Not A fan of FNAF but i'll give this a watch, you've never made a boring video and it will be interesting to listen to someone who isn't a superfan explain things.
Every time I watch one of your videos, I get surprised by the view number and your subscriber count. The quality of your work is so consistently high, you deserve so much more exposure.
Now THIS is the content I live for. Thanks for actually pointing out that despite the discourse of the series being submerged with a sorta wink wink nudge sorta levity there's a lot of actual work and solid game design that went into the series to make it so prolific.
I waiting for the joke where one day someone receives a VHS mysteriously in the post and they just look at it and say "What is this thing?" And then I'll die of old age.
Lmaoo that sketch of the blinking Fasbear eyes in the background got me, just for you to jump scare me was hilarious. I can honestly say the scariest games are all point and clicks for me personally, foxy's run in fnaf 1 even slowed down i feel ptsd no matter what. I have only kept up with the lore and story*( wink, wink) but for the life of me i cannot get past Fnaf 2, like i have an irrational fear of the clear space in front of the desk. I can remember the first time i played it on my Galaxy S5 and i froze as soon as i saw the flashed out empty corridor and heard the aircon buzz, deleted the "fully paid for apk" game from my files
Absolutely my favorite video of yours for keeping entirely invested in a series I have zero experience in. This was super fascinating and pointed, the 4 hours were a breeze. Well done sir
It's not like this really matters because no one considers it canon anymore but I vehemently disagree with the idea that Dream Theory was ever intended. For one, I don't think that you play as CC during the night time segments. The game _wants_ you to think that, like how FNAF 2 wants you to think that it's a sequel, but several key elements prove otherwise, like the fact that the room is entirely different from the minigame room (with 2 doors and a closet with a bed in the middle as opposed to a bed at the side with only one door), and the fact that you can sometimes hear the first FNAF 1 phone call distorted in the background. So whomever we play as is someone who also lived in this house and has recently heard that phone call. By process of elimination that means that this is Foxybro's room, and that he is Mike Schmidt. That's what I think the box was going to reveal. He's dreaming in the present about the events of his childhood which is being corrupted into nightmares by the guilt of killing his brother as well as his current working situation in Freddy's, Bonnie and Chica at either side, Foxy hiding in a cove, and Freddy moving when left unattended. He keeps coming back to work night after night as the guard in 1 and 3, (and the night 7 guard in 2 because of the similar pink slip) in hopes of reuniting with his younger brother, who now possesses Golden Freddy, and giving him his happiest day. _That_ is how "four games" are "one story". Scott only decided to keep the box closed because he didn't want to spoil the fun of theorizing, but people took that has confirmation if it being something controversial which led them down a path that was ultimately incorrect. The nail in the coffin for this is that in a pre-UCN post, Scott made several jokes about character mechanics that were meant to be references to bad fan theories. One explained how Foxy would run down the hall to help you, a reference to good guy Foxy from FNAF 1, another that said that Springtrap and Phone Guy can't be in the same place at the same time, a reference to the Purple Guy is Phone Guy theory, and the last was dedicated to Nightmare Freddy, specifically that he would appear with an alarm clock that you'd have to quickly press to wake up in your bed before continuing the night, an obvious reference to Dream Theory. If that truly was the intention for FNAF 4, then I don't imagine he'd lump the answer to the entire franchise in with the other two, I think it's him confirming that MatPat was wrong. He also said in the Dawko interview that he considered elements of what would become FNAF 5 all the way back during FNAF 2's development, and because Sister Location so _thoroughly_ proves Dream Theory incorrect, I think it was just a product of the fans in the moment trying solve what was at the time an _unsolvable_ story, given that we didn't have the _other_ two games in its pseudo trilogy, World and Sister Location, released yet. For the record, elements of World is what I think explains the Chica beak thing but that's a whole other can of worms lmao. Either way, really great retrospective, it was a ton of fun to watch!
You have no idea how badly I’ve wanted someone to make a video like this and do a deep dive on this game, and thankfully you’re the one who decided to put in that effort! Can’t wait to watch this bad boy!
Still can’t believe this video has 7k views. This is honestly some of the best, most extensive analysis of the FNAF series. Keep up this amazing work, man
Just finished your KH video (foaming at the mouth for KH2 one btw. That was a phenomenal restrospective that managed to capture exactly what I also thought about it). I am so pumped to settle into this 4 hour beast. Thanks for the unimaginable amount of time spent to produce a 4hr+ video
Fantastic, as per usual. I have 0 interest in playing these games as I can't handle jump-scary horror, but as with most of your content it was still a cozy watch. Best of luck on the next project!
