I'm glad they finally released it, but I couldn't STAND the background music. It was so mellow dramatic and unnecessary through out the whole thing. Something you would play at the end or in a sad scene, but they set that as the enter mood throughout, and it really took me out of the whole experience. Also wish Koston spoke more.
2020 and we're still region-locking stuff. I'd love to watch it but if they don't want my money because of where I live I'm gonna try and watch it in other ways.
i wish they would have had more stuff from current skaters about the legacy of the game affecting the future of skateboarding and also i wish they showed more in depth stuff about the development of the games (but i'm biased because i make games) overall though i thought it was great and it's cool it exists at all
question for the next ask radrat: do you think someone could ever create a skateboarding encyclopedia? I ask because it seems like there is enough information on skateboarding out there that someone could possibly do it but since a lot of stories regarding who invented this or who was the first to do that boil down to "one person said this but that person said that" could that effect its credibility? Also this question was inspired by this video. that pretending im a superman video definitely had alot of new info and stories no one had heard of till now. love your videos rad rat, keep up the awesome work!

@@lightningfarronxp8899 That's weird. I've sent him a few questions and he has answered all of them. Maybe you sent it back when he took that little break from TH-cam.
I want to watch it so much. But I CAN'T. It's not available in Germany. At all. And it is geoblocked on every platform. That's so stupid and unfair for a digital thing.
@@6.thedollar415 why should I buy that and then buy a VPN too and can't even use it freely if I wouldn't have a VPN and set my Amazon Account at risk with that? They should just take out the geoblocking.
I'm in the credits too!.. As a backer but still! I was super disappointed by this documentary. I was hoping to see more about, well, the game. But it was almost exclusively about the cultural impact of skateboarding games, which is cool, but that should be a chapter in the movie, not the whole thing. There were almost no developers during the entire documentary, which was a HUGE bummer. We had a chance to peek behind the curtain and they just didn't give it to us. I'm glad this exists, but with someone like icebears behind it I thought it would be more about well, the game.
I also thought it was underwhelming. Most of the stuff they've showed I already knew from interviews with the skaters, Tony and stuff. The newest parts to me were those were they had the bands to talk about how the game changed their lives. The other day I saw an interview with the devs on TH-cam, don't remember the TH-cam channel, but it was so much cooler and more about things ABOUT the games you know? This movie were less about the history of Tony Hawk's games and more about the Tony Hawk's games in history.
@@andremalerba5281 A perfect explanation! Everything you just said, I feel the exact same way. I wouldn't be disappointed if they gave it a subtitle like "Pretending I'm A Superman: The Cultural Impact of the THPS Series" or something. But yeah I backed it expecting to hear from the devs about the development of the game, and that wasn't something this documentary covered aside from the surface level "it started off as an Armageddon game" blah blah blah.
@@Jacket430 thanks man! Exactly! That title would suit so much better! I would like to hear everything from the devs POV, their fight to get the animations, inspiration for creating the stages, crazy tricks, how they came with the idea of Officer Dick and adding Spiderman to the game, the motion capture with the skaters, everything ABOUT the game development! We all know about the impact of the game and the culture and skate itself! As Tony said multiple times, there's a new generation of skaters that grew with the games and didn't knew some of those tricks were impossible and manage to pull them off! So we have that! I would rather have the movie putting more focus on the devs and giving sprinkles of these other stuff instead of the other way around.
I just watched the documentary and i thought it was okay for a rental at best. The info on the first two games was good but they quickly glossed over the rest. I wish they could’ve got Bam Margera and talk about his influence on Underground to American Wasteland especially since Jamie Thomas talks about how he didn’t like the shift into Underground. The film also reused alot of old footage of Hawk, Mullen, etc. We have seen multiple times already. However, it is a nice watch if you are a Tony Hawk/THPS fan 💯
I just wish it covered more. Its only a little over an hour and they dont even START talking about the games until 20 minutes in, then they spend like 30-40 minutes on THPS1 and 2 and then "Yeah and then 3, 4, thug, and thug 2 happened lets just skip those" and they go straight to Ride/Shred for 2 milliseconds and its over. I kinda also wish it talked more about the game development rather than JUST the impact. Talk about why levels were chosen, why they thought to add elements, how they programmed the tricks, the choice in level design, etc.
Just got the remastered games today, played it for around 3 hours. It is awesome! Just watched the documentary, it was a nice. Would recommend to everyone who's a THPS fan! Don't expect too much tough.
SPOILER: The final edit where they put the video of Tony Hawk doing the 900 at 48, side by side with him doing it when he was young AND!! with his virtual self doing it in the game gave me goosebumps man, holy shit that ending was phenomenal, I almost cried :')
There is a character called Axl in Thrasher Skate & Destroy and he looks a bit like young Tony Hawk (Hair and everything.) Maybe a coincidence or they just made a similar skater without the name, maybe they already started modeling him before and thought "of course he is okay with this, he is not gonna pass on this!" Just speculating, don't shoot!
Solid interesting documentary. Found it weird they barely touched the Underground series and Bam wasn’t mentioned At All, but, liked and learned a lot from it.
Could Bam have been a licensing issue? Because I know this is unrelated but in the recent game that was released he isn't in it and was photoshopped out of a poster because of licensing issues thats my theory atleast
Movie went way too quick. Talked alot about the first few games then talked about Underground & underground 2 for five seconds, then straight to ride and shred. No mention of American wasteland or proving ground, project 8 got one by Tony saying it was nearing the end of the popularity tho. Didn't even show the famous "Goat" (you know which one)
#PIAS was a letdown; Some parts felt like forced Birdhouse ads, it took too long to drop to begin with & didn't live up to the initial hype overall IME. Lots of missing skaters that should've been included & they rehashed a ton of old interview/video footage. Notice they completely skipped mentioning the 'Lacey/Leo Baker' nonsense entirely..?

So cool that they interviewed Ler from Primus
I loved this doc! My only gripes are that they could have gone a lot deeper into the actual games and it was too short! :)
The story about Rodney being jumped is in his book documentary, first time I heard him talk about it in the movie though.
