I love my longines vhp had it 2 months so far, I got mine from longines Eshop online 43mm white face, classic look with great tech. Not mad at all that I payed 1050.00 retail no regrets.
It’s been a really really good watch, but I had to graduate to BREITLING super ocean it is definitely my go to watch now but today I put on my DOXA sub 600T professional
I heard about this watch few months ago and I fell in love with it. Because of the accuracy and the features like smart crown which lets you set the hours and minutes independently. Then I started to look at some entry level Grand Seiko's with 9f movement and I thought this will be the better option with its 50 year life expectancy, overall better fit and finish etc. But, and it's a really big but, 9f movements are not capable of setting the hour and minute independently. Also, the GS is supposed to have this mechanism to reduce the backlash and the mechanism to always hit the markers. And I watched I think most of the available videos about these quartz GS' watches and what I see is that the date is not changing at midnight as it should. The seconds hand have some backlash when watched at slow motion and also it is not hitting the markers 100% correctly which is guaranteed by Grand Seiko. And also the seconds hand have this dual step instead of a single tick. And all that combined just does not scream GS quality which they promised. Having all that in mind, I think that Citizen being cheaper with their Chronomaster line and feature richer movements and also this Longines VHP which also has rich history in accurate quartz movements is just a better option for a everyday watch. Grand Seiko is probably better made watch overall but it comes at much higher price. Thank you for the video because this Longines I hope is going to be my next watch. And I have to say (having also an automatic watch), I am conscious quartz lover for their practicality and that they represent what watches were invented for.
9FXX are getting a bit old now. The new GMT versions have adjustable hour hand, but it's definitely silly that they don't have adjustable hour hand on the standard 3 handers. All the accuracy goes out the window if you travel with the watch and have to readjust the time.
One plus is battery changes. The battery driven 9f and I believe the Chronomaster need to be sent to Japan for a battery change. The VHP can be changed at your local dealer as long as you don't let it go completely dead. If it goes completely dead, the perpetual calendar needs to be reset at the factory.
I've heard it's not great to take a shower with pretty much any watch. The problem (as it was explained to me) is humidity in the air _can_ make it into the watch. It's water resistant not air resistant, and when there's a pressure difference between the air inside & outside the watch, air _does_ move in & out of the case (again, so I was told). Based on this, swimming is quite a bit safer than a hot shower, just because of the reduced air pressure delta both during and after swimming. Part of my reason for mentioning this here is to see if anyone has an opinion about it, but it sounded credible to me. I believe there's a simple test for moisture in the case where you heat up the case, then apply cold to the crystal and see if there's condensation inside.
I have it, bought it in Poland on discount in some e-store for, wait for it, 3500 PLN which corresponds to roughly 875 USD. Fortunately for me, since it was the last in stock in this shop so it get discounted. It's even better than on video, the quality is really high, setting the watch when the hands are moving like in fast-forward is mesmerizing. I have Bulova Precisionist as well and this Longines is much better overall (of course the price is 3x higher, but still). I think it's one of the best value for money on the market right now.
Interesting watch, I have a Citizen signature perpetual that has some of the same features but not haq. An auto conquest is same price as this one if someone likes the style but doesn't like quartz
Nice Adam! Interesting watch that is not getting any attention. Do you think you would like this watch more if it had 20 atm and a screw crown. Something you can wear anywhere, even to the beach on vacation etc. Make it more sporty with a rubber strap option. I don't know why more brands don't go the Rolex route and make their watches more waterproof.
