apparently bragging on me right and left to STRANGERS, but never bothered to tell me they even watched my stuff. It's a paradox, like hurting those you love the most is.

Yep, I used to own a specialty retail business north of Houston. Had all kinds of “buddies”, went through a divorce, the judge gave her half. Basically put me out of business, 95% of those “buddies”....... crickets! Started another, now successful business, they same “buddies” have shown up wanting the “deal”. As much as I want to go pissed off E-6, I just reply sorry no can do.

In my mid-30s and there’s exactly 2 guys I know I can count on for literally anything, they’d give me a kidney if I needed it type of count on. Plenty of folks who’d welcome me in to their home no questions asked, but I know who I can count on for anything if I ask.
Thought I had 3, but he let me down in the most petty way, don’t even talk anymore, much less hang out. Unfortunate, but as you said, he fit a chapter/period of my life and then the truth came out.
There’s not a lot of black and white in life, but that’s one. You have their 6, or you don’t. Cut and dry.
He deep fries turkeys at the Nashville Rescue Mission every Thanksgiving and has gotten a lot of people involved. Thank you Tracy and all who help the homeless

This happened to me back in December. I was stranded at an airport in a major city because of a snowstorm. My best friend since 2nd grade got me a hotel room for the night and a bus ticket the next morning.

I love this song I mean my parents have raised me this way but this song also helped me to understand its ok to ask for help and be the helper I am that friend that will drop everything to come and help I don't care if I get anything in return I love my friends and will help them in anyway I can, and I have friends that have helped with car troubles and got us out of an awkward situation

Great song. I was raised that you help anybody that needs it, and hopefully they take that expirence and help when they see somebody in need.
I ask my sister to loan me some money and she said yes before I said I'll pay you back when I can and she had missed work due to a foot injury at work. About a year ago she needed 4 plane tickets back home and me and my husband gave up our rent money to bring her, my niece, my nephew, and her man back home.
