    All of your hard work has really paid off, everything looks so good and neat! I love a fresh, clean blank new bed; can't wait to see it all planted up.

    I love the extension to your flowerbed, you can fill it so many beautiful shrubs and it will look amazing. It is such a great feeling of satisfaction when your plans start coming together.

    I’ve downsized to a much smaller property, nowhere near sz of yours. I do have a White House, gray hardscape, line of 6green giant and share your garden palette. So many of your projects are things I have been hesitating about so I really love seeing the videos so I can imagine what improvements will look like, on a much smaller scale. Thank you for sharing your garden plans!

    Hi Matthew! It's nice seeing the mulch down. I can now see your plans for the new beds. It looks amazing! I'm looking forward to the hydrangea tour! Will you be showing your vegetable garden cleanup? Also, would love to see how you make your tomato sauce, if you would please consider showing that. I'd like to make some if I get enough tomatoes, but have never done it before. Thank you so much for sharing!

    You are Farrrrr more organized than I am. 😜
    Dig here, dig there,.. little here, little there.. Sprinkle here, sprinkle there.. sprinkle everywhere. 🌱🌱😍😆
    I should really look into some drip lines though... save me from lugging’ hoses. Especially on my hillside tiered garden stairs. Phew 😅
    But I love the clean lines.. the beds will be huge. 👏🏻 The best kinds of beds are the big ones.😉
    Keep growing. 🌱🙏🏻

    You are so amazing. 😮Love how relaxed you are, just moving from one thing to the next. I’m so nervous to do any of this. I bought a giant pile of soil. I thought I was gonna need soil. Omg! 😂 I was wondering which size auger you would recommend for planting a row of 1-2 foot high arborvitae. I love your green screen. Also, I love how you put that redbud, right into the bed. I was doing some research, and it said some trees are bad for flower beds because the roots are really aggressive, and I’m still trying to figure which ones are good options. 😮‍💨

    Please consider adding a gimbal to your gear. Maybe one of the osmo gimbals? 🤷🏼‍♀️ they look amazing.

      I have one, but I mainly use it for garden tours because it takes a while to set up. It's not easy to hold around 10lbs in camera gear out from your arm steadily. haha. I also don't want to mess the gimbal up and get it dirty when doing tasks like this since it was pretty expensive.

    • @thistooiseds3215
      @thistooiseds3215 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden ahhh the DJI gimbals are for cell phones. If you like that idea, the OM 5 is super light. Not expensive either. I have just ordered one and can’t wait to experiment. I’m intrigued by how it works with the FiLMic Pro app for cinematography.
      Anyway…again: you’re doing great work and I’m looking forward to seeing your channel and gardens grow! Maybe a video about how you and Jess became friends would be nice? Does that exist already?

      That is a Carolina Sweetheart redbud. It is supposed to have variegated and pink foliage, but it could take several years to start showing variegation to my understanding.

      The Southerner's Northern Garden oh!!! It looked like a flame thrower! The flame thrower has red, yellow and orange leaves instead. They look so similar when they are small. I cannot wait to see the leaves on yours as it grows!! Have a blessed day and thank you for inspiring me to create a new flower bed as well which I completed this past weekend! 🌷🌷🌷

      I bought triple shredded mulch at Lowe’s it’s Scott’s brand which I’ve never used before so I’m not sure how good it is. We will see it will be in my new hydrangea bed.

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've also used triple shred from Lowe's and it works pretty well. It's what I used to put over the bed around the new fountain out back since I didn't want bulk mulch delivered earlier in the year. It's not as fine as the bulk mulch I get, but still pretty good.

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a watering bag. You fill it and it releases the water slowly over time. Now that I’m running drip to that area it will probably get removed.

      @@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden I had no idea such things existed, thank you so much!!! I absolutely could use one of those until my drip is installed - so glad I asked!

    question: is there no need to add soil? just the mulch? I just want to be sure I am understanding correctly. Thanks! Enjoy all your tips!

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you want, you can. Especially if you have poor soil already. Some people add compost. For me a very thick layer of the triple shred mulch was good enough.

  • @Boogietime
    @Boogietime 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You need a camera stabilizer. I just found your videos & I love them but I got dizzy at times when you were holding the camera.

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m sorry! I have one, but when I’m doing dirty work I don’t use it because I don’t want it damaged. It also greatly slows down the video shooting process and I had a lot to do. I’ll break it out again in the future if I have time. I do use it for garden tours.

  • @karchvs

    Where did you get your mulch?

  • @cheesekake1841
    @cheesekake1841 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, What kind of mulch do you use in this video? We also have clay soil and plan to do something like this to mend our soil. I'm guessing cedar mulch should be okay do you know? Thanks for the video series, they're very helpful and we love how you design and do everything meticulously which makes your gardens so beautiful.

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just a triple shred hardwood mulch. I imagine cedar mulch will work fine, but I've never used it and don't know anything about it. It may break down slower depending on the size of the pieces.

  • @lupenunez1361
    @lupenunez1361 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ver nice. What kind of mulch do you use because I’m having a hard time choosing one for clay, rocky soil in zone 8.

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s just a triple shred natural color. I don’t used dyed mulch unless it’s a natural dye. It all fades anyway.

    Is there any update on your blaclace elderberry? Has it put on any growth?

  • @silencedflower8441
    @silencedflower8441 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ooo ooo question 🙋🏼‍♀️
    I started some late Roma tomatoes.. I have never grown Roma tomatoes before... should I be putting them in cages or on a trellis? How should I best support them? I have three in the ground in a small raised bed with a couple green peppers., only have small cages around them. But I also have 10others that are still in large pots., have a bed that just opened up. Going to do rows of five but trying to figure out how best to support them.
    Thanks for any advice. 🙏🏻✌🏻

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Romas are determinate tomatoes, so they could probably be supported using a large tomato cage only. They won't get as large as indeterminate tomatoes and tend to ripen all their fruit at once.

    • @silencedflower8441
      @silencedflower8441 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome. Thank you 🌱
      I had noticed Jess had been growing some odd shaped tomatoes and she said they were Roma’s. So I grabbed some the next time, I had seen them without giving it much thought as to where I was going to grow them or what to use to support them.
      I think I need to put in some rows in with permanent supports for this kinda thing eventually.
      Additionally.. I would love to get some cow panels and make some arches. I see climbing roses and sweet peas 😍😜🙏🏻
