- "When I'm about to train a new opera, I first listen to how Jussi Björling did it. His voice was unique and it's his path that I want to follow. I would more than anything else wish that people compared me with Jussi Björling. It's like so I'm striving to sing." - Luciano Pavarotti

Pavarotti said so many very nice things about Jussi. One of my favorites is "There is a Pavarotti born every decade, and a Jussi every century".
This is possibly the best rendition of “Oh Holy Night” ever made.
In an interview with Pavarotti the reporter compared him with Jussi , Pavarotti answer was... -Pleas I am just human....
It's quite traditional for many people here in Sweden to listen to Jussi before Christmas. Then we all know its Christmas.
Thank you very much for taking to our suggestions to listening to him. Not many outside the classical genre knows about him. This is one of the most played songs in my home during Christmas.
Jaså, har Tommys stora fan hittat hit :)
Nr. 1 Jussi
Nr. 2. Tommy K
Nr. 3 Tommy J
👍😊
What an Amazing Voice by the Immortal Jussi Bjorling.! 👍👏👏👏🇸🇪...
The trouble every Swedish singer get when they try to record this song is that they ALWAYS get compared to this.
For sure. Swedish or non Swedish, Jussis version cannot be surpassed. And everyone knows it of course.
Yea but Tommy Körberg makes a nice version also.
Then, if you’re a woman at least you get compared to Jenny Lind. Come one! This is not fair.
@@johankaewberg8162 Since Jenny Lind has no recordings it hart to compare. But I guess opera singers doing Turandot might feel intimidated by Birgit Nilsson.
@@740414daan lot of persons do nice versions. But not near the feeling in Jussis performance.
Totally amazing, as always with Jussi!! 😍I love Pav, and Jussi - two of the best ever! They reach the listener, reaches through..... Thanks guys!
Our pleasure!
What a voice! I can't believe I hadn't heard of him until recently.
Not swedish but also a great singer is Fritz Wunderlich (he too died very young). And he was german - like the swedish Queen.
He was imo the best tenor ever, I'd even put him (slightly) above Caruso. They say that once journalist, when interviewing Pavarotti, compared him to Björling and Pavarotti said: "please, I'm only human". Listen to his performance of E Lucevan Le Stelle, gives me shivers every time
@@marinamucic908Will do. I used to listen to Mario Lanza and Peter Hoffman in former days, then Fritz Wunderlich and - almost forgotten - Josef Schmidt. Jussi really has an extraordinary expression in his voice.
@@marinamucic908Oddly Joseph Schmidt is titled an Austrian Opera Singer - though born in Ukraine and died in Switzerland - quite international
Scandalous! The scurge of the modern age
Jussi's voice was unique. It's like listening to the male version of Maria Callas. No need to think of technique. Just open oneself to being serenaded. Even Pavarotti doesn't have the polish of Bjorling's voice. He's just thrilling.
Agree completely. Björling and Callas is the ultimate duo to me. Perfection and emotion that no one else can deliver on the operatic scene.
@@stege9979 I once read that the British magazine Gramophone in 2000 had a vote among its readers who was the best opera singer in the 20:th century. Callas won and Björling came second. But they also had a vote among professional critics/reviewers, and then Björling came first and Callas second. So you are definitely not alone in your preferences!
I have to disagree there. Callas and Björling were each other’s opposites. Björling har technical perfection in his voice and absolute beauty, while Callas was highly emotional and expressive, leaving the audience in tears, but often not very precise. I love them both!
Greetings from Sweden
@@MartenHemstrom For each opera performer, I determine a degree of trust; trust that they will be flawless and on key; trust they will project so I need not strain; trust they will be clear and respect the peculiarities of the language in which they perform. I view it as us in a canoe, them serenading and me relaxed without defenses, excited to be on a magical ride, feeling frisson in my being, and deeply appreciative after the ride is over.
Definitely the best Version By an Astronomical Mile!!! Bravo for your Reactions.👍👏👏👏🇸🇪🇮🇪...
Thank you! 😃
thank You for this 🙏🏻 Do Jussi Björling Ack Värmland, Du Sköna Next 👏🏻
This is my favourite christmas song. If I find myself completely lacking in Christmas spirit, I put on this song, and problem solved.
Jussi viewed the voice as a wheel that has no break from the top to the bottom. MAGIC, EUPHORIA! THANKS.
His voice is so Powerful and Dulcet. This is my favourite version of this Christmas song. Great Reactions, Guys.👏👏👏👍🇮🇪🇸🇪...
Thank you!
@@MaxSujyNorden yous are welcome. I'm Glad you both reacted to my favourite Tenor . IMO no other version can top this,! Unbelievable Voice, great reactions from you both.👍👏👏👏🇮🇪🇸🇪🇺🇸...
Great reaction! Jussi's Nessun Dorma, the best! (Apologies to Pavarotti.) Ack Värmeland Du Sköna, The Pearl Fishers duet with Robert Merrill and Song of India are fantastic. The widow of the great Italian tenor, Enrico Caruso gave Caruso's opera costumes to Bjorling, telling Bjorling that he was the only one who could wear Caruso's mantle. There are many great tenors and I love them but Jussi has, besides his beautiful voice and impeccable technique, something that pierces straight into the heart. I look forward to hearing your reactions to more of his wonderful singing! All the best to you in 2024! The costumes he is wearing in various photos are from the many roles he sang at the Metropolitan Opera and other Great opera houses around the world.
Thank you and happy new year!
👏👏😍 ”Ack Värmeland du sköna” and ”Till havs” are, besides the one you just listened to, the songs that he is most famous for in Sweden and both of them are great😊
Thank! I'll check them out!
