@@ItWILLbeWONDERFUL_THERE Sadly while many may try, they execute it wrong and fail by trying to protect their kids from EVERYTHING and stifle their development and individuality. They fail because they don't realise what succeeding as a parent is. Succeeding is having an 18 year old that has the confidence to say "NO" and knows when to draw firm lines, not be talked into things, and is responsible. They know there are times for fun but there are also times you have to step up to help someone because no one else, even their parents, are helping them. Some may see this line as endorsing helicopter parenting, but what it's about is teaching your children right from wrong, nd giving them confidence to go against their friends ideas if those ideas are wrong. It's not surrounding your child 24/7 to make sure he/she never has to make decisions, then turn them loose at 18 when they suddenly have to make all their decisions themselves. Many parents at my small school were VERY angry that our trained shop teacher (who was a fully qualified builder) from teaching 16 to 18 year old high school students from using power tools. His response was in possibly less than a year they will be buying one of these tools themselves, would you rather they learn how to use them in an environment with quality tools by a qualified and experienced instructor watching EVERYTHING they do, next to an emergency cut-off switch.... or would you rather they use a cheap tool and have to figure it out by themselves with a poor quality manual with no safety devices and no instructor? no he tought you to be responsible for your family. FAMILY. do NOT do this for single ladies whom abandoned their man for whatever reason. never ever raise another man's seed unless that child is family.
My Dad and I have different DNA. I don't know who my father is and neither does he... but he's been my Dad for 24 years and I've been his son for 34 years and he is closer to me by miles than any blood relative... and as he's 78 has made sure in his will I am treated the same as a biological son. He has ALWAYS been the person to ALWAYS help out when I had no one to turn to, and even at 78 we combine chores as we live just a minutes walk away from each other. Like, he does the shopping for us both (I reimburse of course) and I will cook for us both. We do each others hair cuts, if he needs to borrow my tools he can take what he wants.... if I need to borrow his washing machine so I can do twice as much washing that's cool. If my wife needs lifts to work and back and I can't do them, he does them, and if not he takes my dog for 15mile+ walk/runs. But if he needs some help with his computer/phone I will do my best sraight away. He was and always will be my father. I seek his counsel when in tough times, and he seeks mine on other matters. We have a bond stronger than DNA... it's mutual love and respect.
What I heard was that scene was different in the script and that Will improvised the whole thing on the spot and Mr. Avery (the professional that he is) just went with it
The original Aunt Viv (Janet Hubert) had a such a big problem with Will being a "bad actor" that she was removed from the show. I'm guessing #7 would make her think twice.
Same, I've experienced that when I was a child. For years I was hateful towards my father but I learned to move on years later, I still miss him but I don't think he remembers me and the rest of my siblings. 😔
I have two friends that I grew up with. Both have children one has a son one has a daughter. Those kids are 18 and 12 and I’ve never even met their fathers once. How could somebody do that to their own kid?
The bit where Will admits that the pills were from his locker is very brave to do it and I believe that was the only episode of Fresh Prince of Bel-air that ended without outtakes, normally this is a funny comedy show but sometimes they can get very serious about certain things.
Gets to show how much Will got to trust Uncle Phil. A lot of times kids hide things from their parents/family out of fear of what will come to them. For Will to confess that way it means that he truly cares for the Banks family and trusts that whatever consequence that comes to him from Uncle Phil will the be right way.
Notice how whenever he's talking to his kids and dressing them down he never points a finger at them, He stands tall and says what he has to say. "Uncle Phil" (Avery) helped raise allot of kids, Not just americans and not just blacks but kids of all races around the world.
No they don’t. 90s sitcoms like Fresh Prince, Boy Meets World, Saved by the Bell, Family Matters, Full House, Growing Pains, Married With Children, That 70s Show, The Golden Girls, Rosanne.... all of them. They balanced humor and drama very well and were never once afraid to tackle sensitive, serious topics. We had some of the best shows
Sure they do. Blackish, Fresh Off The Boat, The Goldbergs. I'm of the Fresh Prince generation and thought Happy Days was corny. Kids and young adults these days may think Fresh Prince is corny. As generation advance the new ones have a different taste. Also we are in the "on demand" generation. They don't gather as a family in front of one tv anymore. Everyone has their own screen. I believe this is what we miss more than the show. It's just hidden in our psyche.
Forgot one of the best ones: Uncle Phil: "Will, what you do for a living should provide you with a sense of pride and personal fulfillment. It should tap into that part of you that has something valuable to give to the world. Shouldn't be just about money."
"You hurt him and you could have hurt yourself!" For being an Anti-drug After School Special, that line still shows that Uncle Phil is just as concerned for Will as any of the other kids, Carlton just had priority because he's in a more serious condition.
Uncle Phil is also a good model for many people. Despite the difficulties and obstacles, he worked hard, never took shortcuts, and encouraged others to do the same. He’s an example of true black empowerment.
That moment when Uncle Phill took Will and Carlton out of jail made him look like a total badass. Not a single punch was thrown but you can feel how he ripped the officer a new one with words alone.
4:11 Still one of the most powerful scenes in TV history. Anyone that said that Will Smith couldn't act had to eat their words. Also, RIP uncle Phil, still one of the best TV Dads.
That scene with Will and his dad, first time I saw it I was alone and I cried, second time I saw it I was with my dad and HE cried, he told me “I watched Fresh Prince of Bel Air a lot when I was your age, and when your older sister was born, I swore I’d be a father like Uncle Phil, never like Lou, and if you ever need me for anything, please ask” My dad cried when he heard me say I wanted to be like him

I love with the drug talk that Phil's not angry in the way a parent would be a the person that hurt their son. He's angry at the older brother who got his brother drugged. He's still a parent in this moment, he's just as worried when he hears that Will had the drugs as he is angry.
Uncle Phil was the best fathers. His compassion and love he should his kids and even stepping in as Wills father and showing him the love and support he did with his own kids. RIP Uncle Phil ( James Avery) .
I cried like a baby when Will said "How come he don't want me, man" on that episode about his father. I get a feeling Will has never really dealt with the pain his real father caused his family.
The episode where his father walked out was one of the most powerful scenes ever, it was one of the best scenes ever from this show and I loved this shows to pieces I watched it every Tuesday in the UK
what i like about the first scene is that in the full version, Uncle Phil leaves the room after telling Will that he shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, only for Will to sit down at the piano and start playing classical music, which surprises Uncle Phil. i always thought that was really clever.

He replied “ you are my grandson and have been since you were 5 years old” that will never change and I love you end of story. In his will I was named a grandson not a step grandson. #7 hits me hard. His real emotion makes me cry. I feel the pain every day. The last time my father saw me, I was 3-6 months old in a stroller. He looked at me and said "it's not mine" and walked away. That's the beginning of the story that rarely had a glimpse of a positive light.
