IGN Has a “7” Problem…

- IGN has a serious 7/10 problem. It feels like the outlet hands out 7s as if they were free party favors, leaving me wondering if they're even playing the games they're reviewing. Obviously, yeah, I'm sure they have the code and turn the games on... but what actually goes INTO the score, because if anything, it doesn't feel like its the game itself...
Full Story: www.smashjt.co...
7 is IGN's collective IQ.
🤣
Lmaoooo , Good one !
No wonder. 😂
IGN's 7 problem has been going on for 10 years. I already noticed it in 2014.
@@successanimation But things are ugly when it came to 2023 then 2024
IGN have 7 problems.
1) Gamers Hate them.
2) They're bias on games we like.
3) They hate Fun games.
4) Big Fans of DEI and Censorship.
5) They don't play games.
6) They hate Beautiful Woman.
7) They're IGNorants as F!
So that is what 'IGN' stands for. 😂🎉
Lucky 7 as they say
@@oliverencarnacion698 That sounds about right
I prefer this version;
1) DEI and ESG supporters.
2) Unhappy with games that do not showcase 'The Message.'
3) Mediocre games get dazzling reviews.
4) Biased against any game or developer that do not adhere to Leftie nonsense.
5) Actively despise majority of players.
6) Supporters of ugly and 'inclusive' design.
7) Stupid hypocrites who have no integrity.
Now take the first letter of each line, and it encapsulates IGN.
*biased
"Bias" is a noun, "biased" is an adjective
"If you haven't tried meth, how do you know it's bad?" - ign 7/10
Rather try meth instead of playing Outlaws or Dustborn, at least with the burst of energy my house and yard will look awesome or I end up with a bunch of catalytic converters to "recycle".
Hanging around in the Crystal Palace with Tweakers is better than Dustborn. 🐿️
IGN is a 0/10 would never recommend ever. I never trusted them
💯🗿
The joke with IGN when I was growing up was "Literally unplayable. 7/10" -IGN
This is so funny
Yeah IGN is absolutely playing safe with 7/10, they don't want make their DEI overlords mad and they also don't want to make gamers mad by giving good games a 6 or a 5 like Stellar Blade. Is so obvious and lazy when every game is a 7/10, IGN doesn't want to do their job.
You can't spell ignorant without IGN
Powerful people are behind it. It's political and involves money. It's no different from laws being made by powerful people giving politicians money to your detriment. As the Method Man from the Wu-Tang said, "Cash rules everything around me, cream get the money, dolla dolla bill y'all."
If they're now starting to do this, then that's a sign that's saying there's people in business being lazy, using AI, layoffs, no payment for employees, downsizing, cash grabs. Not looking good for American businesses now.
They stopped doing their job a damn long time ago. They are basically a mouthpiece for the woke mob.
It's bad that they are heavily biased, what's even worse is that they are absolute cowards who cannot admit nor commit to their own bias and agenda. What a full of pseud centrist bullshit
Yeah, IGN has 99 problems, but a 7 isn't one of them.
Always remember Dave Perry (a '90s gaming magazine editor) who said he would instantly fire any of his staff if they gave a game 7 out of 10, as it's such a pathetic non-offensive score.
It's literally that meme of the guy from Chernobyl "Not Good, Not Bad".
I wonder how he would have taken IGN giving Imagine Party Babyz a 7.5, as it’s ostensively shovelware
It's "not great, not terrible"
Calling Dustborn a point and click adventure is an insult to games like Broken Sword and Monkey Island.
This is what a real SCUMM engine looks like
Oh believe me after those words came out of my mouth I was thinking the same lol
:( you forgot the Myst series...
@@Spartan1312 i loved the sequel to myst, don't remember the name, was my first point n click and playstation and i loved it