What about Midsommarnätterna? Jag minns inte namnet
@@mimfi Sommarnatt or Midsommarnätter, I've seen both titles.
I listen to this every day 🥹… what a beautiful voice 😍
Jussi💛💙🇸🇪
Best tenor ever ❤
The richness of his voice and his fantastic interpretation are both unmatched since recording technology was invented. Absolutely unparallelled!
It's "The Incomparable Jussi Björling", to be completely correct...
Jussi Björling is my friend's grandfather, her father was also a great opera singer
Nr 1 for sure!❤
Ningún tenor pudo igualar esta versión del gran Bjorling. Su voz es la más hermosa tenor que ha existido. No tengo la más mínima duda. Amén de una técnica inmaculada, única.
Im a swede but we never listened to Jussi during Christmas when I grew up. Its only now I've started playing it for the holidays.
He was an opera singer. He sang opera IN operas, as a character in the opera (or the play, in layman's terms) hence the costumes. He sang the song as it was intended to be sung. The light and dark - or intonations as you call it - is expression. It's how a singer makes you feel something. And remember, he was a real singer, not one of the machine-altered fluff we get these days, who couldn't hold a note if it was on a Post-It.
The Primo Tenore of all times!
so good !!!!
this song is so classic
🌹🌹👏Next. Una fortiva lagrima by Jussi Björling pls,
Goosebumps!
Swede here helping the world in whatever case,
The unique voice of unshed tears
Greatest of all time in my opinion... 👍
The GOAT, Björling.
What a beautiful voice .
He was not tall. Somewhere I have read 169-170 cm.
If U like this then I recommend you to listen to the Pearl fishers duet…
He had a huge chest so great breath control like Pavaroti Gigli Caruso
If you look at Jussi's face, you can see a great resemblance to the German (Nasa) rocket genius Von Braun🙂😊
He was an Opera singer but sang other songs too
❤️🇸🇪♥️🇮🇹❤️!
Since you have reacted to several Swedish singers performing this song now I would highly recommend checking out Norwegian soprano Sissel Kyrkjebo, too. My personal favorite version is from an album she recorded when she was quite young (th-cam.com/video/_Z0XoS2LJQs/w-d-xo.html) but there is also a newer, filmed live recording that is fantastic (th-cam.com/video/PK-NZc4O6mA/w-d-xo.html).
We reacted to Pie Jesu and Adagio. We will publish later this week
Best male version❤ now u should do best female version -Sissel Kyrkjebø❤
Listen to jussie björnling ack värmeland du sköna! Please. HENRIK.. IS BEST ISUPOSE!
You two are hilarious. People who aren't used to listening to opera singers are so amazed by them because commercial music today is full of mediocre singers with small voices manipulated by microphones, Autotune, and the like. Opera singing is the glorification of the voice.
❤❤🌹
react to sime Lucia songs (our songs we all play on lucia)
He was on hospital manus times for heart problem
Can you react to All Last Places of Eurovision?
He´s also musical theater? Opera IS musical theater.
No, not always. I meant that in the sense of performing in a musical theater play.
Jussi was only 5’ 5 1/2” tall
Woah! Almost Sujy height!
Samhall?
Swedes on average are very tall.
Around 6 feet.
(Globally, only about 14% of people are over 6 feet)
I think only Dutch people are taller.
So there is a good chance Jussi was pretty tall, at least compared to the global average.
I'm close to 6'1.
My Dutch coloc is around 5'9. I make fun of him for being a Dutch midget, haha!
Most tenors are short.
He drank to much, so even if he wasn't big. He's living took it's toll of his body and heart. My mother told me when she and here father was watching him in Gothenburg , he was drunk and couldn't stand, so he leaned against the piano.
You are a very cute couple! Very good reactions! I love Jussi so much. My grandfather listened to this song every Christmans Eve and I do this still to honor him and my sweet grandmother of course. They loved each other so much, they had been together since they were 16 and 18 I think, and when my grandmother became ill of dementia and died my grandfather followed her in just a week. They died 89 and 91 years old. Pure love. 💞 I love you grandpa and grandpa!
Can you please react to Benjamin Ingrosso and Thomas duette? It is so beauttiful!
th-cam.com/video/ALI_p2SDLIM/w-d-xo.html
U need better headphones! 😂
He was an opera singer! In opera singers dress up as their role. How come you don't know that ? There is no performace videos of Jussi. No he wasn't a tall man, nobody describes him as being tall.
Jussi was neither tall nor thick.
so u think this happend by a accident?????just listened to ur comments,,,,its almost an insult to jussi....have a nice day
Jussi was an alcoholic and a diabetic that didn't take care of himself. Of course this lead to that he died way sooner than he should. Still he's unmatched.
Oh, c'mon... admit that Axel Rose is the greatest ever!!!
;-)
Ah jussi Björling a great singer but he was apparently kind of a ahole(which really disappointed me when i found out) . My step grandmothers friend or the friends mom(cant remember) was his maid and....well...sadly he was not very nice(to put it lightly)
Yes, "a great singer"... I suppose being the greatest lirico spinto tenor of all time does indeed qualify for "a great singer".
@thomassicard3733 look up the definition of great, here I'll help
1.of an extent, amount, or intensity considerably above average.
2.of ability, quality, or eminence considerably above average.
3.an important or distinguished person.
"the Beatles, Bob Dylan, all the greats"
Hope that helps
a-hole? i've heard the exact opposite.
Genius people devoted to art often tend to fail in family life. They're successful in arts and become famous but often fails in their social life..
