When I was a kid, Welches grape jelly came in actual drinking glasses with the Flintstones printed on them. Once the jelly was gone, you had a usable glass
yes to this. either toast the bread and make the sandwich while the bread is warm or make the sandwich and throw it in the air fryer and toast it in there. the best ever.
Yeah... a bit weird that they have a selection of three types of peanut butter, but only the one jar of jelly. Where's the strawberry and raspberry jelly and jam selection? Really the only selection in peanut butter should be creamy or crunchy.
I recommend Smucker's Grape Jam. Jams are made with the juice and pulp while jelly is made with filtered juice. We pack PB&Jam sandwiches for outings to the park or when we go gem mining...but we mix the PB and Jam together (3T PB to 2T Jam) before adding it to the bread. It makes them less messy and it kind of does change the flavor because it is blended. We also, instead of Jam, we used Marshmallow Fluff or Honey or Apple Butter or Strawberry/Raspberry Jam.
I'm 62 years old and grew up in Southern California eating chunky Skippy peanut butter and Welch's grape jelly on soft white bread (Wonder was the best!). That sandwich was in my lunch bag, along with some BBQ flavored potato chips, pretty much every school day. It's still a favorite of mine, but I only have it a couple times a year. By the way -- jam is made from the whole fruit with sugar, pectin, and lemon juice or citric acid. Jelly is the same ingredients, but not the whole fruit, just the juice. I make and can (jar up for shelf stability) my own jams and jellies, except for grape. I don't have Concord grape vines and Concord grapes are not easily found in a grocery store.
For those outside of the US, the main difference between jam and jelly is that jelly doesn’t have any fruit bits in it at all. The fruit is strained out before finishing it into its gelatinous form. So it’s easier for picky eaters to eat, really. Kids here prefer jelly over jam because the texture is more pleasing. Also, I feel like the chocolate one doesn’t count as a normal peanut butter and jelly sandwich. If you’re eating a PB&J you just choose between creamy or crunchy peanut butter and that’s it. And it’s not just a kids food. We all love a PB&J every now and then.
There are 3 different textures: jelly, made from just the juice…jam, made from the whole fruit but well blended to be smooth though thicker than jelly…preserves, made with the whole fruit but not blended all the way and has some fruit chunks in it.
Peanut Butter and Honey! Mom made them for school. By the time lunch rolled around, your sandwich had sat in a heated locker and the honey would crystalize. Yum lol
When you’re really craving something crunchy and sweet, but you have to have a large glass of cold milk with it! Also, imo, Jiff is the best peanut butter. And there are so many types of jelly/jam flavors, dad might rather like something other than grape- ❤
In the USA we definitely grow up eating PB&J sandwiches as kids (at least we did before peanut allergies became so common, not sure if it's as big a staple today), but many of us continue to eat them as adults. I'm 53 and still enjoy a good PB&J and a glass of milk.
PB&J is a mixture of comfort, quick, inexpensive, filling, and tasty all in one. A full glass of cold whole milk to wash it down afterwards too. For me, it's always smooth natural peanut butter (contains just peanuts and salt) and strawberry preserves (contains lots of strawberry chunks).
PB&J is definitely a cheap quick, calorie dense, pretty shelf stable, staple food. All the different kinds of jams/jellies/preserves, and butters are ways to change it up for personal taste. Definitely a "comfort food."
@@whoavadis1984 Not true at all. Peanuts are a great source of fat, not protein. They have barely any protein compared to the amount of calories. If you want protein, there are a million better options. Aside from meat, try egg whites, zero fat yogurt, or even skim milk.
And if you're out of jelly/jam/preserves, or if you just want to be a bit adventurous, with a bit more healthy sweet taste, use honey instead of any of them. A peanut butter and honey sandwich is a great taste. Especially since honey is a healthier sweet taste than the jelly is.
I mostly agree with you, but as an adult, PB&J is less about the nostalgia and more when I'm just a bit hungry and too tired to prepare anything else. The only thing that might be easier is a bowl of cereal.
I remember having it at school with hot Cheetos probably why I eat chips with it. I prefer the peanut butter and jelly that comes mixed don’t like it as much when I put both separately.
