- The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air now streaming on Max.
About: Will's mom sends him away from his rough Philadelphia neighborhood to live with wealthy Uncle Phil and Aunt Vivian in Bel-Air. Will often has fun at the expense of stuck-up cousins Carlton and Hilary.
Uncle Phil yelling at the cops for arresting will and Carlton without the right process to do so is my favorite part
I love how he stands up for his wife.
It doesn't get too much attention, but Mr Firth looked pretty pissed off too. The way he backs up with a smirk on his face when he knows that Shredder is about to come out is great to see.
Right at the end of his talk with the cops, The Shredder came out!😂
Yes, they take advantage of people who don't understand their rights. It sometimes takes a man of Uncle Phil's expertise to put them in check
@@aurorablaizetrue its a great detail many other shows would miss I think. it showed the friendship of uncle phil and he has people in his profession that trust and respect him, they are his friends
We all need an Uncle Phil !!!
We wish our dads and uncles are like Uncle Phil.
I know I wish I'd did more so with the last one where his dad walked out again. And uncle Phil just stood there let him blow up at him. to let the dam that was holding back the pain and when it was done breaking just held him to let will know I'm here let it all out
And a Carl Winslow.
I have my Dad. But my Dad was Uncle Phill to atleast 3 of my cousins. 😂
A lot of people need a good father but we don't get it
“You are my son Will. End of story.” That and the last scene will never not bring tears to my eyes.
Agreed.
I hear you---crying right now too, again.
Other than a step son, James Avery didn’t have any children of his own, and he turned out to be one of TVs best fathers, same as Reginald VelJohnson.
R.I.P. Big Guy
You are so right, and he will be so missed 😢
Very true.
He was also in the Brady bunch movie I never noticed it till a few Days ago
@@EarlBiggs And the driving instructor in "License to drive" with Corey Haim
@@robertspivey7596 never saw that show
Yes!!! Uncle Phil was everything most of us 80s babies and 90s children needed growing up and never knew it!! R.I.P James Avery!!! May the 2030s children appreciate what our 90s children did!!!
Wish I had had an uncle Phil.....
James Avery was an incredible actor & person. The world lost a true jewel when he passed away.
will smith was born in 1968. wtf r u talking about.
@@lineaglehorse9615Not talking about Will Smith, it’s about James Avery.
@@tbone3972 its just a show grow up
Will: How come he don’t want me man?
Uncle Phil’s hug was like him saying “I want you”
Will Smith went off-script in that scene, and started talking about his own feelings about the real (lack of) relationship with his own father. It wasn't Uncle Phil hugging his nephew, it was James Avery hugging his friend.
@@TheDave413 actually that's false Will Smith even clarified that he had a relationship with his real father. Will Smith is just a great actor.
@@jamesjenkins400 Wherever he went to deliver it, it sure as hell delivered.
"How come he don't want me, man?"
That's not Uncle Phil hugging his nephew, that's James Avery pulling Will back from wherever he went to deliver that line.
*“THAT YOUR GRANDCHILDREN ARE GONNA NEED LAWYERS”* 💀 Goosebumps every time
A little bit of shredder came out there
@@Lillypad420I would have said " OPEN THAT DAMN CELL & LET THOSE KIDS GO OR I,LL TIE THIS PLACE UP IN SO MUCH LITIGATION THAT YOUR GRANDCHILDREN,S GRANDCHILDREN WILL NEED LAWYERS!!
@@Lillypad420WHOA!!
@@Lillypad420 "These kids know me as "Dad" and "Uncle". But YOU may call me....THE SHREDDER."
Oh, Uncle Phil channeled his inner demon and those 2 bit mall security cops were cowering in fear.
Uncle Phil was EXACTLY right when he looked at Will and said "You ARE my son. End of story. And you better be by a phone on Sundays." Lou may have donated the DNA to create Will, but PHIL was the one who raised him, who was a father to him, and treated him as he did the rest of his kids.

Phillip banks: qualified lawyer, seductive smooth talker, badass family protector and certified G
He’s definitely one of kind
Don’t forget expert pool player. Especially when he breaks out Lucille.
