Just to be clear: the boat had already been on the water for 2 days before it sank, including spending the whole night after day 1 in the water tied to the dock with no problems. The plug I used was one of those cheap flip-tab plugs which somehow came loose while we were beached playing at a sandbar on day 2. The bilge pumps were working but one of them blew a fuse that I wasn’t aware so when I opened the ballast tanks to bring on an extra 5000lbs of water to make our surf wave…the combination of the water in the hull that the bilge wasn’t pumping out, the full ballast tanks, and rough waves in the channel was just enough to overload the boat and it sank within 30 seconds of us realizing the problem. There’s not much you can do in that situation in the middle of the channel surrounded by 500ft cliff walls. My family was perfectly prepared and everyone was safe.

I would assume the insurance company would own it now unless you get paid to do the recovery and are buying it as scrap with a rebuilt title? After what happened with his family and the board sinking so fast, I was really disappointed to see all of those guys WITHOUT lifejackets when I watched on AWP's video. Watching just to see from their aspect but disappointed all the same.
On another hand I told my husband you jinxed it Jared, as soon as you said it would be an easy pick it was a done deal! lol.
I believe he said it sank on labor day or am I wrong? That thing was sitting down there a while!

This happens so often I don't know why especially for an expensive boat like that they dont have an electric valve gate that shuts automatically when the engine starts as a secondary safety for the drain plug. It's easy to forget or maybe not tight enough I've done it myself.
I would love to see a video of your team cleaning up and trying to get the boat running! That would be a cool end to the story. Jared and Doug are awesome aren't they? Was great to see them help you recover that awesome boat.

@Heroinsniffer4life a storm no one saw coming just came out of nowhere . he was out fishing on a boat at lions ferry in the washtucna Washington area and it capsized their fishing boat. Lesson is always wear your life jacket he was not and the others wernt either. The currents were strong and one thing led to another. The hard part was searching for a night during a down pour looking for him in hopes he was just hurt somewhere to watch a dive team having to find him he was a great guy soo young he had so much ahead of him. Rip rojelio Saldana!

FYI for those that don't know, in heavy Ds case it was probably to late with the balists full of water but if you can get the boat moving and up on plane the water will start to drain out of a unplugged drain hole. A useful trick if your bilge pump stops working and you have access to the plug after your moving pull it out drain it then put it back In while on plane.
Used that trick quite a few times myself. Learned it as a teenager playing around in aluminum boats on the river. We would knock cracks in the welds jumping logs and stuff to get back in the swamps. Gorilla tape is the bomb for those cracks by the way, buddy of mine used it on his boat a few years ago and its still holding

As an avid life long boater I’m so glad you require your kids to wear life jackets at all times, I see all too many people with young kids without their pfd’s on. Things happen so fast on the water there’s many times when there is no time to get them out from under seats or bins. If your a parent you need to be smart and prepare for the worst, it’s not worth your kids lives!!
My rule is if you are moving you better have your lifejacket for the kids. I also wear mine if we get up on plane or are moving fast. I also have a waterproof radio and signalling stuff with me. We only go on river and a few trips up to Lake Superior.
My rule is.. if your on my boat your in a life jacket. Period! Too many times we’ve seen search and rescue looking for someone under the water. I tell the kids all the time, Its not like a pool. I can’t see you under the water. I’m not going through that! They can deal with a farmer’s tan.

A boat this size and cost should have automatic bilge pumps AND bilge water level alarms. Letting water in for an hour or two before noticing the boat is settling is not a good thing.

99% sure that boat is headed for salvage....a LOT of stuff in a boat like that that's gonna be wrecked by 2 days at that depth, a ton of labor to clean and fix it all...cost to fix will eclipse cost to replace pretty quickly.

