I think that is medium pips with sponge...I used to play in similar style...from medium pips with sponge we can drag and generate little to intermediate level of spin while attacking....in other aspect..while blocking, Higher the trajectory of block, lesser the reverse spin... Lower and faster the trajectory of the block...greater the reverse spin generated...that is why it becomes confusing..and it gives advantage as u can drag a bit for attacking and can switch on to defensive block at the same time which provides more versatility in comparison to long pips without sponge ...that can only be used primarily for defence I may be wrong though
