everybody who plays piano knows how difficult it is to play orchestral parts on it. So I admire the pianist who memorise Vivaldi's "Summer" - big BRAVO. But so I admire the young Lady too, who plays the Violin Solo-Part with enthusiasm and good performance. Good luck for your studies further on.
Why are orchestral parts difficult?Seems to me like at least a good amount are relatively easy since ethey are jjst a lot fo static chords or chords progressions right? Just maube when they are fast chord progressions or arpeggios like some here I can see them being hard..or am I missing something?
Classical music, for me, is one of those things where listening on the radio is barely tolerable, but hearing and seeing it live is amazing. And seeing it bring people together, if only for a brief moment, is a wonderful thing. 👏👏👏
because of "seeing it" aspect I like sitting on the balcony in my local Opera House - I can see not only what's happening on the scene, but also how orchestra plays ♥
As a pianist, to do that off the top of my head with no music, when I wasn't prepared to play it that day... Very impressive and absolutely no way I'd have been able to remember the orchestral version without the music 😂 The young lady also played so beautifully with so much passion, both stunning musicians 💖
I'm 76 now, and I can't imagine what my life would have been like without the music of Antonio Vivaldi. His "Four Seasons" led me into the world of classical music when I was 13, and I've remained a fan of the genre ever since.
Just turned 76 and when I was 13 and pronounced "terminal" an aunty lent me a record player with a single LP.... the Mendelsohn Violin Concerto. Hated it but on the 4th bored listening was transported to the world of classical music and it has sustained me ever since.

When it was played one Sunday morning on New York City's classical music station WNCN, the radio studio's switchboard lit up like a Christmas tree, everyone demanding to know what this wonderful music was. Nothing the radio station played had ever caused such a commotion then or since.
No joke at all. And that triggered my thinking that it is impossible for this video to have been improvised. I could be wrong but would need 3rd party witnesses to convince me. Still, it's well played and was nice entertainment.

@@hb1338 - I know those too and as I implied, it's my prejudice. In part caused by improvisation in classical (in a broad sense) music education having about completely lost in the past 100 years or so. A couple folk in YouTune might be able to pull this of: pianist Frank Tedesco and violinist Rob Landes - and they are significantly older than these two in this video (both have a degree from a good conservatory / music school).
The liveliness and noise of a Viennese salon is the best venue for this sort of performance. The audience are not afraid to show their appreciation while the music is playing. There are no tut-tuts and hushes, and the musicians love the instant feedback. As one who regularly attends chamber concerts sitting uncomfortably upright in silence I can honestly say this mall performance is much more fun. It’s just a pity the sound and image quality here are so poor for the video audience. It does the artists a disservice.
Yes, I absolutely agree. One of my most wonderful experiences was a classical string quartett playing at the underground platform during the morning rushour in Berlin ❤ I was blown away...
I'd almost agree, but this is way too self absorbed. They obviously staged this, just for tiktok clout. I think musicians should make music too give their audience a great time, and not to get lots of clicks on social media
Too often in modern urban society, instead of in fine restaurants the only place one can hear great classical and jazz music is in subway's, malls and other places where people do not tend to linger very long. I first began traveling to Moscow in 1996 in for a couple of years after that almost every good restaurant there had live classical and jazz musicians. But by 2000 most of them had been replaced by canned music, usually some form of rock music. And unless one specifically went to a concert at a event center, the only place one could hear this sort of music in the small scale, was in subway stations. And when I pass them on my way somewhere else, even went on the move, I always reached into my pocket and put money into their instrument cases, or coffee cans. I have not been to Russia since 2016, but have been to other places and it seems that there are fewer musicians in the various subway stations in various cities I have been to. I live in Phoenix and can't remember the last street musician I ever saw here who was playing classical music, even when the weather is very pleasant and not too hot. So I go to the Phoenix symphony, or other classical or jazz venues to hear this kind of music live now. But of course then I have to pay for the venue, pay for the parking, etcetera....🙄 I liked it better when all the money I tossed in the musicians collection point I knew was going to the musicians playing the music....

Aurélien, I love how at 1:15 you describe Four Seasons as "world famous for eternity". That is so true. Vivaldi composed that piece three hundred years ago, and it still is as powerful today as it was back then. I love to imagine that in 600 or 6,000 years a young pianist and a violinist will randomly meet on the moon or a space station and move everyone around them to tears with this wonderful music.
In fact, that piece is more popular today than it was 300 years ago. Vivaldi died regarded as a failure of his time and his music was resurrected and made popular much later.