@@mikesmith8589 @Mike Smith That's not the kind of boat that you just let sit out in the sun for a few days to dry out and go, it's not gonna be $100/hour techs working on it, nor are the parts coming from some place like West Marine, lol.
That's all hand crafted stuff in that boat... Labor costs alone are doing to be stupid expensive. About the only thing in it that can be reused is the hull and top cap, and it will need to be completely stripped down and rebuilt.
I just don't see it being cost effective to do that amount of work to repair vs replace.
@@ericnoney3770 I totally see your point. The hull alone is a huge part of the value of the boat. Electronics and pumps can easily be replaced, and the engine gone through/rebuilt. Lots of labor yes, but definately cheaper than a new boat.
D. When I did light duty towing, I had a anchor specific for beach recovery. You push it in the sand by hand and then hooked a line to it to anchor your truck or have a different angle. But as you put more tension on the beach anchor the deeper it dug in the sand. Super effective and well worth to have on hand.
Hard to believe, all that prep and equipment, none thought to bring an air compressor. Even a standard compressor could provide enough air to fill air bags and not use to breathe. Glad it all worked out and enjoyed watching the adventure.
And didn't check comms before leaving dock.

When you sit back and take a look what Heavy D is responsible for creating it’s pretty amazing. I mean all the crew there. The paychecks, the equipment, a freaking boat recovery at 95ft down. Some people simply have the gift. And he’s doing all this shit while still kinda young, maybe young? It’s pretty cool, it’s actually really really cool. He and his buddy were put here to have fun and make money, lots of money baby!

Pack a Couple rule 12volt livewe'll baitwell or bilge pumps get @ least min of 2000gph pumps with extra ample amount of bilge hoses & hose clamps for the feeder sunction hose & discharge hose could of pumped pump ballast tanks out in a jiff?
Just saying when on the water may it be freshwater lake to the high seas? carry onboard every boat a loose bilge pump & or a baitwell pump free to deploy anywhere
Dont forget to extend the pump's power / gnd wires 10 - 15ft & heat shrink crimp alligator clamps on ends to clamp onto closest 12volt boat battery Their jack handy for a barrage of situations & they deliver!

12:37 That’s not what nitrogen narcosis is… What’s he’s describing is called Decompression sickness aka “the bends”. Even at 95 feet on air, you still have a 25 minute ‘no decompression limit’ meaning you can stay at that depth for up to 25 minutes and still be able to return to the surface without stopping. That’s plenty of time to attach lift bags. After that time is up, you will be required to do a “decompression stop” at a specific depth for a specific time in order to expel excess nitrogen from the body. (Tissues saturate with nitrogen when you breathe compressed air at depth) If you surface too quickly, the liquid nitrogen in your bloodstream expands into a gas, just like opening a bottle of soda. You have a computer telling you exactly what to do, it’s not like it just magically happens. If you get the bends it’s 100% your own fault. Nitrogen Narcosis is something totally different; Nitrogen actually has a narcotic effect at depth, they teach you something in class it’s something like every 10 feet deeper than 70 feet is like drinking a martini on an empty stomach. I’ve been 140 ft deep and even then only experienced very mild narcosis, basically makes you feel drunk. It’s not a for sure thing unless you go super deep. Nice video, but that guy is talking total nonsense lol… I don’t think I’ve ever heard an actual diver say something so inaccurate

For people that do so many recoveries, it pains me to see the absolute lack of safety when using such heavy-duty winches. Multiple people around a winch under massive tension with NO dampener is ridiculous. If that winch rope snaps say goodbye to your friends...
Yeah, I used to ride the towtruck with my pops when i was a kid. Never allowed near when he winched anything in
I couldn’t agree anymore! I was cringing the whole time, hoping that cable didn’t snap and take off a few legs!! 😬
That’s why we all switched to rope for winches on the side by sides. When they break they just go limp

I know a guy who watched his brother get decapitated by a snapped winch cable while off roading. He is a shadow of his former self now.

As a boat owner in Utah I’m glad to see you got your boat up. Besides the sentimental connections it’s great that you did this for the environment as well. Absolutely shocked about how smooth that went.
Next time put some rollers under it when you get it to shore. round wooden post would work well and be fairly cheap but they may float up anything round. Put the air bags underneath if possible lifting up. Maybe a large one just partially inflated would conform to the underside of the boat and help lift and cushion. Just ideas. Instead of anchors drive in some heavy thick rebar stakes at an angle with a sledge or in addition to the anchors.
Opps.. glad you guys are okay. It's just a boat it's fixable or replaceable. It's going to be a cool story for Parvati if you get it running again.