They gave Space Marine 2 a lower score than Star Wars Outlaws
Edit: correction, IGN gave Outlaws a 7 and Space Marine an 8, however PC gamer gave a score of 73 for Star Wars Outlaws and Space Marine 2 a 60 which is ludicrous.
Can they save ubi bankruptcy? Yeah, mostly not 😂
Bias at its finest
Yet they have over 275,000 concurrent players. The score makes no sense.
ThE bLaStEr FiGhTs FeLt LiKe ThEy HaD mEaNiNgFuL sTaKeS
there is no logic to it, the only thing it does worse than outlaws is that it has less content.
Also the argument that its a different person makes no sense since not only there is a pattern but you cant make an argument why its a bad warhammer game because its not, its one of the best and if you were to compare it to other games in the market its clearly better. So its clearly political.
And this is why we can't trust them, we shouldn't have to ask so many questions about a score, the number should be able to speak for itself but with them its like "ok is this a game that is actually great that they don't like the ideology of? Is it something that's terrible that they are shilling for and can't go any lower? Is it actually dogshit that they just like the ideology of?" A single number should not be able to cover that entire range.
“To much water”
*IGN complaining about water in a Pokémon game set on a bunch of islands*
Also complains about a remake of a Fire Emblem game lacking an element that the original *didn’t* have, dating sim - pair up. Just because the reviewer *couldn’t* pair the main heroine up with a recruited side character, it got a lower score.

Complained about a warhammer game having no humour
That review became so infamous that it actually became a meme and it was referenced word for word as one of the possible comments within the Poké Finder feature in the Gen 7 games.
To them a 7 is just their way of saying it's neither good or bad in hope of getting free copies of more games
They have more "7"s. Than Concord Players
Dustborn and Concord combined wouldn't even make a 7/10, IGN is delusional.
If Dustbin is a 7, 7 means nothing
I would rather lick an actual dustbin.
And they gave Alien Isolation, one of the best games of it's genre, a 5.9. And that was 10 years ago. Never took them seriosuly after that😂
And that had actual historic significance. There was something happening behind the curtains with that low score. No one was able to properly explain this concerted attack on that game, it was IGN and a few others. This actually led to the game failing to profit.
7 is the lowest score that IGN can give to ensure the developers get their Metacritic score bonus from the Publishers. Before Metacritic, it was 77% - as revealed in the last issue of a European magazine back in the 90's as they went scorched-Earth on the gaming industry.
I'm so close to starting a review site that won't use a numbering system, rather using something like "great", "good", "it's alright", "bad" and "steaming turd", have no ads, and calling out titles that push any form of agenda driven nonsense. Hmmm...
There is a Christian review site that does that and is pretty good
Do it
An x/5 review system would work since that is basically what we have already. 1 is absolutely unplayable, 2 is pretty bad to below average and generally not worth your time, 3 is average, generally worth at least a look depending on your specific taste. 4 is fairly great and definitely worth most peoples time and money. 5 is an excellent, cant miss experience that everyone should endeavor to support and try out.
i don't even mind a numbering system in theory IF they have a clear criteria that must be followed in order to try make it as objective as possible. the problem is these exist, but a lot of reviewers completely ignore them and just throw numbers at games with seemingly no rhyme or reason.
Using words that are ranked wouldn't be any different than using numbers.
There are reviewers who refuse to use numbers or rankings of any kind, but I find that a bit pretentious as well, as if an opinion is so complicated it can't be boiled down.
Yeah I have also noticed that, they always give a 7/10 even if the game is bad mediocre.
They've been doing it for years, since the mid 2000s, when the trend of blockbuster games started.
That's what we call "Being a coward". Those publications have 0 integrity.
Lest we forget the "7.8/10 Too Much Water".
Or how reviewer complained that there wasn’t a dating sim element in a Fire Emblem game that was kind of faithful to the original, a feature lacking in the said original. Just because the reviewer couldn’t pair the main heroine up with a certain character, it counted as a con, and gave the game a lower score.
@@IDESTROYER236 That review became so infamous that it actually became a meme and it was referenced word for word as one of the possible comments within the Poké Finder feature in the Gen 7 games.
IGN Gave Concord, Dustborn, and SW Outlaws a 7, and they gave The First Descendant a 5.....
And First Decendant has more active and peak players than all three games combined.
7/10 is an old meme already, ign was like that forever
No shit! A 7 being considered "average" is a stain on the gaming industry. Surely a score of 5 is the average?
5 means it exploded their console and burned down half the office building.
@@autobotstarscream765 A score of 1 means it's a cabbage.
Alanah Pearce would disagree with us pushing back on the 7/10 for bad games like concord and outlaws saying “It’s just some f*cking guy’s opinion”

The professional snowflake and clean up crew for the mainstream industry.
that art she got caught plagiarizing was a 7/10 😂
IGN is actually the example of "Access Journalism"
"We didn't really play it, don't want to sway the rating very much, or piss off advertisers... so 7."

