Good stuff. It was good to see this, because I had to stop almost every time while playing TR3 by myself from not knowing what to do. Took me like 6 hours to get through the beginning India levels and, like most speedruns, jarring to see it done in under 20 minutes. Some areas are just baffling to me for how you even figure out without a speedrun or guide to progress through. Or lots of trial and error. Or really really good eyes. I didn't really have this type of issue with the first and second OG games.
My cousin played this for months, was already in Nevada and I accidentally used a save crystal in the first level. He hated me guts, but he was a bully to me so that was my revenge
😂🤣😁 Love the way you accidentally gave him the best punishment ever without any physical form of violence, well done. The 2nd best way would be to switch the electric supply off whilst players are mid game, they really get mad. A friend of mine was on a game years back, he had been on it for about 6hrs, around 1am there was a power cut, his temper lit the street up with a red glow.
Luds gate is a area of London which has a gate on Ludgate hill half why between Ludgate Circus and St Paul’s Cathedral. It’s also one of the wider points of the river Fleet which is one of London’s lost underground rivers. It’s mainly a sewer now. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
"It's not a glitch, it's an unintended feature." Does anyone do unintended-feature-less runs, then? To me the main draw to watching speedruns isn't even how fast you can do it, it's just seeing the whole game without wasting time. Whenever someone uses an exploit to skip a bit, it just seems ultra disappointing, like I've wasted time after all. I'd love to see someone play a game fast, and fully in the way the game was intended.
Here ya go: th-cam.com/video/yQyHGppt0uQ/w-d-xo.html 100% glitchless is the closest I can think of to what you want. Almost nobody runs that category, but Makeal is a machine, so...
Surelly you are af highlly skilled gamer no doubt about it :-) i respect that as gamer my self i am but i wonder why the use of flares in broad lightened areas and instead of not in dark places or at-least in most of dark ones ? I've noticed that in all tr- speedruns from others too Is this some kind of an innocent glictch or just a technic i wonder ? Not that it bothers me just wondering i know you are not going to reply back but never mind :-) Anyway very nice run :-)
If you have a flare in hand when falling from a height that would cause Lara to have a special animation upon landing (crouched then raising up again), if you throw the flare at the moment you hit the ground, the throwing flare animation overwrites the landing animation. That's a gain of time of a few seconds. Over a whole run, that's easily a few minutes spared. Notice he does the same thing when interacting with switches. There's a small downtime after pulling a switch before you can get Lara to move again. You can forgo that delay by drawing the guns. Hence why he seemingly draws/stows pistols in random places.
Gonna sound like a total noob here, but what does using the flares frequently do? I'm assuming something to make you go faster? Cool run, really takes me back
Late reply, not sure if previous comment is a troll or not. If you throw a flare mid air it cancels the stumble animation and allows you to keep running/keep momentum.
Area 51 : you can do a flip into the plastic covering for the button setting the rocket off - so you don't need to get the thing from the top of the UFO :)
ActionTurnip yeah I get you - I'm new to this :) & have just watched the one from Apel using glitches... Bloody hell... What's with the 14 watch screens just before the end of Coastal Village, BTW?
@@HenryMcGuinnessGuitar It's for precise positioning. If you've ever played any classic TRs you know that some places require precise jumping. Usually that involves using the walk mode, side-stepping, etc. A solid few seconds to be perfectly angled. Here he is trying to reach places not exactly intended by devs to use shortcuts. So he needs to be extremely precise for the game mechanics to work to his advantage (like Lara grabbing a ledge as if she was arriving facing it when if fact she comes at an angle). The watch screen looks like a glitch but it's just a way to set up without losing time waiting for the animations to play through. Basically he presses a button. Pauses. Presses another button. Pauses. Etc. While the game hasn't shown the complete consequence of the actions he basically "stores" a move sequence that way. Which reduces move setup from 5-10 seconds for a complicated jump, to a mere 2 seconds without waiting for animations to finish.
@@tywinlannister8015 Interesting, thanks. I did some of the tricky things and found various areas I wasn't supposed to get to (though the corner bug tested my patience rather) - but didn't have the dedication for all this stuff, much as I love the game
@@HenryMcGuinnessGuitar Well it's like sleight of hand. Once you did it a couple of times it becomes very easy to achieve. But getting the right feeling for it the first few times can be supremely annoying.
Throwing a flare cancels any other animation that would take place at the same time you do it. When jumping for a big height, Lara will have a landing animation which causes her to take a couple of seconds to recuperate. Throwing the flare upon landing instead plays the throwing flare animation. So you don't waste 2 seconds waiting for her to get back up. Over a whole speedrun that's a few minutes spared. Not relevant if you're not competing for World Records.
The headphones don't work, they broke within a month of purchase. The microphone however has been working for over a year (for some reason) so I usually either wear the headphones around my neck, or use the "mic stand" in this video...
The speedrun community at large doesn't universally agree on the definition of Single Segment as defined by speedrunslive.com (I.E. never reloading a save). Some games use automatic checkpoint systems and are still considered SS when there are deaths, so it's not such a black and white concept. An actual segmented run stops the timer between segments, allowing the player to re-try that segment and make it as optimal as possible. So what do you call real-time runs that are done in one sitting and never stop the timer, but still contain reloads? Maybe we should come up with another name for them, but they aren't technically segmented. At the moment speedrun.com simply labels runs as "saves" or "no saves," but they are both contained within the single segment leaderboard. I think especially for obscure categories like this one where the run is pretty long, and there is literally no competition, I should be allowed to "wimp out" a bit. It's not like I'm competing for an optimized world record. If I was I would use a lot fewer - if any - saves since they would be less optimal. But I get where you're coming from, since the TRADITION up until relatively recently was to not use saves in single segment tomb raider runs, partly because in the past they mostly used IGT, making the use of reloads more problematic.
Not 1080p because I personally prefer to play the games in 4:3 if possible. The widescreen versions either stretch the screen to fit or slightly zoom in the camera so that you're closer to lara which bothers me. Probably an OCD thing. I know it's not really a disadvantage gameplay wise, but I also use the excuse that it leaves space on the screen for either the chat or the splits. I kept cussin cuz reasons.
I was just sighing in frustration because a run died right after getting through the most boring part of the run - India. But it's not entirely inaccurate to say my heart wasn't in this run 100%, part of why I haven't gone back to improve it...
If it was a TAS he wouldn't had made the mistakes he did, a TAS can make a better time than a human could, so no, it's not a TAS, and if it was (wich i doubt for what i said and because he has made many runs) it would be the laziest one i've ever seen
