  • A predecessor to Future is Wild, taken from the book After Man by Dougal Dixon. Apparently patched together with 'new' footage as well as clips from various other documentaries, this Japanese show includes footage of stop-motion/puppet creatures as well as of Dixon himself.

    This is the coolest Japanese show I've ever seen. Anyway, I wished that all species shown in this show were all real and live alongside our animals like elephants, bears, and all animals we have here on Earth in real life. :)

    I'd really like to thank you for uploading this., I had read somewhere that creatures were being built for a TV thing, but hadn't heard or read another thing after that. This was in, I think, the late Eighties? But it DOES exist, and here it is. If I knew Japanese I'd offer to subtitle it for you.

    possibly, but some of 'After Man's' zoological ideas are fairly implausible. The the whole idea of the Carnivora family dieing out/being out competed is not very logical. Carnivorous rodents is even worse. All times in prehistory rodents show the trend of increased size resulting in a herbivorous diet

    • @jameswolf4894
      @jameswolf4894 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's happened before though. Creodonts were replaced by carnivora and so on another group of carnivorous mammals might take their place.

    • @sporeham1674
      @sporeham1674 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know where this idea of rodents being herbivores came from. I own two pet rats, and both are 100% capable of consuming meat without getting ill.

    • @Tarbtano
      @Tarbtano 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sporeham1674 Rats aren't indicative of all rodents. They can function find eating meat, but rodent adaptations such as their hip design, plantigrade feet, and constantly growing incisors and grinding molars aren't suitable as a predator. It work as a small predator or scavenger, but when you make that animal very big those traits are far more suitable for a herbivore.
      This is why all the omnivorous or carnivorous rodents are very small, but all of the largest rodents like the capybara are almost exclusively herbivores.

    • @Tarbtano
      @Tarbtano 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jameswolf4894 Creodonts were far less specialized to being pursuit predators than Carnivorans were and died out from other factors as well as competition. Basically put, Carnivorans are too diverse and too adept at being predators for anything to superseded them. Carnivorans are too diverse to realistically totally die out. If somehow, all cats died out (extremely implausible as that is as even if the pantherines died out the felines would replace them as the puma did), the civits, weasels, canines, and others are far more suited to replace them than a non-carnivoran.
