Rewriting a terribly written song into one that genuinely sounds pretty good takes a lot of skill, not to mention writing it in a way that makes way more sense. You’re too powerful for Disney, they better watch out

I love how some dude in his room can make a better song than a whole ass group of music writers that were PAID to make whatever tf the original version of this song was
I don't think they paid for a group of music writers, the wish songs are like one person's first-draft lyrics

@@TR4NS1ST0R yeah tbh. i’ve seen that going around. i haven’t actually watched the movie so ig i shouldn’t be talking. but yeah glaring gramatical issues wouldn’t be a problem
To be fair to the original songwriter, she was only given a single week. She was kinda set up to fail
'It's no mystery where all our soul comes from' is such a brilliant line because it doubles for the sun's ancient name 'sol'
"Sol" is how you say sun in latin languages like portuguese and spanish
Double entendre huh?
Neat :)
@marilucs 👍 that's awesome they still use it! I knew it was Latin from the old drawings of our solar system, but it's cool the word stuck around ^_^
SOL? SOL BADGUY?

The way jonah unintentionally made Asha's character be like the enthusiastic but tired of this shit/confused person is so fun and a much better characterization. Give me a disney princess who doesn't know wtf is going on.
Finally the representation we deserve
Why couldn’t Disney even try to come close to something this good!?😭
their mindset was: profit > passion
The original song is so inherently flawed that even this version still doesn't manage to fully cleanse it. Gets close but not quite

"Here's a little tree allegory" proceeds to not give a tree allegory
The tree allegory is so little it cant be seen or heard
I think it might relate to the music video
Maybe its related to 'inspiratory' where plants inhale/inspire oxygen, cause otherwise inspiratory doesnt make much sense
@@klltsun_2576 That's more of a pun than an allegory
I thought it was because in the movie the original line is sung by a tree
I can't get over how well "This is Patrick" fits the beat-
"In the game of life, we're all shareholders." idk why, but that line is really satisfying to me, from a rhythmic perspective and a literal one.
With the “game of life” aspect of the rhyme it certainly sounds less corporate than the original
The game of life fixes the line so much
I think I like the original line better because I feel like it better fits the song and better matches the tune there.
I love it when 2 verses overlap, I love how you added that. And I love you actually adding comedy!
It really elevates the song and makes it come full circle. Very satisfying to hear.
yeah, thats why im always struggling through nonstop as i try to cover all parts. it’s fun though!
"You don't have to look too hard, it's been within you from the start." // "You've got so much to explore. We all have got to write our own story." is so fucking genius because it actually ties in with the movie's plot and themes! You don't have to, or shouldn't, rely on somebody else to make your dreams come true, that power is all yours and it's up to you to make them happen. Wishing on a star and believing in yourself are the same thing, because there's stardust within us. And them being sung in tandem is such well-crafted storytelling and I'm chewing on the furniture-
wtf is star dust

Stardust is YOUR stardust

@@GxAsquaredMusic The raw elements of stars that make up everything around us, including us.
Just kinda dawned on me, the original sounds like a song to lure the protagonist down a cult-y path. Like they're singing about all the fluffy, useless bullshit to lead them astray and distract them from their main goal - yet it's treated like a big revelation.
As someone into science, I immediately got the vibe of what the song was trying to say- we are all connected to the stars, we all rely on the Sun and we are all made from stardust, so our very being was forged in the hearts of stars and we share the universe’s origin story.
So the Julia Michael’s version does make sense to me.

Honestly this part turned from painful w how bad the writing is to kinda charming? Like sure, it’s still made up words but the “write our own story” part kinda gives it a double meaning. Like “writing your own story” as in controlling your own life but also they’re literally writing their own with using words they made up
Inspiratory is a word which relates to inhalation, so perhaps the line means that the allegory is something that should be "breathed in" which would make sense since to breath you have to internalize the air before breathing it out which would be a nice metaphor to how the allegory should too be internalized.
@@BambooStalks26It can *also* mean inspiring, which is what I believe he was going for. Both work.