I've never been even remotely interested in the games themselves, but I had a weird obsession with the lore back when GameTheory started doing videos on it. It's so interesting and vague, which I think is the core reason as to why I'm so interested. I think you're spot on with how the interest would drop like a rock in water if Scott ever fully laid out the entire story, because it sure would for me. That part about story vs. lore was also an eye opener for me when looking at story in general, so that's appreciated. Anyways, at this point I'm at the part where you start talking about Security Breach, but I'm gonna need to take a break haha. Also oh no, I'm not the hottest youtuber anymore aaah
I appreciate the whole mindset, there also games I like that people will all too easily dismiss just because there's one goofy thing or what have you they use to judge the whole product
I have never played a FNAF game but I really enjoyed this video and all of your videos to be honest. I believe you are genuinely under subbed, keep making exceptionally high quality content and I am sure wide spread success will come. I check in on your channel every three months or so and am always happy when there is a new vid!!!! keep it up boss
I love what you're doing with this channel. I am going to throw my hat in the ring with some analysis projects on TH-cam soon and this has been a really inspiring watch so far. Very well drawn project and I appreciate your conclusions.
Wow buddy. This is wonderfully made. 2:26:25 I’ve been listening to this at night while studying for my server test. Super interesting- and helps me understand the story better! Can’t wait to watch the movie with ya.
Thanks I was curious about kingdom hearts and dipping my toes into the franchise, and I’m pretty well versed in fnaf, probably will be watching these many times, with all respect long formats are my sleep aid, best of luck on your content ❤ can’t wait to see what’s next
Coming from the podcast. I'm happy to listen to this while working. I'll watch the intro during my break. Sorry I don't get to see the rest of the visual editing, or the promised jumpscare. P.S. I don't expect you to read this either soooo, comment to feed the algorithm?
I’ve always been a big fan of fnaf ever since the first game. As time went on my enthusiasm diminished somewhat. Following fnaf4 I found the games became less and less scary in general. Not in gameplay necessarily, but rather conceptually. The tone and atmosphere just didn’t do it for me like it used to. This all came to a head in security breach, which didn’t appeal to me on any level. I assumed that I had just changed and my tastes had evolved, until I started seeing all that analogue fnaf vhs horror stuff that had been coming out and it was mostly pretty great. Honestly I think a big part of it was what you discussed in this video; story vs lore. I think these games were much better suited to simply gesturing at a plot rather than actually having one. Or maybe these games could have had a great story but Scott just wasn’t as competent a writer as he was a dev. Something as simple and effectively creepy as a haunted animatronic doesn’t seem to really justify a fleshed out narrative. I struggle to see how anyone could come up with a plot for such a concept without it immediately becoming ludicrous. Was looking forward to fnaf plus though. Shame about all that. Also, one of the scariest moments in this video was the surprise appearance of Xemnas’s zebra robe. Horrifying. Really great vid/analysis though. Looking forward to more of your work.
2:13:28 I'm not sure how the team switching things up on him without his knowledge is a slight against his leadership I mean I'm not sure that I agree with him that certain things need to be done by a certain time, but I dont think that's the problem, I guess I don't understand?
It’s not the fact that they ballooned the scope, it’s the fact that he was unable to adjust when this happened. He either could have told them to stick closer to the plan that he had originally envisioned in order to release at or closer to the original date he proposed, or changed his idea of how long the project would take in order to give them enough time to complete the more ambitious version they came up with. That’s the gist of the argument anyway
Listening to you gushing about the sound in Security Breach and its DLC is making me to want a) play the games myself (I never played any FNAFs) and b) for you to play Thief games (especially Deadly Shadows) as their sound is half the reason I play them. Chances are, you'll have a blast. Speaking of sound enhancing the world. The reason I love Splinter Cell 1 (one of) is when you come close to wall clocks there you a) see the clocks are moving and b) you hear the ticking noises. You just feel as a part of this world. And when I play Chaos Theory and see similar wall clocks but they are just flat static textures with no background sounds. Even if Chaos Theory is a better game on a technical level, I just don't feel as invested in it, as I do in original Splinter Cell Unlike you, I'm not a sound engineer, but I notice all the little sounds and just love how they create a solid picture that envelops you and invites you in the new world
question, even with all of this masterful design in all theese games, why did caddicarus and so many others misunderstand the first 3 as "jumpscare simulators"? is there something lost in translation with theese people?
It’s the easiest way to categorize it. And truly, if you play it only once, or only see people playing it online, I think it’s easy to come to that conclusion. It does have the highest jumpscare to playtime ratio of just about any horror game on average I’d say, so it’s understandable.
@@Tetramorre ive played and beaten a handfull ammount of them (mostly on mobile, and the vr games on a quest 2) so i can tell that th jumpscares are a punishment, not the rule. tho i will never forget beating fnaf 1 night 6 on my 12 mini, in the middle of a dave and busters arcade and WON by the pepporoni on chicas bib. super clutch final minuete (probably frame perfect) win.