I love mechanical watches ( I even prefer hand wind over auto), but I really do enjoy the fantastic accuracy of my Bulova Lunar Pilot Chronograph with it's 262 Khz Precisionist quartz movement. Especially considering I paid $330 for it.
With the V.H.P. being readily available for $1,000.00 in the GMT version and the Citizen 0100 selling for $7,400.00 and not available for purchase, the Longines makes better sense with similar accuracy, but better availability at a far better price, with Longines being 1/7 the cost of the Citizen. I'll simply buy the Longines.
Interesting. Wasn't aware of these HAQ models. Is there a term for, like, just not-crappy quartz? I prefer mechanicals, but am also perfectly ok with decent quartz pieces, that is, the second hand doesn't wobble, they line up with the indices, and it's not too loud. This watch certainly looks like it has good alignment, and I assume if a company's gonna make an HAQ watch, they would, but that's not a given, is it? I still don't get why they don't just make more sweeping quartz movements. Even Bulova doesn't seem to care to market their sweeping movements much.
Just found this video. I'm very glad I did. I have thought that i might like a luxury quartz piece, but afraid I might have a hard time bonding like you did after I pull the trigger. I have a couple of beater quartz pieces, like a solar GShock and a Casio Protrek but think it might be cool to have a really nice quartz piece. What are your thoughts on a Grand Seiko Limited GMT? Great video by the way.
thanks man, i have some old footage of the bumblebee new quartz gmt from GS that i just haven't gotten around to editing. To be completely honest, it doesn't really do it for me. Id rather save the cash and get the Longines if I had to pick
@@tententock Thanks Adam, I really appreciate the guidance. Also I'm not really sure I would be cool with the design of the GS that remind me of an Explorer II. It might get to be a bit irritating. It might be worth a drive to the AD to see a Longines.
From what I have seen, the VHP has a much better finish, and more attractive dial. A thing that really bothered me with the Certina Precidrive watches I've seen, is that the second hand misses many of the markers. That would really drive me crazy in the end.
DharmaMonkey, so you avoid all water possible? When you have kids running around and a dress watch on, sooner or later you'll get water tipped on it, or have to submerse your hand. The could've easily bumped it up to 100m (albeit at a slightly higher price).
It's all in the mind. I have the white 41mm. Handles waterfalls and home showers without blink. Fantastic accuracy and Longines is a great name. A brand on the way back, even though they never lost it.
It needs better styling to be appealing. And 100m water resistance with a screw-down crown. I say they should have gone for a more classic look or vintage-esque
Casio make a JDM called Oceanus. It is a tough movement solar atomic watch with incredible accuracy. It is titanium w/ sapphire at 40mm. A very nice looking watch that does all the Longine stuff for 500.00 usd.
I think you and I don't like the ticking seconds hand on a watch at that price! If it's going to be heavy, it should have mechanical parts. Quartz- cheap and light! I thought about that watch and your video convinced me that I don't want one!
@Motor City Cobra you assume the whole world should know what an explorer is. The bezel on the Explorer is wider and surrounded by superlative design cues. Not so with the V.P.H.
If you squint, it looks like a Milgauss... I like the look of this.. Wish they'd do this case and dial with an automatic... I just can't spent close to 1k on a quartz watch............ ya know?
I love my longines vhp had it 2 months so far, I got mine from longines Eshop online 43mm white face, classic look with great tech. Not mad at all that I payed 1050.00 retail no regrets.
How has been your experience over the years?
It’s been a really really good watch, but I had to graduate to BREITLING super ocean it is definitely my go to watch now but today I put on my DOXA sub 600T professional
Quartz is the way to go. Great Watch.
this is a very cool watch, and if Swatch Group put this movement in something like an Omega Aqua Terra, it would be a license to print money
I've been wanting to buy a VHP. I think they're really cool. Leaps and bounds. This is one of those exceptions I'm willing to pay for.