Fun fact: There are differences between Jam, Jelly and Preserves in America. Jam is mostly mashed or crushed fruit mixed with sugar. Jelly is gelatinized fruit juice mixed with sugar and contains no fruit. Preserves contain larger (and sometimes whole) pieces of fruit mixed with sugar. Also, America has what are called Conserves which are Preserves with nuts in them.
The great Red Fox explained the difference between Jam and jelly. "That must be Jelly because Jam don't shake like that" 🤣🤣🤣 He was talking about something else, but it still works!
As an American Mom, I raised my children on PB&J just as my Mom raised me. The beauty of Peanut Butter is you can eat it with any Jelly, Jam, or preserves that you like. My favorites are Raspberry and Strawberry preserves... You can eat it on toast just by itself, on celery, or apples, have it with Nutella, and of course chocolate. People tend to believe that "Natural Peanut Butter is healthier but if you check the labels some have as much sugar as regular and it doesn't really matter if you buy Jif, Skippy, Peter Pan, Reese's, Smuckers, or store brand. I've bought them all and ate them all and there really isn't much of a difference in taste. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are not just for kids. I'm 63 and I still eat them every week as do my adult children. If something tastes as good as a PB&J don't let the kids have all the yummy stuff. hahaha, And they're perfectly served with an ice-cold glass of milk. There's no better combination.
Growing up in the 60’ & 70’s, peanut butter and jelly (jam is my preference,) it was a sandwich that you could keep in your lunchbox without refrigeration. Inexpensive, delicious and fresh. Yes just about every kid had PB&J sandwiches. I never heard of any of my friends having a peanut allergy. That would be horrific for us kids back then. 😮 I’m now retired and still enjoy a tasty PB&J at any time of day or night. Sometimes on toasted bread. Occasionally on wheat or toasted wheat bread. I always had a loaf of wheat bread and a jar of each, creamy Skippy & Welch’s Grape Jam at work. That was because my boss would bug me until I gave him the one I brought from home. He’d ask me to make him a triple decker. But he’d always pay for our lunch whenever we ordered out. He’d say, You fly, I buy.” Best boss ever.
Speaking of variations, I like PB on any bread. Warmed or toasted baguettes are my favorite. I prefer strawberry jam, but I've had marmalade or honey also. When I have to drive to my second job and I only have a short time to get there, I make a PB&J for the road, rather than take time to eat heated food with a fork. And last, I often will do PB&J on crackers instead of bread: A spoon of PB, a spoon of Jam and a bit of crackers while watching a movie.
Children don't have peanut allergies, they have GMO and corn syrup allergies. Nobody had "celiac disease" when we were growing up either. Corporate greed is killing us.
In the 90s, pediatricians told parents not to give their children anything with peanuts and introduce peanuts later in life. It has disastrous consequences. Our grandmother's knew best. They were still telling parents this in the early 2000s Now they make peanut puffy snacks for infants to help avoid this. Yes, the GMOs and all the rest is terrible as well.@@whoavadis1984
This is going to sound crazy as all hell, but trust me: Peanut butter and chilli. Either scoop a bit of peanut butter on your spoon before dipping it into the chilli or dip a peanut butter sandwich into the chilli. It blends well.
I like cheese on celery. I dislike Nutella, peanut butter and chocolate chips, never seen it! Try peanut butter on toast, the toast has to be still hot to melt the peanut butter.
You put the jelly on one piece of bread and the other with peanut butter. Milk is always what you drink with PB&J sandwiches, coffee maybe, but coke, really, damn!
My mom would always make homemade jams with whatever fruit was in season. You haven’t lived until you’ve had peanut butter and peach jam, or raspberry, or blueberry. Damn my childhood was good.
Same. I grew up on 5 acres with a bunch of fruit trees that when matured, produced 2 types of plums, apricot, peach & more. I hated when my parents sold the place, still dreaming of it 30 years later. The cost is too high to buy it back, but at least the memories are not for sale. Cheers.