I’ve watched quite a few of his videos and he is a true family man anyone who thinks he’d put his family in danger are f***ing idiots. *ENOUGH SAID

Using the boat's nose racks, i'd build an gantry crane (like) attachment with an extra flotation tank some 2~3 meters ahead. This would be a bolt on deal that would allow you basically lift an item almost clean out of the water, where it's almost neutral and then re-rig such that in the case of a boat, it's pointing the right way and easy to transport (or a car, back on its wheels and so on) and bring to a place where you can tow it out. You could use another small aluminium boat, weld the top of that boat shut, fill it with close cell foam and build off it. The span between them is where you'd have the crane/winch and other attachment points. Could even have something like a platform. If you find a cheapy alu boat, it would work super easy and because it's a former boat, it wouldn't upset the hydrodynamics of the whole affair that much.
Dave goes - it wasn’t our fault nor was it the manufacturer’s fault. Yet SOMEONE is at fault. This boat was most likely a free demo or heavily discounted so he doesn’t want to make the manufacturer look bad.
This video seems so well thought out yet is missing so much information surrounding the reason for the boat sinking. I really hope he didn't sink a half a million dollar boat for content, because as a powerboat owner these things don't just happen "because the plug fell out." I have never in my life heard of a threaded plug mysteriously falling out.
The plug fell out, bilge pump fuse blown, and he was actively filling the ballast tanks without the knowledge of either of those things

Just wondering how your wife and kids are doing? That had to be pretty tragic to go through and as a mom of 5 and love boating at LP it’s my biggest fear I won’t have enough hands to help everyone. Hope they are doing well and glad to see you were able to recover your boat. Kind of amazing how it worked out.

People calling out insurance fraud have never owned a boat. A missing plug has sunk thousands of boats. By the time you realize it's missing you're already screwed and will most likely lose the boat, it's going to sink.
Putting a plastic drain plug on anything but a John boat is ridiculous. They didn’t forget, the used a plastic lynch pin where they should have used brass

Pretty crazy how many of these Pavatis sink. They only made 64 last year. I guess I now understand why all the major brands use threaded plugs too. I have forgotten a couple plugs in my day. Never seen the bilge pumps not keep up thats pretty scary or even blow a fuse. Wish Heavy D would get a Paragon or like M240. Night and day different in these boats vs Pavati boats. Pavatis seem cheaply built and obviously like to sink.
What kind of plugs do pavatis use?

hey, heavy D, would love if you got involved in the Kenny veach disappearance. his phone was discovered beside a mine near the nellis air base and nothing else has supposedly been known about his vanishing. would be cool if you guys could check that mine. I don't think anyone has yet
That whole story is as sketchy as Veach is/was himself. One only has to watch Veach's house selling/ self- promo video to see what an over thought scam can truely entail, ( House for sale with live- in houseboy/yardboy/interior decorator included in sale, meaning Veach himself,) Vegas has a way of altering some peoples minds & perception's of reality like no other place on earth. Definately watch his self promo video a couple of times before putting any boots on the ground & going down that dodgey rabbit hole..

A $400,000 boat with every creature comfort and feature imaginable... except a $3 buzzer to notify of a bilge pump or plug failure. Not to mention the fact that a boat like that has the exact same plug as my old aluminum fishing boat.

Well, first it needs a plug. Then new electronics and an engine will help too. But yes, you can make it work again. Pavati are strong boats

Holy smokes, with as many pumps you guys are rockin, should took 15 mins to float that boat. Love watching things like this. Super happy no one got hurt or injured when it went down. I've recovered many boats on Lake Powell. Power boats to houseboats.

what perfect conditions. famous youtuber takes brand new 400k boat out into deep water without a drain plug.. gets it all the way out into deep water before anyone notices.. said boat only has ONE bilge pump that just happens to fail... and he just happens to have all the cameras and everything needed and a whole team ready to hop on this "recovery" mission. So staged. so planned. so... wrong.

It's crazy you think by now they would have some type of warning when the plug is not in the hole or when the pumps aren't working. Glad you and your family are safe
It's scary but when your kids do exactly what you trained them to do without panic, you know they'll always be safe in the water.
So, teach your kids to swim, even if you don't live anywhere near large bodies of water, it could save their lives one day.
