Super jealous of Lincoln's Miskatonic hockey shirt

That is Miskatonic 2.0 from Geeky Jerseys. You can sign up for a notification if they do another run of them. I am too addicted to their jerseys. Thanks for the note and for watching-Lincoln

Lincoln said The Matrix, but the sliding garden part reminds me of the Jamiroquai Virtual Insanity music video! Nice playthrough as always.

Interesting game. Simple tile placement, a bit of a point salad scoring, but it seems simple enough to play.

    • @Syncopator
      @Syncopator 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Point salad scoring tends to be a fundamental feature of drafting games. The interesting feature here is that every tile can be utilized in that point salad in different and potentially multiple ways.

Seems like a good game, with some similarities to Kingdomino (drafting + tile laying). I think I like this a little better but given I already have Kingdomino, I'm not sure I need to have both. But the addition of the extra levels with the missions makes it pretty tempting. If I had this I'm not sure Kingdomino would hit the table again instead of this...

I think of Kingdomino as a lighter game which cannot be replaced by Zen Garden. I love and play both of them. :)

Ani, I see in the background you have a picture of Delicate Arch from Arches National Park! I'm from Utah, it's about 3 hours from where I live. Also, do I detect a Danish accent? Er du dansk?

With 2 players is there too little competition for tiles to make this engaging?

I've played the standard way and the variant with two players and I think both are great. -Lincoln

Thanks Lincoln. Just ordered Zen Garden. I was into heavy euros but these days I’m really enjoying, Copenhagen, Alhambra and other simpler games by Queen. Ordered Kokopelli, for instance.
Queen games just go down so smoothly.
I also have to commend your videos with Ani.
Along with you guys she’s also warm, and good humored.
It’s a joy watching the three of you play together. You comments are always great.

I think Lincoln should of won as attention to detail loses you 4 points if you get 1, I assume you lose those points if you get 0. And he had the most coins which is the tie breaker.
What I think is the mistake happens at 58:30.
Wait it is mention at 1:03:15 that forcing the other players to take one would of docked 4 points. That seems really silly in my opinion. You ignore the emperor's will and don't get punished but make a token effort and you do get punished, also I don't see a way for other players to effectively force you to take tiles so it's entirely on your own head for making that token effort.
While this is a criticism I'm focusing so much on it because the game is good and thematic, just this one rule is slightly off in my opinion.

Hi! I will explain the idea behind it. The game has many scoring options and all of them should be optional. As long as you don't have any corresponding element of "attention to detail" in your garden, then it doesn't affect you, (0 points). Eventually, if you decide, mid-game, to collect it once (even accidentally), then those -4 points are actually forcing you to dedicate yourself collecting more of these elements, (assuming there is enough time and opportunities to collect them). Players should take this decision. If from the beginning of the game, it would force players to collect them, then it would deprive them of choosing whatever they would like to build and most probably almost everyone would do it. Similarly, that's how it works with the coins which are also VPs; it's up to the players to decide if they want "to splash the cash" buying asap all cool tiles or just to risk by getting only the free ones.
Thank you for your concern! :)

Thinking more about it I think I might of been a bit too hard on it. I would like to see more games to see how "attention to detail" plays out in them though.
I'm worried it might be an objective that is too easy to decide on how to handle it, though again I should watch more games of it to find out.