American categories: Jelly - Gelatin and Pectin mix made with only the juices of the fruit/berry Jam - has more pulp in it, but generally no whole pieces of fruit/berry Preserves - much more fruit/berry pieces, can even have whole pieces of fruits/berries Marmalade - very similar to Jam, but Marmalade usually includes some type of citrus added into the blend
The absolute BEST way to enjoy a PB&J is to hard freeze it. On both sides of the bread put smooth HONEY peanut butter, then put jelly in the center and sort of enclose the jelly with the other slice of bread to seal it inside. Put it in a sandwich bag and into a deep freezer. A regular refrigerator freezer will not work properly, or it will take SEVERAL days to properly freeze. Once it's properly frozen, the peanut butter becomes solid, and the jelly inside is not quite frozen, but it's ice cold. The best bread for this is a good brioche, it holds up the best after frozen and is still pretty fluffy and tasty. If you've ever gotten "Uncrustables" and just ate them straight out of the freezer instead of thawing them, it's similar, but WAY better with honey peanut butter instead.
Back in the eighties we had a Spanish exchange student who became so obsessed with peanut butter that he bought two giant extra suitcases just to for peanut butter when he left. I didn't realize it at the time, being a kid, but I wonder if he realized he would most certainly have to pay a duty at spain customs for that much peanut butter.
Always ate it as a kid. Strawberry jam is a good switch up. I eat them now as a dessert when I can't find anything sweet in the house. Fantastic with a cold glass of milk
PB&J jelly/jam was a staple sandwich as a child. My mother put strawberry jam on mine. Peanuts are high in protein, fiber, and strawberry has vitamins found in Berries.
Grape jelly is definitely what we had most as kids, though I had apple jelly often, too. My kids have been raised eating strawberry preserves. My personal favorite is preserves with cherries, strawberries, raspberries, and redcurrants. It's great.
I grew up a product of depression era parents ,,,frugal , hardworking . Nothing went to waste, and every dollar stretched (5 kids) ..... One of my dads favorites was peanut butter and cheese (sharp cheddar preferred) . He'd balance it on a butter knife and "toast" it over the open flame on one of the burners on the kitchen stove .... He'd also sometimes have a PB & mayonaise . I never quite aquired the same taste for that one , but the PB & cheese (i think) is delicious ..... It's all about what you grew up with . FOOD for thought 😉
The fun of this classic sandwich is switching up the jelly/jam flavors. I'm now 60-years-old and recently found Boysenberry jam. It is sooo good, lol. Of course, the fluffer-nutter (marshmallow fluff) is always a treat as well.
Pro tip: spread butter on the bread before you put the peanut butter on- it helps cut the stickiness of the peanut butter! Back in the day, we didn’t have so many jam/jelly/preserve choices at the grocery store. Grape jelly was everywhere, and pretty cheap in big jars, so a popular option with families. As I got older, I began preferring other jams - like strawberry, apricot preserves, raspberry.
TASTY VARIATION: make a grilled peanut butter sandwich. 1. Preheat griddle to medium heat. 2. Make pb sandwich - note: when pb is heated, it melts and can be very messy, running out of the sandwich if spread thick on the sandwich. Add only a thin layer of pb and cook it really long - the pb can thicken and taste burnt, along with the bread. 3. Add butter to one side of sandwich bread. 4. Add butter side down of sandwich to griddle and add butter to topside while cooking. 5. Grill to golden brown on both sides. That chocolate chip flavor will also be awesome!
peanut butter and strawberry jam(of fluff or just peanut and honey) Always have peanut butter in the house (smooth and chunky both) put it on bread, cracker or celery.
I use strawberry preserves, I first put on the bread unsalted butter then Skippy peanut butter. I have it for a desert after a meal. Ice cold milk is necessary too. I'm 75 and still love it.
The concord grape jelly is a classic, but we use all kinds of jams, jellies and preserves to go with the peanut butter. Strawberry and raspberry are probably the second most popular. We also add peanut butter to tons of different snacks and desserts.
Jiff, butter top wheat bread, and Red raspberry preserve With seeds. - ice cold milk. Whole bread loaf - 2 full jars n half gallon milk. Lots of PB n coating of preserve - open face rocks.
PB&J is s classic American comfort food. Every kid grew up with it and our Moms made them for us. So we not only taste the sandwich but we taste the love too. We never outgrow it.
Years back, Welches used to make n sell grape jam/preserves with grape skins n it. Much heartier than just jelly. I also remember going to the Welches stand/kiosk next to the Dumbo the Elephant ride at Disneyland, just to get the PERFECT Welches popsicle. Wow, simple and easier das, eh?!
