Iirc, in the cartoons and comics, this was a normal ability for Atlanteans. They could all communicate with sea creatures. But making this unique to Atlan's bloodline in this rendition actually helps make it more of an interesting and well, powerful power. In the comics and cartoon it's presented in a silly, lighthearted way. But when you think about how unexplored the ocean is, that there's thousands, if not millions, of species we've never seen before, and what they're capable of, this becomes much more of an incredible ability. Especially portrayed in a "realistic" way, rather than a comic/toon way. Quite literally, he controls the oceans with it. Even if he can't manipulate water, all the sea creatures recognize him as their king and can hear his voice

Suddenly Aqua Man doesn’t seem like the Butt of everyone’s joke in the super hero community anymore, not since the silver screen captured his powers and everything that he can do and did them justice. Kinda makes you see that the ability to command all sea life isn’t such a petty super power? It may be useless on land, but in it’s element.... it’s not one to be trifled with.
I'm more of an MCU fan, but this scene tops anything the MCU has done so far. If only DCEU is as successful as this movie. The 1B mark is well deserved.
Not even going to lie. Watching 2:05 in a packed auditorium with the surround sound, beautiful special effects, and Aquaman using his abilities literally brought a single tear down my cheek. For years he was considered to be the joke of the DC universe with "lame powers". As the scene unfolded I couldn't help but feel as if I was a child again, experiencing that level of pure escapism where any and everything you worried about was vanquished with this very scene. It's a beautiful and iconic moment that surely will never be forgotten. Everything about this scene was visually perfect while still maintaining a true sense of remaining faithful to the comic. What was initially viewed as impossible became a reality with this very film.

Not every comic book movie has a "THAT MOMENT" scene. Where the actor, movie and soundtrack all lines up to literally bring the comic to life. But yeah, 2:01 does it for me every single time. Chills. DC is finally getting their movies done right and it's about damn time.

I remember when i first saw this movie i wondered why he was just killing so many people during this scene but i kind of get it now. It's a show of force. Not only is he showing his mastery of the ocean itself with him riding the freaking Kraken of all creatures, on top of that many Atlanteans see him as a 'half-breed' not worthy of his royal blood let alone his Atlantean blood. The trident not only legitimizes his right to rule but this shows the raw POWER he has over the sea and ALL the creatures within it.
2:40 For anybody who says "talking to fish" isn't a super power. Behold the use of "The Clear/The Blue", empowering normal sea creatures like whales to punch through Atlantean steel. Aquaman is no joke.