Great video, I'm not super familiar with FNAF beyond the first 2 games but this has been a fascinating watch. What's the song that's playing at 2:29:10 BTW?
Wait, so Tetramorre is not a strong black woman? Unsubbed. In all seriousness, I see more and more people talk about fnaf in a complimentary manner. Hopefully this vid will explain why. Edit: I get it now. Great video.
Time guards against his various attacks, especially the one where he rushes across the arena. This will open him up to retaliations. Aerial combos offer faster recoveries typically so use those. Dodge roll away from submit and try and hit him after every attack, he leaves himself open pretty regularly. Remember that you can dodge roll into his attacks rather than away from them, making use of the invincibility frames which will keep you in close and allow you to hit him easier. Always have Aero up to give yourself more defense. Take plenty of healing potions or magic restoring ethers, or better than that get some elixirs. All else fails you can always go farm some more levels, craft some better gear, the usual stuff. Barring anything else working, spam strike raid!
That dude is rough. Again I’d say Aero is a big help. If you aren’t high enough level to just tank your way through the lasers and keep hitting then fly around while he’s shooting them and only fly in to attack in between laser volleys. Other than that, good luck lol
Just beat the game. No leaf bracer, no second chance, no strike raid. The first phase was the hardest, definitely. I beat the last phase first try and the ending scene is awesome. 8/10 game that I can't wait to play for a 2nd time someday
Was this video inspired by Thafnine's (since it was mentioned in the last video) or was it a case of convergent creation? note: this isn't to diminish the video if it was inspired by/in response to Thafnine's
Please tell me I'm not the only one who made that joke. My crippling need to be part of the crowd and to not rock the boat will give me anxiety otherwise.
Bonnie and Chica don't care if the camera's are on them when their movement opportunity is up. This is testable in custom night: when Bonnie or Chica are set to AI level 20, every 5 or so seconds they will move whether your camera is on them or not. Were this not the case, having the camera on the show stage at the start of the night would result in none of the animatronics moving even on 4/20 mode.
Long story short, I feel pretty vindicated in saying that Scott was the weak link during that development, and it would seem he agrees. Him saying that he basically drip fed the story to the devs in the same way he would the fans was very eye opening to how things ended up and how things are progressing.
Their was one criticism I have for this video, but I understand why you might have not referenced it. FNAF World actually has lore applicable to the main series. Very rarely when staring the game, adventure fredbear with into an Atari sprite when talking to you at the beginning of the game, and give you instructions to find minigames throughout the overworld. The minigames are the same ones from FNAF 3, and you complete each minigame by puting back each of the things you collect in fnaf 3 minigames to get the good ending. The game also implies that you are playing as crying child who became golden freddy after they died, and rpg is some abstract verison of influencing reality or something. I can understand why you didn’t bring it up because the halloween update Purposely ignore this. I Don't think it would have Change your analysis of the click team story, but still I wanted to bring attention to it.
Ah the clocks ending right? Yeah I didn’t look super far in to all of that cause it’s not commonly discussed, not to mention the story takes a different direction after World anyway. I’m sure someone here will be interested in knowing this tho
A horror game should scare the player. Jump scares don't scare the player. They startle. At worst, they break immersion and are just annoying. If random loud noises are all it takes to be scary then MLG montages and TH-cam Poops are the pinnacle of modern horror.
Long form content like this is more my style Edit: this is because all of my ideas sort of build off each other. In an episodic style each section would feel incomplete
Video series don't do as well as one long video. Each subsequent video would get less clicks. The algorithm assumes this means that the channel is unappealing for viewers and will deprioritize recommending the channel's videos.
2:16:00 Man, I've been binging your videos lately and really enjoying them for the insightful discussion, but this rant here just kind of sours my view of your content. Whether it 'worked' or not, speaking out against those who want to limit our rights and erase us, and those who support them, is very important- CERTAINLY more important than making sure some millionaire can give us tidbits about a game series he's not even a primary developer of anymore. If you don't understand that, I feel you probably haven't experienced much of the discrimination that minorities (whether LGBT or not) face as a fact of life.
