I’m restoring an m40, I took the previous paint completely off as it was already pretty badly restored, now I have to repaint it, I bought day 1944 paint, I tried on the shell to see if it would hold on, but it doesn’t, I can scratch it off with my nails. Do you know if I have to use any sort of primer or what I should do to make it work?

    • @urho5487
      @urho5487 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

You need to paint it with a white or really light gray primer first

    Great work...
As it is an M42, (I do not mean to be rude or picky) , the color should be "Field Grey" instead of what seems to be "Apple Green" (as used in early M35s). Also I am sure you realised that the chinstrap has been mounted with the black-side on the wearer's skin... and it should be the other way around. I could also suggest the drawstring (as it appears on the video) should be replaced with one that would resemble the original ones a little more. However, you have done a truly great job restoring this piece of history. Congratulations on your workmanship.

The red and white colours in the decal were found to attract enemy fire, so were ordered painted over prior to the France 1940 campaign. Many units, however, especially in the rear echelons didn’t overpaint theirs.

Just started watching your videos. I love what you are doing! After watching a few, I was wondering how much human dna must be spackled around these helmets in the form of sweat in the chin straps, dandruff everywhere, and other, more gory content that may be all over the helmet. Just out of curiosity, can a '23 and me' test be done on the helmet somehow? It would be interesting at the very least. Godspeed!

Nice as a restoration of an old piece of steel.
But terrible for what it represents.
Who knows in one of the many cruel photos we see youtube is the fierce protagonist.
So it is to be condemned without appeal.
Conclusion We leave the past to the past in its oblivion. We hope that the future will preserve us from similar worldwide tragedies. At least I hope so if, not for me, at least for our grandchildren.

Nice restoration but the cheap decal makes the helmet look like a fake.

@@wwiituberestoration1011 Take it off then ! High quality fake helmets use spray on decals which if done right look almost perfect or just leave your helmet with no decal

www.dday-1944.com does superb realistic decals in original style and make. Its a French shop. But something else u can do with basic decals is cut your decal tight round black outline and brush a little thin glue on decal area and sprinkle metal dust shavings over it, then put decal on over it. A light sanding will make the metal shavings show through.