He was a high ranking judge, too
RIP James Avery! 😢
I miss that big Fella, Girl!😥😥😥
Uncle Phil was everything and more ❤️
Uncle phil was a better father to Will that his bilogical father was
@@chrisniyubahwe5686 Will's biological father in the show was deadbeat
Uncle Phil, Uncle Iroh, and Uncle Fester. Literally the most supportive and forgiving...but relentlessly and savagely protective...trio of uncles there could ever be. All you need in life.
Uncle Fester...now THERE is the fun Uncle!
Honorable mention: Uncle Jesse from Full House and Fuller House
*Listen* to that last scene, right about the time Phil knocks Will's hat off while hugging him. You hear another voice in the mix, a *woman's* voice, letting out a sob too. This scene was so powerful it made the *crew* cry.
As I understand it, that was the actress playing Phil’s daughter
I've never heard the female voice until you just pointed it out 😭
It was Karyn Parsons, who played Hillary.
Never caught that
Ain't no woman's voice in the mix
You're my son Will end of story... How important is to know that when you have hard times
Will lost a father but gained a better father.
@@CloofinderI'm surprised that Phil didn't adopt Will.
Philip sweet side was how James was in real life...he was truly a giant teddy bear.
Continue to rest peacefully,
Mr.James Avery.
You are forever our Uncle Phil.🕊️
That scene about his dad kills me
I just knew that they were going to save the best for last ❤❤❤, will Smith is an incredible actor and Uncle Phil was the new Bill Cosby, both excellent in their roles
Had me in tears. RIP Uncle Phil.
@@jensz9360I can't watch the episode where Will's father returns without crying HARD.😢
don’t compare him to Cosby he doesn’t deserve to be compared to that vile man

That last scene makes me tear up every time.
Me too
You know, Will was having trouble conveying his emotions in that scene, so James Avery, the brilliant actor and man that he is, tells Will to use his energy, and this scene plays out. In the last bit of the scene. James whispered to Will, "Now that is real f*cking acting."
I just watched it again...and I'm tearing up, too. Ya know why?
Been there, done that, and dealt with that pain. Worse yet, my own "Dad" molested me, and beat up on my Brother and Mother. Praise GOD we got away from him!!!
@@ronaldshank7589 I'm sorry that happened to you and your family. It must've been a huge relief to get that weight off of your shoulders.
Hits hard when you grow up with a father similar to his. I remember watching this episode as a kid with a similar situation.
I really loved this character. Will was not blood-related to Uncle Phil. Nevertheless he cared so much about Will. That's why I loved their relationship. Love is not about blood.
Out of ALL of Uncle Phil's scenes that choke me up, the best of all is when Will is breaking down about his dad and Phil is there to help him thru it... the "How come he don't want me man" just kills me, that will forever be the best scene to me
This was a very emotional scene and prior to filming Will had gone to James and asked how to play it out. James told him to feel the energy in the room and he would know what to do. After they embraced the director yelled "Cut, we got it. Great shot." James kept holding Will and whispered to him "Now that's acting."
@@battlecross8540 There was some crying in the background. It was Karyn Parsons ,aka Hilary, who became overwhelmed with emotion
i grew up with amazing male figures, but watching Uncle Phil, was everything. James Avery was just perfection in the role. he was everything, uncle, father, mentor, ally, and occasional antagonist. he really was everything, that Will needed
7:39- "How come he don't want me, man?" God, that last line hurts.
That and also TO HELL WITH HIM is just as powerful
Philip Banks… James Avery mastered his role and was amazing!
Uncle Phil went all Shredder on the police officer 😂😂
Uncle Phil was a TV Dad to so many kids in the 90’s. It’s ironic that James Avery (Uncle Phil) never had children yet he became one of the greatest father figures 90’s children could ask for. He truly was Will’s Dad.
Rest in peace James Avery. ❤
aunt viv stepping to the cops is a full on mood 😂😂😂😂😂
She did that, because Phil is her honey 🍯 bun. 😊
Everyone knows what the last one was going to be, but it never stops the tears from coming.