I am 76 and when in kindergarten we had to bring a snack. My mother always gave me an apple to bring and i would often trade with another girl for her peanut butter and jelly, yum! I like Skippy the best and another brand that you have to mix. I really liked the Skippy honey dipped , crunchy but they don't make it anymore. They only make Skippy creamy honey dipped. I love peanut butter plain or on celery or on buttered bread. I am type 2 diabetic so I rarely eat jelly or jam anymore, but I did make some raspberry jam, since they grow in my yard , and also plumb jams since they grow in my yard, and I get some sugarless jellies and jam.
I've had PB&J since I was a kid. I still love it. And in America there's a wide variety of flavors of jams and jellies. It's great to get like 10 different kinds and mix and match them. Honey also goes great with peanut butter. And always with milk.
My kids love the PB- banana with honey and the PB - strawberries preserves jelly on toast sandwiches. Also for Christmas we make peanut butter balls and PB on ritz crackers and dip in chocolate and white chocolate
Jam and jelly are both spreads made with fruits. Jam is made from crushed or ground fruit, while jelly is made from fruit juice. The biggest difference between jelly, jam, and preserves is how much of the original fruit is used to make them. BTW, jelly is also sold in the UK at several well-known markets.
At 75 I still enjoy a p&j and a glass of ice cold milk late at night. I have traveled and eaten all over the world on every continent. The one thing I have discovered is that countries that were and are under British rule, don't care for most of our everyday iconic foods. They are used to very bland tasteless meals in England Australia and New Zealand. These countries do not have noteworthy cuisine. It's simple very basic food. So any food with a strong flavor usually gets a thumbs down reaction. After all it doesn't go with a pint while sitting in a pub.
we usually use thinner style white bread in america with our pb&j's like prepackaged wonder bread, we dont usually eat it on thick bread. peanutbutter and banana sandwiches are also popular in the states as well. also the drink of choice for pb&j is infact a cold glass of milk!
Here in California, PB&J sandwiches are a childhood comfort food for me and perhaps for some others, nowadays, these sandwiches come in handy when we are low on cash and payday is just days away or it can be a quick on the go snack until we are able to eat a decent size meal. We always enjoyed these sandwich snacks with a tall cold glass of milk. YUM! We have had peanut butter and Jelly with Smucker's Strawberry Jelly, or Raspberry or Grape Jelly, either smooth or crunchy, whichever consistency you prefer is find, as for Jelly it was whatever was around for us and on sale when we were growing up, nowadays I get the Skippy creamy kind and any strawberry or Raspberry Jelly or jam, and if it is grape flavor it has to be the Welch's brand. When we would make them, it would be equal parts thickly spread of peanut on one side and same on the other side with Jelly or Jam or Preserves. Aidan, there is never too much jelly in a PB&J! Jelly is made with strained fruit juice. There are no pieces of fruit in jelly. Jam is made with mashed fruit. Preserves have whole fruit or large pieces of fruit. The less amount of ingredients the better. We haven't found one a jar with less ingredients for grape flavor locally in our stores yet.
The PB&J has protein, it's filling, and hits multiple food groups... but it's also versatile in the way it can be made up HOURS before eaten so moms would slap a PB&J together, throw it into a baggie put that in a sack or lunch box with a banana and boom, your kid has a meal for lunch at school.
Growing up in California (western USA), with a few years in Missouri (Central USA) I ate PB&J sandwiches several times a week for as long as I can remember. All of the adults in my life ate PB&J sandwiches frequently, but not near as often as the kids. Skippy Super Chunk was always my favorite peanut butter. Grape jelly was just okay, strawberry jam was okay. There are dozens of kinds of jelly (Made from juice only), Jam (made with mashed or pulverized fruit), and preserves (made with whole fruit, or chunks) available in the USA. A few examples are. Jelly: grape, apple, mint, pomegranate, jalapeno, and mixed fruit. Jam: Blueberry, plumb, peach, nectarine, apricot, raspberry, blackberry, cherry, and mixed fruit, and fig. Preserves come in every variety as jam. It's still called a peanut butter and jelly sandwich weather you use jam, preserves, or jelly. I'm 65 years old and still have PB&J sandwiches 2-3 times a week. I have always liked jam the best even when I was a child., then jelly, then preserves. The exception to this is my favorite of all is Pomegranate jelly, but that is more difficult to find. I used to make it, as well as other jellies, jams, and preserves, and can them in mason jars. I started making jelly, and jam when I was twelve years old. It's easy to make. Homemade is best. My family and friends used to give each other jars of homemade jelly and jams quite often when I was younger. I like every variety. There is a lot of variety in flavors with PB&J, too many to list. It's best with cold milk. It goes great any soda you like, or with tea or coffee, hot or iced. I use blueberry, plumb, or raspberry jam most of the time.
