  • A great way to learn the jazz language is to transcribe phrases from your favorite musicians, and transpose them into all keys. That will help you understand how to construct your own phrases with a natural flow. In this video we will take a look at a great starting phrase!

Hey Daniel! First of all thanks for your videos, I’m learning jazz maybe too late but I find your channel quite helpful so THANKS A LOT! I need some help, I’m looking for this mute J J Jhonson uses in his “Cry me a river” version but cannot figure out which one it is… could you please help me? Sorry for bothering…

Hello Saioa, I'm glad my videos are helping!
To me it sounds like he's using a cup mute - just as I'm using in this video. But where I have the bell of the mute pushed in all the way to give it a softer, more subdued sound, he has it more open.
On some brands you can adjust the bell and on others the bell is fixed in the most "open" position.

Yep. I was playing hangman with my younger cousin, I was guessing each letter in alphabetical order. A B C D E F G A, I was honestly confused for a second when she said I already said A because my mind resorted to the musical alphabet without me realizing, then I had to think of what comes after G