Uncle Phil was the best on screen Dad, Will ever had
Can you imagine what the world would be like it we all had an Uncle Phil? ❤
Happiness all around! 😊
Uncle Phil, was the real American dad
That last one never fails to make me cry. I think it was one of the most powerful moments on TV. And when Uncle Phil laid down to law enforcement, woo hoo. That was a burn. RIP James Avery. From remembering you as Winslow on Beauty And The Beast and Uncle Phil on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. You're definitely not forgotten. 🙏🏻💖
We need more Uncle Phils in the world!
Real men who take care of the people around them not just financially but emotionally
R.I.P. James Avery
I love how it was basically in order until the best emotional experience in the series
The reason I loved this show so much is because of how Phil brought Will in and made him one of his own!
the last one hit me hard, as someone who grew up where my dad wasnt in my life. My dad was a bit of a better dad then wills. But not by much. He left me when I was 4, and I still see him but typically its just once or twice a year. if even, I mean my mom raised me. And I have a stepdad now. lol. ok, yeah im gonna stop the message now before i start thinking about it and get emotional.
Someone says you have to look at it as he wasn’t suppose to be in your life like that. Then you wouldn’t be the exact person you are today. You didn’t miss out on anything, he missed out on raising a beautiful child.
"Now that's acting!"
Last one hit the hardest. RIP Uncle Phil.
Uncle Phil was an awesome character. He was loving, friendly, supportive, and kind to those who needed him & warm-hearted.
that's the biggest load of bull I ever heard since I left the farm
Rest in peace uncle Phil for real
I am adopted that last clip hits hard.
Same, my foster family basically adopted me and my brother, it hits deep
Uncle Phil was a father to all of us
2024 and "How come he don't want me man?" Brings a tear to my eye...
"Why don't he want me?" kills my heart every time
That last part of the video about the dad situation is always sad to me. Uncle Phil was a good man, he was a good dad, and he was a good uncle for his family and on the show. I'm proud of him and I still love the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air show.
Growing up in the '80s & '90s, my childhood was very tough like so many others, I moved away from my dads house and lived with my Uncle Pat, who became the father figure I needed and helped me out all the way til he passed away, My Uncle Pat was Uncle Phil and I really miss him so much.
Dam! I love 😍 Phill in the Sheriff's Office scene. Where can I get a lawyer like that?! Where can I get a parent, a friend, like that?!
That scene at the 7 minute mark hit me hard as a kid. Because every thing Will rattled off I had to learn on my own and experience without my father. Fresh Prince, Family Matters and Saved by the Bell were great shows
“How come he don’t want me, man?” Gets my eyes watering every single time. This is one of the most heart-wrenching scenes of all time.
R.I.P. James Avery. You're a legend.
Everyone needs a father like Uncle Phil.
There's something about the way he throws the hat off Will that gets to me.
Uncle Phil just holding Will brings me to tears every damn time.
Skin like Mohagany.Go head smooth talker
Good god! Uncle Phil as smooth as butter! Make ever man look like an amateur when talking to a woman lol
Uncle Phil was the best! May he rest in Power!
My absolute favorite, uncle Phil episode was when Will’s dad showed up and left. uncle Phil was there for Will, as always, broke my heart, but made me love uncle Phil, even more. ❤
"How come he don't want me man!?" These words just really get to me when I think of my own father who left my mother and I when I was a child to move in with my Mom's sister and father five other half-sibling cousins. Although he died in 2000, I never really got any closure with him, and this scene hurts my heart to the core. Maybe if I had an Uncle Phil in my life, maybe things could have been different. Who knows. All I can do is be the best father that I can be to my daughter and son so that they don't have to go through this pain I'm still carrying years later.
Love Uncle Phil. Fave moment was when he called Will his son in the series finale. Rest peacefully, James Avery
Regardless of your race, gender, or anything else Uncle Phil was the kind of role model you wanted in your life and someone you wanted in your corner
Who knew Shredder was such a good dad/uncle?
At least he didn't kill Will Smith's dad and and gaslight him into thinking he's his real dad.