We make SMORES over the camp fire - children love em - Hersheys chocolate bar , marshmallows sandwhiched between Graham Crackers and held over fire with tongues for just a second or 2 until starts to melt - fun and delicious !
I live in Pennsylvania in the US and I grew up with PB&Js. I'm 63 and could still eat one every day! The best is peanut butter and marshmallow fluff! You need to try that.
Someone told me a while back that Jelly is made from the juices from the fruit (filtered) and Jam is made with ground or smashed fruit. That why jelly is clear and have no bits and pieces and jam has bits and pieces like seeds in it.
The peanut butter and chocolate chip is more of a treat spread on toast or by itself. Not usually mixed with Jam/jelly. It’s already sweet. Also that one is great to put on pancakes, funnel cake, dough boys etc.
Toast the bread and butter it. Add the peanut butter when it’s warm and the peanut butter melts, then add your banana. So yummy!! The jelly can go on toasted English muffins or try on a warm buttered scone. We use biscuits.
Welches also makes a concord grape jam. ..not to be confused with preserves which have whole chunks of fruit. That’s my personal favorite. It’s still smooth but more substantial than the jelly. Same flavor.
Of course as children we ate PB&J with grape jelly. As adults we choose our favorite jelly, jam or preserves. My hubby likes strawberry preserves, i love blackberry jam. PB can be smooth or chunky, any brand you prefer but not with chocolate in it. Just plain PB. The PB with stuff in it is not meant to be put with jam or jelly. Thats more for spreading on toast. We usually do creamy Skippy or Jiff. As an adult, i also butter both sides before applying the PB&J. White milk or chocolate is mandatory. Makes a great lunch when served with chicken noodle soup or just potato chips on the side. In fact putting a couple of potato chips in between the bread along with the PB&J adds a bit of salty crunch. Yummy!
For anyone outside the US, PB&J is a very common lunch sandwich for kids. It's easy to make in the morning to go in the lunch box. So we all grew up eating them as kids. As an adult I still have one now and then but it's mostly a nostalgic throwback to kid food
Smooth is best. Chunky tends to dry out after awhile. I like it on buttered toast. Sometimes the jelly separate on buttered toast. Just mix it up and have fun.
The great thing about PB&J sandwich is there is lots of jelly flavors, Apple, Strawberry, Plumb, and many more. Most fruits are turned into jelly. Also I find that Cheetos crisps go well with a PB&J sandwich as well.
For what it’s worth as I watched you make the sandwiches I thought you have too much jelly on them. For variety you should try a single slice of bread with peanut butter and finely chopped pickled hot peppers. Supposedly Elvis liked peanut butter and banana sandwiches. I have also tried a peanut butter with crunchy bread and butter pickle. But my favorite is peanut butter and raspberry jam on thinly sliced bread (yours is pretty thick).
Keep in mind its possible to vary your PB&J sandwhich repetiore according to which kind of peanut butter on what kind of jam or jelly you have on hand (grape 'jelly' my least favorite, try strawberry jam). Beer is an significant improvement on kool-aid to wash them down.
I grew up on a farm. In the early 1970s we got a big can of surplus Government peanut butter. I think it was crunchy? Anyway it was pretty generic and sticky. However, Grandma would put real butter and pear preserves on a sandwich and it was delicious. Also a cold cup of fresh raw milk from our cows. We were living high on the hog😅. We also made our own apple butter, and strawberry jam. Everything was canned. Going in our root cellar was incredible. The homemade sauerkraut, green beans, corn, squash, sweet and dill pickles, and relish, bushels of potatoes, turnips, radishes, beets, even gooseberry jam. Peppers of all kinds.
