Love this circuit. Drivers love it too I reckon. Portimao gave us an entertaining Q3 session. From Bottas to Hamilton to Bottas again and then Hamilton on pole. Should be a permanent circuit
@@alisajadmohammadi749 Portugal does not have the money to host the GP permanently, it was already a huge effort to get the GP here this year and they had to pave the track. Portimão is also hosting the last MotoGP race this year. I reckon we won't see Portugal on the F1 calendar again for a while... hopefully I'm wrong
Round 4 on the 2021 F1 calendar is yet to be announced. I'm hoping against hope it goes to Portugal.

Bottas was faster. Look at his time in Q2. He made a small mistake in his fast lap in Q3.
@@bearingef Hamilton also had a snap early in his best lap. Hardly anyone had perfect laps. Tricky track. Bottas’ own words post-race was that he was happy with his lap generally.
And bottas made two mistakes: he caught some gravel and had a snap 🙄
He wasn't Toying. Barely got it. Lost it last race.

The track's "lack of grip" that the drivers complained about is clearly visible in this onboard...
Clearly the most unstable pole lap of 2020, because of the constant oversteers and stuff... but then that's why Portimao is such a great track lol
Low grip is not really a character of the circuit normally, it was resurfaced at the end of August and Pirelli played it safe and brought in their hardest compounds.

Because it is new tarmac, It is probably not prepped with layers and layers of rubber from previous races. It looks like a pretty technical circuit with decent overtaking opportunities.

It was the fastest tire to be on as the softs weren’t getting up to temperature
@@declanthomas1996 that doesnt make sense, mediums would have a harder time to get up to temperature than softs...
@@jaggu2703 You could push the mediums harder than the softs, as the softs were graining too much. Also the softs have a very narrow operating temperature window compared to mediums.
Me, an American: slept through quali but recorded only for it to be delayed and my recording cut off with 19 seconds left

Just like the great Schumacher, when he was being paced by a team mate he used to try the double run, he did it several times time take pole right at the end. Legendary Champions like Michael and Lewis find a way!

He has had the world record number of pole positions for quite a while now. He took his 69th pole in the Italian GP in 2017 over three years ago which was the new record. Since then he's just extending the record.
Also when he took the pole at the Mexico City track in 2016 he took the record of poles at 24 different tracks. Since then he's just extending the record. You're too late or don't understand that you can't beat your OWN record, it has to be somebody else's.
When/if Hamilton wins his 8th world title (the 7th title seems pretty secure this season) then he has a "world record".

Therefore 97th Pole Position and Pole in the 29th Different Track are both NEW WORLD RECORD.

Doubt it. The gap between ham and bot is pretty small in quali so bottas will take pole. If verstappen can't lewis wont be able to either. And also it's a very different car and we don't know how he'll handle that, after being in a merc that's glued to the track on some circuits

I'm starting to wonder if hamilton is so naturally talented he focuses his set-up towards the race and expects his talent to make up for the deficit in qualifying?
Also I do think he's one of the hardest working drivers (Hope Bottas keeps him under pressure because he focuses on f1 more)
At the very least he seems to run high fuel in FP1.
There might be an element of this. Schumacher did this.
There's what we call, hard work. He works hard. Talent alone isn't enough in anything.
"He is the most naturally talented driver" - Someone who has been watching F1 since 1994.
He was never known to be a hard worker, not even close. I am sure he worked hard pre F1. He has a ton of talent and a water boy that probably does all the hard work.

The track surface must be terrible. Plenty of spins this weekend plus an unusually messy looking pole with erratic sawing at the wheel instead of Lewis’s smooth driving style. Setting the cars up must have been a nightmare.