"Don't be ashamed of all your scars, it's okay to let down your guard" Bro, these lyrics would have gone so hard, cuz think about it, those who are abused turn to cartoons for comfort, and most of those cartoons are usually Disney cartoons!
This would have been an excellent way to celebrate Disney's 100th anniversary, a way to tell all this abuse victims who watched their films, "Its okay, we're here for you!" 🥲
God, Disney fumbled the bag... (〒﹏〒)
I love the end where the two choruses align, it's so catchy
Disney, you were shamed and humbled by everyone online
Trying to think of ways you could develop on this if you wanted to include the original (but horribly communicated) premise of the song, which is that we are made from stardust.
"So our dust... is *star* dust?"
Maybe throw in something like:
"It's true!
You're a star...
...because a star is you!"
Yesss thank u, after really trying to decipher the message of the original song (which, yeah, it's very poorly communicated so I don't blame him for missing it) I wished that he used the rewrite to drive home the "you're made of stardust" thing. One of the main flaws of the song is still here in this rewrite.... a huge amount of the words still mean basically nothing lol.
It seems like disney just wanted to reverse engineer a reason why wishing on a star is actually deep, and then used chatgpt to make shallow lyrics.
This. The problem with the original is, that they never give any explanation on what being made of stardust actually means for anyone. Does everyone have hidden magical powers because they came from the stars? Does wishing upon a star activate your own hidden magic because of your connection to it? That would be a reasonable plot point, but the song does not really say that and instead settles for "you're awesome and special" as a message.
OHHHHHHHHHH
That was the point of the song?
@@memesnahgee5259 Yeah I think the most broken thing about the lyrics is that people usually say "you're a star" to mean "you are special!"
But in this case they mean it literally. You are literally made of stardust and therefore literally a star (which is a stretch but ok.) That's why they think they must have blown your mind. But obviously audiences are just going to read all of it as random platitudes.
ok but like this sounds better than the original lyrics wtf
uh that doesnt really say much…
The bar is on the ground bro of course it does
"Hey. Listen, I'm just gonna sing a song, okay?"
I wish more Musicals introduced their musical numbers like this.
You managed to nail Lin-Manuel style polyphony, and that's not easy. This is really really good.
I cringed every time I heard the original, but your version is not only listenable but an absolute bop!
to me this version of the song is pretty much conveying using the being made of stardust and being a star as a way of saying, being you will always be enough. No matter who that you is.
This + Starboy = Congrats, you got the fandom getting their mortal hands on handsome blonde boy...
Also, it's funny how the swearing feels like the curse words in Hazbin Hotel's song.
Especially hilarious that the character throwing out the swear words in this version is "Valentino"
Doesn't feel traditional Disney though
I love the breaking character moments lol
Ok but why does "this is Patrick" work so well with the instrumental part
I like the idea that asha and valentino don't get this idea at first but then for the climax is when she finally understand
I can just imagine this autoplaying on a kid's ipad and the first thing their parents hear is "B what the F" 😂
FINALLY, THE "here I are" IS GONE 🙏
The one and only gripe I had is that "metaphor-y" should've been "metaphor, see" and it would've flowed just as well... Since "excitatory" was removed and replaced with "inspiratory". But that's such a minor thing. I love this so much.
Your version is a masterpiece, the “spark inside your heart” line was my favorite!!
Here me out...
The star was originally gonna be like a star prince. Like a magical star boy but like...an original Disney prince kind of look. Imagine if Jonah's version is the original star boy singing the song
This is genuinely so impressive, I can actually FEEL the Disney magic through your version
the way this cleared the actual song so hard, seriously ggs man didn’t think this could be saved
It’s amazing how much better these songs get by just changing the lyrics a bit. Really shows you that the original was just a lazy first draft
I hummed, sang, and know the words of your version more than I did with the original, which I remember nothing of other than that atrocious "here I are" line. It's like Disney suddenly forgot that a song is catchier and memorable when the lyrics MAKE SENSE. Thanks for making this.