If you believe that the way that situation was handled was worth it, then more power to you. I think there’s a much more complex discussion to be had here than is valuable in a comment thread on a funny bear game, and plenty of people have had it already. You and yours stand for what you believe in. Just don’t give people death threats
@@Tetramorre My problem with this response is that the value proposition you present doesn't represent the reality of the situation. You present the situation as if: A. Scott Cawthon's retirement was a great loss to the fans (which I would at least somewhat disagree with) and B. Scott Cawthon had no choice but to retire after the controversies, which I would STRONGLY disagree with. While there were likely a small number of fringe individuals doing horrible shit like doxxing and or death threats as a result, this isn't exactly uncommon, and the vast majority of the response was merely a large expression of disapproval and discontent. Cawthon very well could have addressed the controversy and perhaps even gained some respect back- however, he chose not to, and instead chose retirement. My problem with how you presented it in this video isn't that you disagree with me. It's that you present it in a disingenuous light, making it sound like "a bunch of whiny people MADE Cawthon quit and now my retrospective is worse off for it!" Not to mention that the whole 'was it worth it' part feels completely pointless, since you seem to either not understand or ignore that the point of pretty much every situation like this is to demand better from the people who have influence, and make the world a better place as a result. All that said, I'm just a viewer commentimg on a fairly old video, and it's not like I have any illusions that it'll change as a result of this comment. I just hope you'll consider these things in the future, because it sucks to be made to believe that a content creator you enjoy doesn't value your identity or opinion.
The rant around 2 hours and 15 minutes in about sections of the fan base being upset that Scott funded people that are actively looking to have them wiped off the face of the Earth was a really bizarre tangent, lol.
Not really. The "tangent" pertains to how a bunch of people who can't separate the art from the artist and his beliefs threw a hissy fit which resulted in less transparency regarding the development of Security Breach. Not really difficult to understand the point made in the video.
"I don't expect you to watch this video in one sitting" Jokes on you :)
I like how a good number of your deaths in SB are just Roxy teleporting behind you like an anime villain.
"nothing personal Gregory"

Remember that you can dodge roll into his attacks rather than away from them, making use of the invincibility frames which will keep you in close and allow you to hit him easier. Always have Aero up to give yourself more defense. Take plenty of healing potions or magic restoring ethers, or better than that get some elixirs. All else fails you can always go farm some more levels, craft some better gear, the usual stuff. Barring anything else working, spam strike raid!
Literally an hour after I posted this, I beat him 😂. Any advice for the final boss tho? These lasers are insane
Incredible. We have the same face
Was this video inspired by Thafnine's (since it was mentioned in the last video) or was it a case of convergent creation?
note: this isn't to diminish the video if it was inspired by/in response to Thafnine's
More convergent, I think my video entered pre-production well before I watched that one
Huh... I knew kingdom hearts was an impenetrable mess of games but I didn't know they went so... avant-garde in their direction.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who made that joke. My crippling need to be part of the crowd and to not rock the boat will give me anxiety otherwise.
That was an excellent joke and I appreciate it
1:08:51 mmm yes, I love minutes of just static when I cannot look at the screen due to my job consisting of the operation of a motor vehicle.
How was this kept from me for 4 months? I love myself a 4 hour video with a warning
Good video but... 13:11 no, looking at *any* animatronic on the camera stuns them, and having the cameras up at all means Foxy won't move
Alright!
Well well well seems as though paths have been aligned mgs and fnaf
i wonder, what are your thoughts of the interview that happened a few weeks ago? especally the SB development history part.
Long story short, I feel pretty vindicated in saying that Scott was the weak link during that development, and it would seem he agrees. Him saying that he basically drip fed the story to the devs in the same way he would the fans was very eye opening to how things ended up and how things are progressing.
@@Tetramorre yeah, and im guessing hes either fixing the massive deviation with the lore or working with it.
Appeased be the algorithm
GiBi does a wonderful time explaining FNAF world

A horror game should scare the player.
Jump scares don't scare the player. They startle. At worst, they break immersion and are just annoying.
If random loud noises are all it takes to be scary then MLG montages and TH-cam Poops are the pinnacle of modern horror.
What does "number one - twice" mean?
joy of creation is definitely one that surpasses the OG.
That’s how she remembered her birthday was on the 11th - two ones, number one twice
@@Tetramorre Oooh thank you! my guess was she had two parties there so "the number 1 birthday girl" twice.
Section f

its not long enough
No more KH?
I’m always working on my next kh video
Why not use episodes instead of timestamps in the description?
Long form content like this is more my style
Edit: this is because all of my ideas sort of build off each other. In an episodic style each section would feel incomplete
Video series don't do as well as one long video.
Each subsequent video would get less clicks. The algorithm assumes this means that the channel is unappealing for viewers and will deprioritize recommending the channel's videos.
@@LethargicGM bro, you literally didn't understand what I was referring to.
@@Warhammer_lover?
Jesus, none of us understood each other. WHAT I MEANT WAS WHY AREN'T TIME CODES ON THE VIDEOBAR, WHY ARE THEY STUFFED INTO DESCRIPTION????
nice calves
Lol wasn’t it lol? crazy haha
Not really. The "tangent" pertains to how a bunch of people who can't separate the art from the artist and his beliefs threw a hissy fit which resulted in less transparency regarding the development of Security Breach. Not really difficult to understand the point made in the video.
