    This is my absolute favorite of all the cars in the brothers collection. Was a toss up between this and the black 69 hemi charger but this got the nod being a 4 speed car

    HEMI Charger, on point!! Love it, thnx for posting this one. ..my uncle had a '69 Coronet w/white interior in this turq. gorguus paint color, 383 mag 4spd. Smh, amazing.

    They made 17,500 R/T optioned Chargers in 1968,out of 96,000 overall built that year...475 of them were Hemi powered...So that makes this car VERY rare.

    • @user-eu9ub8kj9j

      Only 211 were 4 speeds

    • @soxfunny98

      The 211 was amazingly rare but add in that color with no stripe kit and power windows. 1 of 1

      Hemi chrysler Dissecting it to the Nth degree is silly. 1 of 1 to be true but hardly worth an extra $150k on auction day since it's not like a convertible Hemi 'cuda regarding rareness is it?

    i always looked to the 69 as the best Charger but after seeing many videos and pictures it seems the 68 is better looking especially the front headlight

  • @timhammett2302

    Wow! What an absolutely gorgeous car. I would have to say though that whomever it was that ordered the car, checked off: Hemi, 4 Spd, power windows, Oh,.. let's do an R/T package would not have ordered it with dog dish hub caps. They would have checked off Wire Wheel Covers or something else fancy. Maybe not as 'cool' for today's buyers, but that's what would have happened.
    Drives me nuts when I see so many cars restored today (especially 50's cars) and they put fender skirts and (really?) Continental Kits. Sure some people ordered their cars like that, but you almost never saw one.

    C/D as well as most magazines back then ran the tests on stock factory tires. 13.5 in the 1/4 mi is very impressive on those skinny tires as they burned rubber all through first gear.See......th-cam.com/video/wLX1h6jvWYs/w-d-xo.html

    beautiful car!! i love the plane jane looking sleepers. that's probably why i look down on the mustangs, seems like they are all show and not enough go. no shortage of "go" in this show though! makes me want to see another ZL1 camaro!

      hey eric. I have 3 mustangs 2 gts and one cobra and believe me they have plenty of gooooo.

    • @livewire2759
      @livewire2759 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      plenty for you maybe, but if i could afford all those cars, i would buy 1 hemi 'cuda to beat the 'stangs, and 1 L88 vette to beat the gt's and the cobra, and yes they would beat them and look better doing it.
      yeah, i know those 2 cars cost more than all six of yours, but why do you think that is? just sayin'...

    • @stripervince1
      @stripervince1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Eric Kaiser my supercharged cobra would leave that hemi in the weeds. with the air conditioner on. however...would I rather have the hemi charger...yeah. 2 different animals. my cobra is worth $15k. the charger is probably worth $100k. maybe more being.one of a kind

    • @livewire2759
      @livewire2759 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      a factory supercharged cobra? i don't think so, i could supercharge a hemi too and leave your cobra in the weeds, you can't compare factory cars to custom jobs, you can't compare sports cars to sport compacts (pony cars), and you can't compare sport compacts to midsize muscle cars. those are typical ford guy tricks, (i know some chevy and mopar guys do it too) ford made some damn nice cars, but i'm sick of their owners always bending the rules to make them look better. mustangs always get compared to chevelles and gto's, or chargers and roadrunners. yeah the 'stangs are faster because they are smaller and lighter. the midsize torino's were only competitive in nascar, and the engines they ran in nascar were only put in mustangs! the gt's and cobras were factory built road course race cars and were the only american competitors of the corvette, but where the vette was always meant to be a sports car, you still can't really compare them in factory form. mustangs should only be compared to other sport compacts (2-door, 4-seat only, no 4-door options and no 2-seaters) like the camaro, firebird, challenger, 'cuda (71-74), and the javelin.

    • @GlassTopRX7
      @GlassTopRX7 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      A stock 2016 Mustang gt would smoke this thing with ease and they aren't much lighter either at 3800lbs Even with modern rubber those cars don't often run better than low 13's stock.