At least will doesn’t have turtles
@@VideoSuperMaster With Will’s dad, he probably should have.
Powe- 7:51 you can hear a lady in the audience choking up.. miss this show!
It was Karyn Parsons aka Hilary BTS who understandably couldn’t help it, as did the rest of us.
Hearing the studio audience cry in the background, real stuff
Uncle Phil was an absolute legend. This was absolutely one of the best shows of the 90s
The way Phil let Will get it all out when all the pain of his father abandoning him again and just being there was perfect. I was there once, my "Uncle Phil" was my best friend's dad. He's the man who taught me all those things father's teach sons.
Uncle Phil is the goat
James Avery was by far one of my all-time favorite actors. In the past when people used to ask me to list five people I would love to meet... James Avery was part of that list. We miss ya Uncle Phil.
Let's use this as the first thing first Rest in Peace uncle Phil button 🙏🏽
we used to have solid good role models on tv...i miss shows like this
er? what about Homelander, Ramsay Bolton and Bren Kinsella?
That how come he don't want me man?" Is still one of the most guy wrenching scenes in TV history.
Uncle Phil best character ever in a sitcom. James Avery may you rest in peace!!! You left a legacy!!!
First things first rest in peace Uncle Phil!
We all needed an Uncle Phil. The best bit from this is the smirk on his legal partner's face after he told the cops that Carlton and Will are the son and nephew... he knew what would happen. And the scene with Will and Uncle Phil regarding Will's Father
Imagine if he goes through the whole mirror description... then finishes with 'And you look pretty cute too :D'
As someone who’s seen this show a minimum of 30+ times, never fails to make an impact on me how much genuine heart James Avery put into every aspect of Philip Banks. A Great Man, one of the greatest.
Will needed Uncle Phil before went & slapped Chris Rock.
Agreed.
We don’t deserve Uncle Phil!🥺😭
So many wonderful memories, watching James Avery as Uncle Phil, such an amazing talent, all of us, need an Uncle Phil in our lives.
Will you are my son end of discussion that touch my heart ❤️
The last part was a real moment and thats when uncle Phil and Wil had that talk about family and became best friends in life.
James Avery set a high bar for this role.
"How come he don't want me man?" gets me every time
2:12
I would have laughed my ass off if he walked up to her and whispered in her ear.
"Well let me tell you *Walks up to her* I'm gay." 🤣🤣
“While he’s hugging me, he whispers in my ear, 'That’s f---ing acting right there,”
Will Smith on what James Avery whispered into his ear as he is hugging him in that last scene.
That last scene always breaks my heart. Will Smith said in an interview that when James Avery was hugging him, he whispered in his ear, 'Now that's fucking acting, son'
RIP Uncle Phil....a class act and never hesitated to stick up for his family . Not gonna lie...had me in tears.
That scene with Vivian in the mirror holy ❤
3:15 dude liked Will so much he helped Jada when she was in a bind.
That second scene with the police, only on TV. Knowing what we know today, Uncle Phil and the misses would be in body bags, and the newspapers would just repeat whatever lie the cops put out about it. The only thing that is realistic and probably saved them is their social class. So it actually leaves a bigger distate in the mouth when you ponder on it for a moment.
I assume it is because his white boss spoke first
Every young man needs an Uncle Phil in their life.
Fresh prince of Bel air reminds of me and my family I was brought up in the South of England and in 2008 I moved to The North of England 8 months after my mum died I moved in with my Aunt and Uncle My Mum's Sister.now everyone thinks they are my mum and dad but they are in a way.Everytime I. Watch Fresh prince It brings tears to my eyes
I'm not crying... *YOU'RE* *CRYING!!!!*
That last clip hits hard no matter how many times you watch
"You have no idea what my first memory of you is" That always hits.
Damn. Uncle Phil was a REAL man.
Cheers to anyone who grew up a 90s kid.
I love the episode when uncle Phil, Carlton and Will were laughing and Uncle Phil stands up and says" Do I Look Ilike A White Guy Named Ward !" That was classic.