I noticed when in Scotland there was mainly and only natural peanut butter with the peanut oil in it and you had to stir it every time you used it. It was great!! Also had friends that one son had a peanut allergy so we kept away from any nuts while sharing meals. I always spread butter on the bread first as well as the peanut butter and jelly. I'm partial to a berry jam or preserve on my PB&J, not so much grape Side note:. Also, introduced friends to stove top popped popcorn. From what I was told, the only popcorn there was microwave. Friends purchased 'gourmet' popcorn and we had an evening where we popped popcorn on the stove. Buttered and salted. They ALL LOVED IT!! They exclaimed, "It's brilliant!" Such fun that night........ :)
My Mom used to slather peanut butter blended with honey on half the bread and grape/apple jelly and half on another slice and use Apple Butter on the other half. Take the two slices and offset the halves so one quarter is touching as you put the slices together for the summer supreme pb&j. Jam or Jelly? I'm good with both. I don't discriminate.😁
Hey from Edmonton Alberta Canada. This 69 year old guy still keeps Welch's Concord Grape Jelly in my fridge & a 2kg jar of Smooth P.B. in my cupboard. Another lifetime favorite is P.B. & Banana & P.B.& Honey, P.B.& Stawberry jam. P.B. & Sliced cucumber, peeled or not. I always spread plenty of butter or margarine on both pieces of the softest bread possible. Now off to the kitchen I must go. P.S., COLD MILK is a MUST for me!
We drink milk with it... and we use sandwich bread that's thinner, the standard PB and J is just grape jelly and smooth PB.. the amount used is usually less than what you used ❤
I put peanut butter on both slices of bread then put some jelly on each slice but not too much. Then combine both and slice. Always with a cold glass of milk.
PB&J extra chunky with grape jelly or any flavor jelly or jam... chocolate milk or yoohoo drink is stick to your ribs food... especially if you have no refrigeration... PB&J are perfect for camping food because they can be kept at room temperature and has alot of energy density. I always think if I could only take one sandwich with my on a long hike... def PB&J.
NOW TRY IT with "SMUCKERS STRAWBERRY JAM". Top shelf, off the charts good. Put it on a medium toasted bread, smearing lightly with the peanut butter, and heavier with the jam. A BREAKFAST SIDE DISH ICON HERE !!!
I’m 65 years old and still love a PB&J with a big glass of cold milk.
Me too - I’m almost 79 - God willing!!!
I agree! I had a sandwich for lunch yesterday. I’m 67 ! 😋

PB&J is an American Classic, plus the fact that any child can make it. I like mine with strawberry preserves on a toasted brioche. 😊
Is *that* where those glasses came from during my childhood!? I know *exactly* what you're referring to, but didn't realize they were jelly jars.
Gaynor did a great job spreading the PB&J for those sandwiches, and you definitely need a glass of cold milk with it!
Your not kidding. I'm anal with my ingredients. You should get everything in every bite.
Oh yeeeah. The milk does it for sure. Lightly toasted bread too.
Peanut butter on both sides so the bread doesn’t get soggy

one secret to a good peanut butter sandwich is to toast the bread and apply the peanut butter while the bread is still hot.
yes to this. either toast the bread and make the sandwich while the bread is warm or make the sandwich and throw it in the air fryer and toast it in there. the best ever.
Same!
I toast my sandwich in the toaster over, comes out so good :)
I grew up eating these sandwiches and I am 75 and I still eat them. Love them.
I am 68 years old and watching you all making the PBJ sandwich made me go out to the kitchen and make one, been eating them all my life.
It just done the same thing to me I am now in the kitchen making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.😂
Same here. I'm 78 and I'm on my way to the kitchen to make a PB with Strawberry Jam.
Yes!! Strawberry jam with PB is my favorite, although I don’t turn down grape or honey or even blackberry.
@@amyg4961I use Adams Chunky. Had some Current Jelly lately and some Peach also. Both good too.
Me too 😂
"it doesn't have strawberries because it's grape" 😂
🔥
Yeah... a bit weird that they have a selection of three types of peanut butter, but only the one jar of jelly. Where's the strawberry and raspberry jelly and jam selection? Really the only selection in peanut butter should be creamy or crunchy.
I prefer strawberry jelly
To much jelly
😂😅😊
"Too much jelly" said no American ever 😁
Yeah they said that and I said "no such thing".