@@SpicaStudios6427that songs lyrics are ai generated

As someone into science, I immediately got the vibe of what the original song was trying to say- we are all connected to the stars, we all rely on the Sun and we are all made from stardust, so our very being was forged in the hearts of stars and we share the universe’s origin story.
So the Julia Michaels version does make sense to me.
I love how he weaves in the confused talking bits
See, when an *actual human* works on the song lyrics and not a freaking chatbot GPT, it's GOOD.
Just... don't with the AI
1:41 for some reason I keep thinking he’s going to say “so you sacrificed them… for Minecraft!” God snapcube has infested my brain
This is Patrick is more clever than anything in the movie
"So your dust is my dust"
....."What!?"
""I don't freaking know , just go along with it"
Pfft...if Disney was family friendly i can definitely see this being part of a song.
This makes SO much more sense than the original song. I thought it was some weird lore tacked on or some other happy bs - I mean the song just comes out of nowhere and starts saying this confusing stuff!
Your version gives me so much more clarity in an actually fun way (cause everything was so clunky in the OG version too). It’s no longer “You’re special xD” or “Maybe we’re made out of literal stardust???” and now becomes, “There’s something special that passes down every generation, that everyone has - (love, faith, hope, etc?) - a star!”
Idk, it’s just really refreshing 👍
There’s most likely an alternate universe where Wish actually used all the scrapped concepts in the final movie and many other ideas TH-camrs had on the movie and Wish went down as one of the greatest animated films of all time
I really love the 'Don't be ashamed of all your scars. It's all okay, let down your guard' part. That's beautiful
Why is this actually good
God, I can’t get over these lyrics. I prefer them so much more. They just sound deeper and more meaningful. Also I know I already said this in the last video, but I made a cover of your version on my channel the other day :D
It’s crazy how Disney can make such a good movie with good songs like Encanto and then you have Wish… with these songs….
I love your version. It's so much better than the actual lyrical dumspter fire that was the original. Your version makes so much more sense too, it's like "Wow... Why did the songwriters not think of this???" I especially appreciate the rewrite of the solar and supernova lines, completely changing thr "sEe, ThAt'S wHeRe AlL tHe BaLlS oF gAs CoMe FrOm!" lyric to something that actually matches the message of the song, the key change actually flowing a lot nicer and how the overall message is explained so much better. Wonderful job, Jonah
1:31: god, this line is soooo good!, you literally turned a fucking fart joke into a very sweet line, you really do a great job!
Cut the swearing and this could totally work as a real Disney song. Even the characters being confused. A song about star very poorly trying to explain his point leaving Asha just confused at the end.
Oh and you gotta keep Patrick in.
i need this on spotify so i can listen to it again and again 😭
i really love the overlapping ending, it goes so well with the song. disney should be scared of you

Or how the tides in the sea move along to the beat?
What’s passed down generationally to him, to her, to you, and to me?
And why our eyes all look like microscopic galaxies?
Have you ever wondered why you look up at the sky for answers?
Well, you don’t have to look too hard

If they ever remade Wish in live action, they should buy the rights to this song to use in the movie
Disney could never make a song as good as lin jonah who miranda
How come a multi-BILLIONAIRE company couldn't come close to something THIS good??
Immediately forgot how the actual song goes this is so much better
the section where the lines overlap is reminding me so much of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Encanto and that's actually one of my favorite parts from that song. you should have written this song, this is awesome.
(I saw the rewrite video a few days ago, but decided to listen again just because, why not?)
this brings me joy, WHY DOES YOUR VERSION SLAP SO HARD?!?!?!
I love how while you were making it you were still alike “What does this song even mean?” xD❤
I love that Jonah is still confused by the end, but it makes the song more memorable~

This is incredible but I must admit that the beat sounds exactly like this one ad I keep getting
This is 10^(10^100)x better than what Disney wrote.
Seeing a special thanks to me in the description really made me happy. Thanks man.
Damn, this is good
I just wanna say, this is so much more charming than the original. It's still a vague 'believe in yourself :)' number, but this one doesn't just seem like a corporate word jumble (an often grammatically incorrect one). Like, I can genuinely believe this is the type of silly, positive song magic talking forest animals would randomly sing to the hero. Even the reluctance and confusion of the main characters adds to that. It also strikes me as a song that would seem to have little to no significance at the time, but by the end of the movie, gains some relevance. I have not actually seen Wish, so bear with me, but this version of the song serves to inspire the idea that neither Asha or the kingdom needs to rely on Magnifico for their wishes. Where's the need to wish upon a star if we are all already made of them? Not everyone has literal magic on their side, of course, but with some work on our own ends, we may achieve our own desires and "write our own story". (I have to assume this was at least kind of the point of the original too?? But it's hard to say for sure, considering they barely tried to communicate anything through the writing. For all I know, they just said "we need a talking animal song, and work in something about a star, because we have a star character now". I don't think anyone tried with making of this film at all.)
I find it funny that your thumbnail and the Disney one are of (almost) the same frame in the movie, but yours is a better quality image 😂😂
I just realized that the tune of this song has bill wurtz vibes and I hope that's not what they were going for originally.
