I always liked the books with the really long sections that take like half the book. For example Old School with half the book being Greg at camp. Or The Ugly Truth with the lock in story. Those have always been the most enjoyable parts of the books for me and I’ll go back just to read that part specifically Old school is my favorite one
Nah, imo nothing worth happens and I don't feel like it has a climax I think it'd have been way better if the intire story was set in Plainview as they try to deal with the internet and energy off and the situation envolce to smtg akin to Meltdown, or at least embrance a full XIXth century aesthetic
I like the getaway the most because how much the story changes slowly as they go from a mostly optimistic feeling of the resort they reside at to a feeling of wanting to escape.
I love the arc in Old School with the monster whose name I can't remember. Especially the way it ended. ⚠️MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW⚠️ Frank made the whole thing up, which seems out of character, but when he explains himself, it's perfectly in character. EDIT: His name was Silas Scratch

The third book wasn't really skipped in the movies. Rather, it was truncated to fit into parts of the second and third live-action movie adaptations, especially the third one as that was the announcement when it was called "Dog Days" to fit with the summer theme but it also focuses especially on the relationship between Greg and his Dad as explored mostly in the third book, but in the movie it blends in perfectly with the summer theme as well as seeing a lot of Rowley and his Dad.
I’m of the opinion that doing that was for the best. Dog Days is kinda just a summer version of the first book so adding in the father-son elements of last straw helps it out tremendously while also giving a more conclusive arc to Greg and Frank’s relationship.
double down is personally my favorite, because i play french horn and greg plays the french horn in the book. french horn is an underrated instrument and im glad its showed in the book. 📯
Yeah, I play a lower-brass instrument as well. I just think that book was just too unorganised and the main storyline only happened at the end of the book. But hey, it's your opinion.
Wow getaway is already from 2017. I remember it coming out and buying it like it was yesterday. I always read the new diary of a wimpy kid books whenever they came out.

Imo the camping arc really shifted the plot focus and I can how see it how it fits the theme but I feel like it'd fit way better in The Last Straw, The Getaway or even Dogs Day with their summer/vacation thematics,SPECIALLY giving how it is quite overused by now

Idk why but the ones with the storylines have always been my favorite ugly truths lock in, old schools hardscrabble farms featuring Silas scratch and of course meltdowns epic snowball fight
Awesome Friendly Adventure is one of my favorites not because I like Rowley it's because the concept is amazing. It's about how hard it is to write a book when there's an editor behind your ear telling what you should and should not do. So you need to be creative to make a story where you can have your vision at the same time you keep it within the limits imposed to you by the editor and sometimes this leaves you with a better story because sometimes the editor has a better idea than yourself that improves your own vision. I never thought Wimpy Kid would get so meta but they did it and I love it