💯
A bit of a blasphemous thing to say, actually 😆
“Let’s cut it into three pieces!” -no American ever. 😂
I’m the opposite. I like 75% peanut butter to 25% jelly.
Nice tall glass of cold milk is perfect
Gotta have milk everytime with my PBJ, plus you get the extra protein.
only if it’s vegan milk of course (: otherwise it’s the opposite
@@Cassxowary whatever kind of milk that makes you happy.

As an adult, I now toast the bread, yum.
Depends on where you grew up. In my area, PRESERVES had fruit pulp, while both jam and jellies did not.
100% agree with everything you said.
There are 3 different textures:
jelly, made from just the juice…jam, made from the whole fruit but well blended to be smooth though thicker than jelly…preserves, made with the whole fruit but not blended all the way and has some fruit chunks in it.
Peanut butter is also good on top of waffles, especially with a little maple syrup. Yum.

Toast the bread, then spread on super chunky peanut butter, then cold jelly straight from the fridge. Heaven
That sounds so good I think I'll go have one right now, With a glass of milk.
😋
Agree 100 %
If they offer strawberry jam in seedless, I’d say try it, but i don’t think they do. They sell them seedless in preserves tho
Yes! and it not actually unhealthy as a once in awhile treat.
Same. I feel it in my liver or stomach area when I've had too much sugar; hard to describe. Cheers.
PB&J is definitely a cheap quick, calorie dense, pretty shelf stable, staple food. All the different kinds of jams/jellies/preserves, and butters are ways to change it up for personal taste. Definitely a "comfort food."
Not only that but peanuts are one of the best sources of protein outside of a steak lol.
@@whoavadis1984 Not true at all. Peanuts are a great source of fat, not protein. They have barely any protein compared to the amount of calories.
If you want protein, there are a million better options. Aside from meat, try egg whites, zero fat yogurt, or even skim milk.
@@rpg_haven both peanuts and ribeye have about 7 grams of protein per ounce, you need to do a Google search before you answer, at least.
And if you're out of jelly/jam/preserves, or if you just want to be a bit adventurous, with a bit more healthy sweet taste, use honey instead of any of them. A peanut butter and honey sandwich is a great taste. Especially since honey is a healthier sweet taste than the jelly is.
I think kids are more obsessed with PB&J than adults but for adults it’s a nostalgic throw back to childhood.
I mostly agree with you, but as an adult, PB&J is less about the nostalgia and more when I'm just a bit hungry and too tired to prepare anything else. The only thing that might be easier is a bowl of cereal.
If you are doing a bowl, just break out the ice cream!
I remember having it at school with hot Cheetos probably why I eat chips with it. I prefer the peanut butter and jelly that comes mixed don’t like it as much when I put both separately.
Speak for yourself 😉 I love me some PBJ
British here, born and raised. Grew up on peanut butter and jelly.
So, I'm on my way to the kitchen to make a peanut butter and banana sandwich! Love em!
The great Red Fox explained the difference between Jam and jelly. "That must be Jelly because Jam don't shake like that" 🤣🤣🤣 He was talking about something else, but it still works!
I like how Daz said the regular one tasted bad because it somehow tasted like a snickers bar sandwich then liked the chocolate one lol
I usually have peanut butter and jam because the jam spreads a lot easier and it doesn’t really fall out as you’re eating the sandwich
A thumbnail of a video about trying a pb&j with someone looking like they witnessed a murder is unbelievably hilarious
I thought that too, why has he put me looking shocked 😂
Oh yes! Toasted bread. It’s a very versatile sandwich.
I grew up in the 50s, Peanut butter was always a mainstay. I liked ham sandwiches, never liked bologna sandwiches.
"What's the difference between jelly and jam?"
Who else was waiting for it? 😂😂😂
literally just thinking hahaha!!
Jam has bits of fruit and jelly is the strain juice made into jelly
@@hollygray9014 nope that's not it 😂😂 but I admire your innocence
Jelly is made by angels and Jam by demons.
I can't jelly my...😂😂😂
The PB with chocolate in it would be best on toast without jelly... And PBJ should always be eaten with a tall glass of cold milk. Yum!!!
This is going to sound crazy as all hell,
but trust me:
Peanut butter and chilli.
Either scoop a bit of peanut butter on your spoon before dipping it into the chilli or dip a peanut butter sandwich into the chilli.
