....yes it is a remake. They've completely redone the graphics and everything. And even then, it's very crappily done HD. They even cut ****ing frames out of the animations. The Genesis and Super Nintendo versions looked better. The only thing HD has going for it is some of the backgrounds.
All of it is terrible, especially the graphics. Completely kills the charm of the original. Saddest fucking thing is, if the original Shiny team had been contacted to make Earthworm Jim HD, they woud've reused all their original assets like their hand drawn animations and Jim's original voice clips in high definition. (Thankfully the DOS version still has them.) This game was just a travesty and Interplay should never have had permission to make it.
This remake looks nice, but isn't that great. They didn't have any of the original team work on this at all, nor approve of it, and it shows: everything looks new, but there's a huge lack of attention to detail and the game feels very unpolished and unloved. The voices in this are just awful. Even if they couldn't get the original voice actor (Doug TenNapel), couldn't the guy at least not sound so high-pitched and labored? The music is pretty bad too. I'm guessing that they couldn't license the original tracks from Tommy Tallarico and so they had to make some synthy crap version that loses the impact that 1990s video game music had.
The moment when i realized this was a lousy remake was when i saw Evil The Cat's "Mauling" Animation where he harmlessly spins around Jim before just casually leaving. And then i noticed he doesn't even have claws or any of the edgy shapes of the original. It's like they fucking shaved him and clipped his claws so he wouldn't scare children lmao.
When a game has a trial on the PS store you download the entire game via the trial, then the game itself is just an unlock key to gain access to the whole thing.
Yeah, sometimes murkier sound does fit better. Like the evil laughing coats in the dark forest level of DKC2. The echo effect makes it sound a little creepier and therefore better fits the mood of a haunted forest. As for EJHD, it's mostly the voices I have a problem with. Like Jim and the Crows. They just sound way too clear. You can practically hear the sound booth itself. I'm not saying games should never be remade in HD. I'm just saying that the parts have to match up
Part of the original charms are finding your ways around the levels and discovering the right way to defeat the bosses. And here we have arrows pointing at the direction you need to take and hints that tell u exactly how to defeat the bosses.
It would be cool on these remakes if they added more new levels. Why cant we get a new earthworm jim 3 with these graphics though instead of just remakes? I would agree the extra loud fart noises in the what heck are kind of annoying more than anything.
Actually I prefer the remake, but in its time the original one was outstanding and now the remake seems a little lazy when comparing with other 2D side scrollers like Rayman Origins/Legends or Ori & the Blind Forest. I found the boss hints like something out of place, but it was easy to skip them, so they almost didn't annoyed me Also, check the review of The Completionist he completed(i.e. 100% ) both games and he likes the remake.
The person who created the concept of this game is a freaking lunatic 😂 I mean cows flying space , a head bobbing singing cat in the middle of nowhere ..
Am I the only one who actually likes this version? It seems like most of the complaints are about superficial stuff. The gameplay is pretty much the same.
this makes it look like a generic flash game on newgrounds. people like the authenticity of crisp pixels, the shitty colors, pretty much the originality of the game... and this overhaul looks really amateur, the digital shading and stuff looks like shit lol
Jade I really don't see how it looks like shit. Yes, the original looks better (especially on Sega CD and Windows) but this is faithful enough. I also really enjoy how you can use the R trigger to shoot instead of X (or Square if you're on PS3).
I think it’s alright and I played this plenty on snes as a kid. The presentation is kind of shitty considering this is an “HD” version but it’s still the same game and can be just as hard if put on original.
This game is a perfect example of why AI upscaling looks awful. Pause the game during the inbetween frames of Jim’s animations and tell me it looks better than the pixel art.
The terrain looks mostly fine, but the player sprites could definitely have been reanimated by hand imo. Snot a Problem has Jim literally having Wario's nose when he's shoulderbashing. Or when he's using the helicopter in the regular levels you can see the pixels on the smear frames from the OG sprites.
I agree with you. I don't feel this game is a betrayal or anything, I'm just not interested in this particular version. Like how I prefer the SNES versions over both of the Genesis versions. It's all just a matter of preference to me. The graphics are pretty sweet but I'm not a huge fan of the music, Jim's voice, or the fact that the game has to tell you how to beat the bosses. Just not my fave version is all
The term Remake goes to a newer version of something done before, improving aspects or going deeper into the ideas done with the last game/film/etc. In this case, it doesn't improve the story or the gameplay, it's basically the same thing, just with HD graphics. Still, a bad HD port and they should had made a Remake instead.
I'm surprised that publishers don't jump on this and look at the entire nes, snes, sega master system and sega genisis library and create hd remasters of classic games. There is a huge market for nostalgia and it is cheap to develop compared to AAA games. I read that this game sold approx 500,000 copies across psn and xbox live.

@@Kaiju_King944 lol no way in hell is this game just a six.
@@CrazyLikeUhFox difficulty is subjective
I don't remember the last time I was this let down by a remake...
I wish this game has it on my Xbox Series X to play.
You got it?
@@te_amo_cr7182 Got what bro?
Earthworm Jim for Smash Bros Ultimate
That For Pete's Sake level is insane towards the end.
I love sonic hat kid earthworm Jim and olimar there my favourite video game characters
Very good sprite art.