IGN has a "7" problem.
Just like Rotten Tomatoes has a "87%" problem.
This just proves that they no longer review games.
Did you miss the Filip Miucin controversy from years ago? Where have you been all this time? 😂
They've now started giving every new Sonic game a 7 out of 10 after the accidental controversy they stirred up.
Gaming journalism needs a hard reset
It's like rating yourself as a 7 out of 10 in terms of attractiveness.
Kevin Samuels says 1 through 10 can't use 7. This logic ironically works and would be well applicable in this scenario as well.

IGN has decided that access and fence sitting is more important than professional ethics, just like most legacy media.
They just want to receive early access and goodiebags 😂
Speaking of conflict of interest, IGN has the exclusive marketing rights to that DEI infested game, Dragon Age Veilguard, so expect that game to get a 9 or even a 10 when that releases
A 7 of IGN is equivalent to a Sweet Baby Inc. seal of approval: They are both used for D.O.A. D.E.I. games. So, yeah, that's why we don't believe in these "journos"...

IGN gave this video a 7
Asmongold put it well; the purpose of a review is to give an opinion for any prospective customers looking for a potential purchase. But if the ratio of critic review scores doesn't tally with the general review scores of the consumers, then by the very nature of a review it's the critics who are wrong.
IGN is BIASED!!
I went to a gamestop yesterday, and the lady who was at the front desk asked someone if they were excited for Dustborn. I immediately wanted to leave.
Wow! So either that was an activist pretending to be a gamer, or else their higher ups are pushing DEI games.
Did she cry when the customer inevitably asked for Black Myth: Wukong instead? 🐒
Little Kitty Big City is fun tho...
Agreed. But games like Concord, Dustborne and Outlaws also got it. And I am fairly certain little kitty big city is a LOT better then those
Which is why Dustbin, Scofflaws, and Costa Concordia don't deserve to have the same score. 😾
7 is the number cowards give. It does not offend most people...
I want a Jersey that says, "IGN" with the number 7
Nice that jersey would sell! Lol
IGN only knows the number 7 while Valve can't count higher than 2.
If you flip the 7 upside down , it becomes an L. They seem to take a lot of L’s lately. As Ace Ventura used to say “Leeeee Hoooos Ssssseeeee Heerrrrrr “
7/10 is their political go to score, when they either want to hate on a game, but it's too well received to rate it lower, or they want to uplift a bad game out of personal interests, without making it too obvious lol
IGN, this isn't a casino.
A dog took a crap in my neighbor's yard. IGN gave it 7/10!
I give IGN a 10 for presstitution
This is keeping goodwill for early access and appearing neutral with gamers. 7 is a middle ground between both parties.
That's true for Ubisoft and EA games. But with small indie devs like whoever made Dustborn, it's an alliance much larger, with anyone who supports their politics.
4:32 well this actually used to be the case when reviewers actually knew what they talked about werent full of shit or trying to shove dei up my throat but that was A LOOONG time ago