It blends well.
Yes, I don't want chili without a peanut butter sandwich.
Aiden, love your Bengals hoodie! I love my PB&J's on toasted bread. The peanut butter melts from the warm bread, wonderful!
A nice snack is dipping fresh apple slices in peanut butter. Also, sometimes in celery sticks
I love Homemade jams & jellies! My mom made a sunflower jelly which was super mild & didn't go super well but was fun to try!
Same. I grew up on 5 acres with a bunch of fruit trees that when matured, produced 2 types of plums, apricot, peach & more. I hated when my parents sold the place, still dreaming of it 30 years later. The cost is too high to buy it back, but at least the memories are not for sale. Cheers.
American categories:
Jelly - Gelatin and Pectin mix made with only the juices of the fruit/berry
Jam - has more pulp in it, but generally no whole pieces of fruit/berry
Preserves - much more fruit/berry pieces, can even have whole pieces of fruits/berries
Marmalade - very similar to Jam, but Marmalade usually includes some type of citrus added into the blend
Sandwich is probably the most common use for peanut butter, but there are others. Apples, celery (with raisins), with chocolate ice cream... Etc.
Ahhh, yes. The ol' "Ants on a Log!!" Excellent snack with a needed jolt of protein.
Apples are a big no for me, celery gets cheese, cucumber, really, my mother put lettuce on peanut butter sandwiches, yes it was weird.
When you asked, “what’s the difference between jelly and jam?”, I laughed. It’s actually the set up to a real filthy joke.
Peanut butter, sliced bananas, honey, and crushed walnuts 😊.
That’s more like it 👍
I like just pbutter and banana.
I think we're going to be friends
Or pecans
now I have to try the crushed walnuts!
I love to have it for breakfast, toasted with peanut butter, sliced banana and honey. Yummy!!!
It's easy to get kind of addicted to peanut butter, and jelly. I'm 65 and still have it 2-3 times a week.
I’m going to try Reese’s Peanut Butter with sliced Banana and Marmite on toasted white bread. Oooh my mouth is watering just thinking about it !
What took you so long to find Boysenberry jam.
I know, right? lol @@garycamara9955
No butter for me on my pb&j. Now, on hot toast- butter and peanut butter melted, yum
My dad made much better pb&j sandwiches than my mom ever did.
100%. Milk is the best drink to pair with it, but you could do whatever.
My adult son still takes pb& j to work for lunches😊
At 75 I still enjoy a p&j and a glass of ice cold milk late at night.
I have traveled and eaten all over the world on every continent. The one thing I have discovered is that countries that were and are under British rule, don't care for most of our everyday iconic foods. They are used to very bland tasteless meals in England Australia and New Zealand. These countries do not have noteworthy cuisine.
It's simple very basic food. So any food with a strong flavor usually gets a thumbs down
reaction.
My husband grew up on peanut butter and maple syrup, mixed in a bowl and then spread. I love peanut butter and honey mixed and then spread.
Welches also makes a concord grape jam. ..not to be confused with preserves which have whole chunks of fruit. That’s my personal favorite. It’s still smooth but more substantial than the jelly. Same flavor.
😂 another surprising combination is Peanut butter and pickle sandwich.😂👍dill pickles.😂
I like mixing the peanut butter and jelly together thoroughly before spreading. Roughly half and half.
I'm going on 47 years old, and I still love pbj sandwiches with ice milk. It's been one of my favorite snacks since childhood.
Smooth is best. Chunky tends to dry out after awhile. I like it on buttered toast. Sometimes the jelly separate on buttered toast. Just mix it up and have fun.
At our house we put the peanut butter in both pieces of bread with the jelly in between! Toast with just peanut butter is good too!
Makes a great quick snack when your hungry but don't want to cook a big meal. Fast filling ang yes a little nostalgic from my childhood 😊
We always put butter on the slice of bread with the jelly. I guess it helped keep the peanut butter from sticking in your craw when swallowing.
"Let's get some more chocolate chips in that one"......she's a keeper!! ❤👏👏👏
Cold glass of milk is must. When we were in elementary school we would have Laye’s potato chips with it. Crunchy or smooth. Yes old school memories.
Trying peanut butter and jelly is an adult is definitely different growing up with them. Love them.
