    Haven't heard of the Karoo. I was looking into the Garmin until my bike shop talked me into a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt. I have to say I'm very happy with it after 1.5 years. Very simple and straightforward to set up using your phone. Not to mention there's something about the monochromatic display in the bright sun.

    This was excellent, Des. Beautiful, and so timely! Riding this in three weeks. So many questions about your gear. Do you suggest Ikons? How aerodynamic were you attempting to be - helmet /clothing? Ever tried the USWE pack w the GoPro attachment. (I'm considering that w 3L bladder) What was your biggest training ride? The next time you do this, anything you would do differently , not carry/ carry? Thank you@DesFit !

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I liked Ikons - there's very few technical sections so they worked well by being fast rolling over most of the terrain, while also providing a good amount of float over the sandy sections (I ran 2.35's). Zero attempts at being aero 😂 I didn't actually do much specific training for this ride - my friend and I just thought about it a few weeks beforehand and decided to do it, but we both consistently do 2-3 hour long training sessions. Most of my rides range from 25-50 miles. There's not much I would change with the next go, I think we planned well. Good luck and have fun!

      did this ride in Oct finally! So we made it in Aspens front and rear. Totally overestimated the need for traction! Other than Hogsback and Hardscrabble, traction is not an issue, and at that, I think I spun out once or twice on the climb. Anyway. Amazing ride. 9 hrs ride time 11 hrs overall with stops. Can't believe you made it in 7 hrs. Congrats on a fast rip! @@DesFit

    Does the wahoo work decently well for navigation in terms of mountain biking? I live in the PNW, which means heavily wooded trails. So if you're somewhere you've never been, you need some kind of aid to get you where you need to go at times since there isn't clear sightlines.
    I'm having trouble justifying the price of a Garmin that has navigation. I've thought about just using a phone mount and taking along my backup phone. The issue with that is I can't find a mount that goes on your top tube to hold a phone. They make them for bike computers and they are really sleek. So I was looking into the cheapest bike computer that has navigation, which lead me to Wahoo. I don't need anything fancy. I'm more about jumping than going for long distances and tracking stats (though that stuff is kind of neat.) I just need some basic navigation in a small package. Do you think the Wahoo is good enough to get the job done for that kind of usage?

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  ปีที่แล้ว

      A Wahoo will work but the mapping and navigation with a Garmin is much more robust. Wahoo devices don't collect any jump metrics.