LMFAO ty!
I have to wonder if IGN don't even want to waste too much of their time and just give games a certain score. We know better. We're not idiots. We just don't want to deal with people like them.
7 is more than just a perfect and holy number but yet, IGN killed it by downgrading it to 6 or 2
Little Kitty is a 11/10 😤
How IGN dare to compare a master piece, with trashy propaganda 😾
Conbox, Outbox, and Dustbox: Catbox/10, too much shit. 😼
IGN is Very Biased!
If everyone's experience is subjective, then what is the point of a review in the first place? The point is you find someone you agree with who has time in their day to play the game and let you know if they think it's worth the money. If everyone has a completely different experience, then what would be the point of asking someone else how they enjoyed it?
If they give a 7 to everything, then their opinion doesn't mean anything.
They dont review the games or play them, they just say "give it a 7" and steal video from other reviewers.
The statement that video game reviews are subjective and no two reviewers will have the same opinions reinforces the idea that everything getting a seven is nonsense.
Mediocritizing the great is pretty bad, but mediocritizing the bad has horrifying repercussions.
IGN 7/10 is lazy scoring. Doesn't want to rate something bad lower or doesn't want to rate something higher despite being good that they don't like, so they stick to their "middle ground" 7s.
Remember when 5 was the middle ground? Now it means the game made the console explode and burned down half the IGN offices. 🔥
@smashjt This is precisely why legacy media has relegated themselves into relative obscurity...
Social media, content creation, etc. has allowed unprecedented access to significantly more information than ever before.
Legacy media's dereliction of duty with respect to fidelity of the accuracy and non biased approach to dissemination of information has prompted many people to seek answers elsewhere.
IGN (love the ignorance pun lol) is no exception here.
Keep up the good work and calling out this fraudulent behavior!
💯 and thank you!!!
7 is a lucky number.... they disrespect the symbolism of 7. Should be 4 or 13 instead of 7 since those number has bad meaning, 4 is death and 13 is unlucky
Valve cannot count to 3.
IGN cannot count any other number than 7.
I worked in a business where we reviewed plans. We had a list of criteria, and a scale from 1 to 10 for each criteria. In order to really differentiate between plans, important factors were weighted ie multiplied. Those were the factors deemed critical. Also you had to use 1 and 10 and that really helped set the plans apart. Most people tend to use numbers between 4 and 8. Forcing the use of the whole scale is important. So you don't end up with final scores that are all so close that it defeats the purpose of scoring them. Like ending up with 7 for all of them. Nobody can tell me that, for example, Stellar Blade and Outlaw both score a 7 on the character art.
This video is a 7/10 something for everyone but to much water
forget the first 13 minutes video, IGN should upload their full gameplay on youtube
Think you’ve misunderstood Asmon’s take. He didn’t call you out or say that what you were speculating on was wrong. He just pointed out that the post you used is not credible evidence as proof that it is being done.
Remember Filip Miucin anyone?
They never really reviewed any games, come on now.
Pretty sure IGNs income is solely coming from dei companies
Just remember Kane & Lynch caused a reviewer to get fired because he gave a middle score to a game his site was promoting, and that's all the reason you need to question any high scores for advertised games.
The late Kevin Samuels used to say the same thing - rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10, and you can't use 7.
Nice video, but here’s the thing: We don’t care about IGN
It's just "long march through the institutions" 😢😢😢
Never forget how IGN gave Doom [2016] a 7.1 and essentially told on themselves how bad they were at the game with their Cons
To even put it in the same range of quality as SW Outlaws and Dustborn just absolutely disqualifies them as a legitimate review outlet
Concord and Stellar Blade having the same exact score is BEYOND unforgivable.
"She's a 7." Isn't that what you tell your friend when trying to set him up with a blind date?
7 literally means "we didn't play it because what's the point we aren't allowed to say what we really think".
Someone on another channel joked that IGN really score out of 5 then just add 5 to it. Could be.
EDGE Magazine had the same problem back in the day.
Kevin Samuels always said "Rate yourself from 1 to 10 but you can't pick 7" well most people couldn't without saying I'm a 7. You can't make this $h!t up.
Getting a review score above a seven on IGN is like saying that Kotaku has journalistic integrity. You mine-as-well be trying to get blood from a stone, it won't happen.
Goodness gracious. I really can't stand these guys. They only give higher scores to games so that they can get their sponsorship money, a.k.a Monetary/Payment Bias.
The best solution to IGNs terrible numerical scoring is not visiting their site or socials
"It's a masterpiece of stronk wahmen, inclusivity, and storytelling." 7/10
"It's a dogwhistle to white supremacists." - 7/10
"What a total waste of time." - 7/10
A game review should be as objective as humanly possible. Talk about the specs of the game. Talk about how well it runs on X system. Talk about how well the audio is mixed. Talk about the price point and whether the amount of content available is worth $70.
What I DON'T want to hear from a review is how diverse and inclusive it is/n't.
They have lost all credibility with their rating system when "Little Kitty Big City" is clearly a 10/10...
IGN has managed to make their 7/10 review score more of a meme than it already was. For years people joked that 7 was IGN's lowest score for "AAA" games but now it's their only score. 😅
A cold day in hell, indeed...
Thought they had an 8 problem back in the day the joke was always "hate out of eight" because 1-7 meant it was a trash game and then 8 was like "Average" or something. They've always had this issue though.
I miss the old magazine days when they would have a few writers each rate a game with a quick blurb on their reasoning. Not that that would mean much with the current version of VG journalists.
I remember for years they were a joke because they would give incredible games average scores and then give COD 9 every single year.
Step 1: Play the game
Step 2: Write an article about the game
Step 3: Give the game 7/10
Step 4: Have a crappy take about the game on X
Step 5: Get backlash about your crappy takes
Step 6: ???
Step 7: Profit...?