And there she goes in a cloud of Goodyear vapor,spectacular! Thanks again guys! ▪☆☆☆▪

    Re air cond on Hemi cars, the Monteverdi that had a 426 Hemi could also have air cond. I've seen a picture of Hemi with the Chrysler RV-2 air cond compressor on one and not some aftermarket compressor.
    Since seeing that photo I've always wondered, if a Hemi with aircond can be shoe horned into a Monteverdi, then the comparatively cavernous engine bay of all Mopar muscle cars (barring perhaps an A body which didn't have a factory OEM Hemi for the street anyway) shouldn't really preclude air cond??
    I think its more the weight factor of the already very heavy Hemi over the front axle coming into play here rather than space for bracketry.
    Those RV-2 are also very heavy then there's the condenser and drier etc.

    • @culcune
      @culcune 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Back then, one could get away with things if one was in the know. Monteverdi was a luxury/sport car, vs. factory Hemi cars which were meant for racing. But I am guessing someone who was either a dealership owner or a friend of the owner, or a Chrysler exec, could have figured out a way to get air conditioning onto a Hemi car from either the dealership or factory. There might have been other loopholes, but those two theories are the only ones I can think of. Oh, I do recall reading about two factory Hemi 4-door cars out there, so air conditioning on a handful of Hemi cars wouldn't be a stretch.

    • @eurekasevenwave2297
      @eurekasevenwave2297 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've heard stories that you could order A/C on a HEMI as a dealer option, but it was incredibly expensive so no one did it. Definitely got me curious though - I can actually believe A/C just wouldn't be possible, the RV2 is big (I have a 68 Newport that has one, the compressor itself and the mounting brackets are an engine-clogging nightmare), and the air cleaner on the HEMI is gigantic. Can't see a good way to make it fit with that, maybe you could but it'd have really tight clearance.

    • @eurekasevenwave2297
      @eurekasevenwave2297 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually did some digging, a user on the board.moparts.org forum actually did install A/C on a car with the shaker air cleaner and hood - he had to cut some of the air cleaner metal off, but it does clear. Interesting. Maybe if I ever get a HEMI car I will have to do this!

    Some thing simply become CLASSIC DESIGN it doesnt necessarily relate to cars, could be anything and yes classic is subjective so what i say is classic may not be everybody elses.
    To be some examples of timeless classic designs are, the fender Jazz Bass, a Porche 911, a 1960s Jaguar and surely the 68 charger.
    The sad thing today is all the cars seem to look the same, there doesnt seem to be any family dna left.
    Look at a Jag or a Merc and the only way known the make is by the badge.

    Imagine seeing this in Bullitt

    • @culcune
      @culcune 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Bullitt car wasn't much different other than engine. I recall seeing the bad-guy driver shifting gears, like McQueen in his Mustang. I do recall an article way back in the 90s claiming the Charger was Hemi-powered and the (modified 390) Mustang had a difficult time keeping up; Later articles clarified that the Charger was a 440 beast, but if you watch the chase over and over, you CAN see parts where the Mustang could not keep up, and the Charger was pulling away. The part where the Charger came down that one sweeping left downhill, while it was scraping along the cement wall, and the street opened up into a long downhill straightaway, the Charger was easily losing McQueen and his Mustang.

    I agree. I have a 97 supercharged 281 smallblock cobra that melts the tires at 40 mph. it would eat the charger. it was a classic and beautiful and collectible and worth 10x what mine is worth, no doubt. those muscle cars were fast for their day.today a mini van or a maxda 3 would do 13 sec quarter mile time.

      At night people would have a hard time seeing the small HEMI plate on the door and just assume it's a 318 automatic as family car .
      That image quickly dies when you hear the shift into 2nd and the tires break traction again while you also hear a distant chirp as the car goes into 3rd .
      In the Spring of 1968 i was walking to school on my normal route , then I saw a Challenger from the rear and when i got to the front to see that full-width grille with hidden lights it became the coolest car in the neighbourhood plus had a cool FUEL filler cap .
      It was just like the one used it the magazine ads that was Green with the black roof and black interior but no rear stripe . You could smell all the plastics and rubber parts that were fresh from the factory.
      The car looked mean and I remember the detail put into those rear lights
      and the built-in duck tail rear end .

      stripervince1
      Wow you're pretty stupid , i often mix up the Charger with the Challenger as did Jay Leno in one of his Vidoes. Any astute person with an IQ over 100 would have noticed the 1970 Challenger didn't have the Duck-tail rear or the fuel filler cap on top of the fender.
      How sad, I stand corrected and admit I mixed up the cars which is because I'm open to changing....but you sir will wake up in 30 years and be the same low IQ a-hole you are today.