@@hb1338 I know. This kind of performance needs preparation and practice together. The musicians need to agree in advance on cues, rests, etc. The idea that this was spontaneous is cute, but impossible.
The self-imposed discipline, the hour and hours of labor to be able to make an instrument sound like that.....two young people leading by example. A true breath of fresh air; and a tip of the hat and salute to you both. Wish we had a million more just like you....
@@danawinsor1380 yeah, but it dont pay anything. i learned two instruments in my lifetime when i was in high school. then i forgot how to play them because money and life were a wakeup call. i needed to finish my engineering degree and start a family. playtime was over.
The professionalism needed for two people to come together with absolutely NO knowledge of the other’s musical habits etc. and play a piece of that difficulty with such perfection is stunning. Fabulous job.

Happens a lot in films too about musicians where theres like an epiphany moment when they write a song, when realistically its rarely like that. Its worked at as a craft like any other skill.

@Lizard People it's not a shopping mall but St Pancras International train station in London. Yes, there is a piano in the train station and it is not unusual for a musician to travel with the instrument you play
Regardless if this was rehearsed or not it was a brilliant performance by two amazingly gifted Musicians. Shut up, put the cell phone down and appreciate it for what it is. 😂 Musicianship of this level deserves great respect. I hate when I pay good money for a show and people in front of me have they're cell phones held up and talk through the whole performance. Learn to respect others. Why does everyone have to dissect and gossip about everything today. Love thy neighbor and love one another it's really simple.
I haven’t played for 35 years and at a young age I also loved classical as well as modern music. To see young people to have such passion for this music was beautiful and emotional for me. Bravo beautiful girl for that insane violin playing and Bravo to you young man for the fantastic piece and the video. I hope it inspires more people to get into this fine art.
It had me in tears, too. My sister was a concert pianist, and I miss her enormously. And the young lady playing the violin looked uncannily like a young friend of my wife whom we lost during COVID
Bach described him as playing the light and used his work for warming up. I get what he meant. Light and colour brought to life in sound. Bach did the same for passion for me.
Considering you had to on the spot remember a song you didn't intend on playing, this is even way, way more impressive. So glad you had this wonderful moment captured so beautifully on video.
I love watching random musicians share their talents to perform a masterpiece in busy places especially in train stations. Sometimes people tend to forget to slow things down and enjoy beauty. I commend those who stopped by to share their time to watch and listen to these great and talented musicians. They had a treat

When I was growing up, and it has been many years, any child over 5 would have made that same conclusion. Because it's that obvious. What happen to us? Why are we so dense?
I was holding my hand over my chest the whole time because it felt like my heart was going to jump right out of it. At the end I grabbed my entire head in disbelief at the perfection they treated the whole crowd to with zero prep together. Amazing artistic chemistry! Bravo!!!
Maybe. But as a violinist I have played with complete strangers I've met for the first time before as well so there's a chance its not staged. Plus, Vivaldi's Summer is like one of the first difficult pieces we ever learn so its very common for most classical musicians to be able to play it.
@@elainejohnson796 It is well-known for violin, but most pianists won't have the orchestral transcription to piano memorized. There is absolutely no reason why any pianist would memorize this as part of their repertoire because they will have no occasion to perform it. The video is staged.

I watched a video of the great Joshua Bell playing in a NY station and almost no one recognized him or stopped to hear him playing Bach. I spent a couple months in Leipzig, Germany, and you could hardly walk through Altstadt any time of day without hearing Bach and other great composers being performed by talented musicians, but here in the US people just don't seem to give a shit about classical music. That's really sad. Maybe we don't deserve the music. 😢 This was fantastic! Wonderful pianist who is absolutely adorable on top of his talent!
I think the reason is, because it is "the Old World" Music. We seldom hear Gershwin over here in Europe to that end. Moste Public Radio stations have Classic Sundays where you hear it played.
I don't think we get the exposure to it that many in other countries do. There was a class when I was at the university that many took to fulfill a fine arts requirment. Music Appreciation. It was amazing to see so many students deeply exposed to classical and love it.
This is the magic of music. Two people who throw away their differences and just make music together. Music has the power to bring people together-it’s a common joy for both musicians and listeners.

@@lesleyvivien2876 There's basically zero chance he just knew the accompaniment like that. Most of the time orchestral reductions involve decisions such as repeats and section cuts that there is no way of anticipating.

I'd say rehearsed by the way it went, but not even close to a professional performance. Which is fine: it wasn't supposed to be a professional performance. It was supposed to be "spontaneous" ;) :)

One leads (the violinist) and the other follows (the pianist). He has to listen really intently to accompany her well. But how he remembered all of that correctly without recently practicing it, and converting from orchestral parts too ... that's a lot of talent.
So happy to see our younger generations not only passionate about music, but classical music at that! It warms my heart to see this! Also the level of talent necessary for two musicians to play together for the first time a piece of that difficulty...Bravo!!! Very well done!!
Music is its own language that people who don't know one another can share. These two clearly speak this language at a very high level and gave a tremendous performance. To randomly meet and both know such an amazing piece by heart is just a gift for everyone around them.