....yes it is a remake. They've completely redone the graphics and everything. And even then, it's very crappily done HD. They even cut ****ing frames out of the animations. The Genesis and Super Nintendo versions looked better. The only thing HD has going for it is some of the backgrounds.
Why they had to do redo the entire ost bruh
They've could used the sega CD one bruh
Bro down the tubes is LITERALLY the hardest level of the game i could never get past that sht
Graphics are excellent! Music and voice acting, not so much
I don’t know, I liked the title screen music
All of it is terrible, especially the graphics. Completely kills the charm of the original. Saddest fucking thing is, if the original Shiny team had been contacted to make Earthworm Jim HD, they woud've reused all their original assets like their hand drawn animations and Jim's original voice clips in high definition. (Thankfully the DOS version still has them.) This game was just a travesty and Interplay should never have had permission to make it.
@@corralzin4909 The AI upscaling looks artificial and bad.
@@mikeax24
I was about to say, I’m sure I remember him pantsing Jim when he hit you lmao
48:53 stupid mission
It would be cool on these remakes if they added more new levels. Why cant we get a new earthworm jim 3 with these graphics though instead of just remakes?
I would agree the extra loud fart noises in the what heck are kind of annoying more than anything.
Joe Franlin If they did Earthworm Jim 3 I'd want the original team doing it again. HD was a disaster compared to 1 and 2.
edward18517 It was 2010. Don't expect this to be 2015 steam stuff.
Bottom line: Don't screw around with a classic.
Unless you do a good job, like in spongebob battle for bikini bottom rehydrated’s case
What's so dumb is that they could have just scanned the original art for HD.
In this version you don't get the proper ending unless you play on a high enough difficulty (at least Hard, I think).
This version holds your hand every step of the way.
Hopefully it's not like that in original mode.
you can turn the hints off
I had the sega cd version of this...cool voice acting, and it had the afro costume in it as well!
Am I the only one who likes this remake?
Were you born in the wrong generation?
+PAC- MAN (The king of Arcades/VG) I love it.
Actually I prefer the remake, but in its time the original one was outstanding and now the remake seems a little lazy when comparing with other 2D side scrollers like Rayman Origins/Legends or Ori & the Blind Forest.
I found the boss hints like something out of place, but it was easy to skip them, so they almost didn't annoyed me
Also, check the review of The Completionist he completed(i.e. 100% ) both games and he likes the remake.
I like it too
I love it.
That's because Special Edition is not looping the song fully. Its second part consists of an excellent guitar riff.
37:10 The only thing I have to say about Psycrow’s failed attempts onto now is the line he said in the cartoon: “Maximum suckage.”
How to spoil a perfect game with savings, hints, achievements and unlockables.
Yes, because saving your game is a bad thing.
I'm fine with everything but hints, not liking saving is just stupid in my opinion, it's frustrating having your progress not save.
TheSteelShow A save that would have kept the original’s difficulty is one that deleted on GameOvers
The person who created the concept of this game is a freaking lunatic 😂 I mean cows flying space , a head bobbing singing cat in the middle of nowhere ..
Brutal tuning graphics! I like this!
Jade I actually like this version too
Jade I really don't see how it looks like shit.
Does this use a emulator? Because Xbox 360 always break so you might of used a emulator.
This game is a perfect example of why AI upscaling looks awful. Pause the game during the inbetween frames of Jim’s animations and tell me it looks better than the pixel art.
looks great to me
The terrain looks mostly fine, but the player sprites could definitely have been reanimated by hand imo. Snot a Problem has Jim literally having Wario's nose when he's shoulderbashing. Or when he's using the helicopter in the regular levels you can see the pixels on the smear frames from the OG sprites.
It's also missing frames, like a lot of them. It looks clunky, unfinished. Backgrounds are terrible as well, Snot a Problem specially looks like ASS
Just not my fave version is all
Jesus were you AIMING for the asteroids?
Just realized the intro music is the same as "for pete's sake" stage
The term Remake goes to a newer version of something done before, improving aspects or going deeper into the ideas done with the last game/film/etc.
In this case, it doesn't improve the story or the gameplay, it's basically the same thing, just with HD graphics.
Still, a bad HD port and they should had made a Remake instead.
HD =/= better. Compare the AI upscaled versions of Jim’s sprites in this with the pixel art of the originals and tell me which honestly looks better.
I'd prefer the Sega CD Soundtrack better.
where the little mushroom cloud that came out of the suite when he dies and his head falls into it
I'm surprised that publishers don't jump on this and look at the entire nes, snes, sega master system and sega genisis library and create hd remasters of classic games. There is a huge market for nostalgia and it is cheap to develop compared to AAA games. I read that this game sold approx 500,000 copies across psn and xbox live.
that's a real testament to the original that though this is clearly a shinier remake, it's not THAT much better looking
Me recuerda a la versión de DS y la de iphone
Sadly no "Big Bruty" level.

Graphics exellent, but i want original music and sound from Sega Genesis..
I also noticed at the end credits don’t have any of the animations from the original
some moments from the HD remake are ok but the game is a pile of crap.... I'm going back the the Real HD remake (Special Edition even tho it isn't HD)
@@codyryan9789 Anything is better than the GBA Earthworm Jims. This remake is still a pile of crap.
Lol, why? It's the exact same game with visual enhancements. It's amazing how fussy some people are.