sounds like you made your mind up! I remember my GS quartz didnt change at midnight either...longines is my pick. - adam, PW

I love mechanical, but having at least one quartz that's always ready to go is a great if you have a collection and rotate watches.
100% agree
Thanks for the review. This is definitely a underrated watch. I may be purchasing one.

Very nice video and extremely informative. By the way, what type of battery does it use?
Agree with B, wonder if that would make the aqua terra a touch more affordable
Great looking and features, right now I am waiting for the new Hydro conquest
Paid 780€ Brand new in store. Was it good deal? 42mm, chronograph, black ruber strap
Tied with the Citizen Chronomaster, not the Promaster as you said.

Amazing value prop
The ETA motor made esclusively for this model of Longines runs at 400 Khz and is thermocompensated, thus its higher accurancy than the Bulovas.

Not Promaster, the Chronomaster.
That my next watch!!!!!!!!!
this thing is very hard to find now the longines even said that the production of this model is already stopped
In practice, is the 50 meter water resistance okay? Any experience?
Interesting. Wasn't aware of these HAQ models. Is there a term for, like, just not-crappy quartz? Sweeping movements will use more battery. ISA make a sweeping hand movement (4 beats per second). ISA 9500-1010
Check out the blue dial.. so cool!
Very cool! 👍
Can 50 meters water resistance be considered realistic? And wouldn't the seals deteriorate after a few years?
Do all the VHP models have that power save mode?
Yes
What is the exact model name of the G-SHOCK watch?
Just found this video. I'm very glad I did. I have thought that i might like a luxury quartz piece, but afraid I might have a hard time bonding like you did after I pull the trigger. Since it wears large, a 38mm option would be great. Cool concept that might be worth looking into when I want to wear a luxury G-shock.
I know right?
They do make a 36mm version. Its worth checking it out.
How does this compare to the Certina DS Action?
From what I have seen, the VHP has a much better finish, and more attractive dial. A thing that really bothered me with the Certina Precidrive watches I've seen, is that the second hand misses many of the markers. That would really drive me crazy in the end.
Precidrive movement in the certina is not as good.
Great review! Extremely interesting watch, never heard of it before. Thanks for bringing this up .
Definitely worth considering
Hi, what is the weight of this watch?
if you take it on a trip would it reajust automatically to the time of the country your in ?
no auto, just use crown to +- hours
=)
Looks like a great everyday watch. But the 5atm is a dream breaker for me.
Deal breaker? it's not a diving watch. I don't shower, swim or do dishes with watches on ..... unless I have a purpose built diver. Just saying.
DharmaMonkey, so you avoid all water possible? When you have kids running around and a dress watch on, sooner or later you'll get water tipped on it, or have to submerse your hand.

Does it come with a strap? Good Review
Donnacha Foley no strap
great video! may I ask in what sense were you "turned on" with regards to the price point? never knew it was possible to be turned on that way.
What referance is that Gshock?
GW-M5610BC-1JF
I'll bet switching to a different strap might change your feelings about the watch.
Disappointed with the fit and finish of the Grand Seiko you must be kidding.
Chris Cook how many grand seikos have you handled in the metal?
What was the reference number for the GShock in the video?
5600bc
10:10 Tock Thanks man!
Citizen 0100 is +/- 1 sec/year
It needs better styling to be appealing. And 100m water resistance with a screw-down crown.
I say they should have gone for a more classic look or vintage-esque
Bro it a g shock I had one at my work.. It broke i do construction and the g shock GOT SHOCKED!!!
How much 💵💰❓
700
Let me know if you sell your gshock
Casio make a JDM called Oceanus. It is a tough movement solar atomic watch with incredible accuracy. It is titanium w/ sapphire at 40mm. A very nice looking watch that does all the Longine stuff for 500.00 usd.
Hi, What is the model reference?
Miguel Toro OCW-S100-1AJF
that looks like a nice piece!
Adam Kosna it is. Most comfortable watch I own.
That Oceanus is a good one, the only problem is the Casio logo
Amazing looking watch it's got my initials VHP never seen that before ,please send me 1 my way please if you like PM ⌚⌚⌚🏴❤️
Maybe what you want to say is it’s “too expensive “ or dressy to bond with!
Seiko Astron!
Anderson Brian Anderson Gary Hernandez Carol
Fun fact. Quartz watches are more accurate than mechanical/automatic watches.
Sadly, water resistant only 50m
Baraq Badar how far you diving?
@@whatsstefon i guess he is "shower diver" =)
Water resistant to only 50m? Thats a shame for a sports watch
Looks like you deeper than 50m everyday.
If not that’s enough
I think you and I don't like the ticking seconds hand on a watch at that price! If it's going to be heavy, it should have mechanical parts. Quartz- cheap and light! I thought about that watch and your video convinced me that I don't want one!
You should never.. show or compare a g shock next to a longine watch that's blasphemy..
The bezel lets this watch down, it's very plain and bland, mundane with no character or thought gone into it. It undermines the overall appearance.
@Motor City Cobra you assume the whole world should know what an explorer is. The bezel on the Explorer is wider and surrounded by superlative design cues. Not so with the V.P.H.
@Motor City Cobra I said "surrounded by superlative design cues"
I also said the bezel on the Explorer is "wider"
If you squint, it looks like a Milgauss... I like the look of this.. Wish they'd do this case and dial with an automatic... I just can't spent close to 1k on a quartz watch............ ya know?
conquest is available in auto. same dial same band.
Too bad it's not water resistant.