The ability of music to bond. It was lovely seeing two musicians let the product of their skill, their craft flood the air. Knowing exactly what to play and when to play. The feeling of being able to make others feel is one I envy of musicians, you do your job so well.
That is every soloist's dream: the perfect accompanist! Pn a piece you weren't ready for, you still followed her tempo and dynamics exactly as she needed, even during those "memory fail" moments when you had to improvise some notes. Brilliant!
Playing ( knowing?) the orchestral part of any major piece of music on the piano without much advance notice is impressive. Playing with an unfamiliar soloist I believe shows a high level of musicianship on both your parts. Great job, thank you

Classical music has a universal appeal, even if it isn't "cool, trendy or so like now" to admit it. I was raised on cartoons scored with classical music, sat mesmerized in Humanities class and wore out cassette tapes, then CD's, of the masters. Now, I create my own "playlists" (pretty sick, right?) Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Debussy and all their buddies are right there, next to AC/DC, Bob Marley KISS, Alice in Chains, 80's Hair Bands, Prince, Metallica, Aerosmith, 50's Hits, 60's Rock and Classic Country. But no Disco...(just kidding, love me some Donna Summer) You know, all the stuff that makes a music appreciating life worth living. Lighten up, dude!
Well, yeah. Plenty of people might not know anything about classical music or choose to listen to it in their free time, which is what people who "don't like classical" typically mean by that. But a good energetic live performance can move almost anyone regardless of their usual tastes.
She got to pick the music. Presumably she had played it recently. He had to summon it from deeper in his memory, but kept up beautifully. She's so good. I wonder if she has a professional career, either with a symphony or as a soloist. Musical virtuosity and memory like this dazzle me. And Vivaldi is a stud!

Absolurely phenomenal!! I’m an (extremely) amateur violinist and pianist, and the thing about playing an instrument is, the more you know, the more you realize you don’t know. I could never dream of playing this well on either instrument. You are both extraordinarily talented! What a treat to listen to this
I had two sisters that played piano, one taught. Another sister teaches violin. I grew up with classical music. Thank you both for such a wonderful playing.

I don’t know how many times I seen this, but each time is better than the last. What I see is a group of performers not only dedicated to their work but dedicated to the honor of reproducing the work they’ve listed to in their past in for a group they truly honor! An excellent performance! I don’t know how many times I will return here…but I’m sure it will be a lot. Magnificent.
I used to hate classical music, I found it too restrictive and overrated compared to Jazz and other forms of instrumental music. But I have now developed a little taste for it. I'm a sucker for thick sounding string sections.

This has always been my favorite movement from the Four Seasons concertos. It gives me full body chills every single time! Such a rare occurrence for these two to meet and entertain this crowd. What a privilege it would have been to be there.
Last time I heard this piece was in the Französicher Kirche in Berlin's Gendarmenmarkt in 2019, with a small orchestral group of seven superbly talented musicians... this stunning duet is every bit as good. An exquisite rendition of a musically challenging piece. Both you and the young woman are exceptionally talented... I wish you both all the very best in the future... ;-).

I just bumped into this vid that day i commented... so to me, the POV of the vid might look that way. Means, 1st time watching a vid from the one who posted/the pianist. The Cameras to me, maybe it was just the piano guy planning to play, then she wanted to join, idk u know. 😅 But whether it's stage or by chance. Practice/rehearsed or not. They still did a very good job. 👍👍
It is amazing when two talents meet like this. They played so well its hard to believe it was not staged. Besides, look how many câmera angles and focus on details. It looks like there was a whole crew prepared to film the event. I don't want to diminish the performance. Rehearsed or not, it was fantastic. All that sequence of fast notes, all played in perfect synchronization. Congrats, you are the best.
They both post online (he’s on TikTok, she’s on Instagram). There’s a phone on either end of the piano that captures most of the footage. You can see him adjust the one on the left to capture her in the frame. There’s also a 3rd camera just on her from her backside, and a 4th one panning around getting crowd shots. It’s possible that, during the “a few moment later” that they might have asked someone to film those (kind of like how people ask nearby bystanders to take photographs for them).

Nope, he's playing that by ear cos he messes up a few times: not picking holes, just saying this is impromptu, it's raw and unrehearsed music is all the more charming when its raw and unrehearsed, that, right there is pure music. Also people claiming it was planned cos they were tuned together - the piano's in concert pitch and they get tuned fairly regularly otherwise they sound dreadful. And the Royal College of Music is a couple of stops away from St Pancras on the tube so she's probably fresh out of lectures / class / rehearsals - so the violin will have had no chance to go out of tune. As for other camera angles, other witnesses may well have contacted him afterwards with their copy of the performance. It doesn't feel staged to me, when they're staged it feels a lot more contrived.
Learning an instrument is one of the best choices you can make in life, honestly. There is just something about the act of making music WITH someone that really does dissolve barriers and create instant rapport between members of the fraternity. You don't have to be anywhere near this good to enjoy the benefits. Not only will you meet and interact people with whom you might not otherwise have had a common point of reference, but they tend to be interesting, intelligent and accomplished in their own way.
The young lady violinist performing alongside the talented male pianist is absolutely phenomenal. Her talent and beauty are truly remarkable, and they blend together in perfect harmony.

Listening to you and Ugne brought me to tears on the way to work - starting the day with music, passion, expressiveness, awe is really quite something. It's not only the actual music (which is absolutely breathtaking already) but watching you both play and put your everything into your craft and working together is an honour and inspiration.

The Four Seasons is definitely my favorite Vivaldi's piece, and what I like the most about this is not their musical abilities, but to be able to strike a harmonious duet without any practice. Amazing.

I'm 76 now, and I can't imagine what my life would have been like without the music of Antonio Vivaldi. His "Four Seasons" led me into the world of classical music when I was 13, and I've remained a fan of the genre ever since.
Just turned 76 and when I was 13 and pronounced "terminal" an aunty lent me a record player with a single LP.... the Mendelsohn Violin Concerto. Hated it but on the 4th bored listening was transported to the world of classical music and it has sustained me ever since.

@@hb1338 - I know those too and as I implied, it's my prejudice. In part caused by improvisation in classical (in a broad sense) music education having about completely lost in the past 100 years or so.
A couple folk in YouTune might be able to pull this of: pianist Frank Tedesco and violinist Rob Landes - and they are significantly older than these two in this video (both have a degree from a good conservatory / music school).
And THIS is how classical music is supposed to be enjoyed - out among people, in train stations, in parks, in the streets. Wonderful!
The liveliness and noise of a Viennese salon is the best venue for this sort of performance. The audience are not afraid to show their appreciation while the music is playing. There are no tut-tuts and hushes, and the musicians love the instant feedback.
As one who regularly attends chamber concerts sitting uncomfortably upright in silence I can honestly say this mall performance is much more fun. It’s just a pity the sound and image quality here are so poor for the video audience. It does the artists a disservice.

Too often in modern urban society, instead of in fine restaurants the only place one can hear great classical and jazz music is in subway's, malls and other places where people do not tend to linger very long. I first began traveling to Moscow in 1996 in for a couple of years after that almost every good restaurant there had live classical and jazz musicians. But by 2000 most of them had been replaced by canned music, usually some form of rock music. And unless one specifically went to a concert at a event center, the only place one could hear this sort of music in the small scale, was in subway stations. And when I pass them on my way somewhere else, even went on the move, I always reached into my pocket and put money into their instrument cases, or coffee cans. I have not been to Russia since 2016, but have been to other places and it seems that there are fewer musicians in the various subway stations in various cities I have been to. I live in Phoenix and can't remember the last street musician I ever saw here who was playing classical music, even when the weather is very pleasant and not too hot. So I go to the Phoenix symphony, or other classical or jazz venues to hear this kind of music live now. But of course then I have to pay for the venue, pay for the parking, etcetera....🙄 I liked it better when all the money I tossed in the musicians collection point I knew was going to the musicians playing the music....

Aurélien, I love how at 1:15 you describe Four Seasons as "world famous for eternity". That is so true. Vivaldi composed that piece three hundred years ago, and it still is as powerful today as it was back then. I love to imagine that in 600 or 6,000 years a young pianist and a violinist will randomly meet on the moon or a space station and move everyone around them to tears with this wonderful music.

In fact, that piece is more popular today than it was 300 years ago. Vivaldi died regarded as a failure of his time and his music was resurrected and made popular much later.

The self-imposed discipline, the hour and hours of labor to be able to make an instrument sound like that.....two young people leading by example. A true breath of fresh air; and a tip of the hat and salute to you both. Wish we had a million more just like you....

Musicianship of this level deserves great respect. I hate when I pay good money for a show and people in front of me have they're cell phones held up and talk through the whole performance. I haven’t played for 35 years and at a young age I also loved classical as well as modern music. To see young people to have such passion for this music was beautiful and emotional for me.

When I was growing up, and it has been many years, any child over 5 would have made that same conclusion. Because it's that obvious. What happen to us? Why are we so dense?
I was holding my hand over my chest the whole time because it felt like my heart was going to jump right out of it. At the end I grabbed my entire head in disbelief at the perfection they treated the whole crowd to with zero prep together. Amazing artistic chemistry! Bravo!!!

I watched a video of the great Joshua Bell playing in a NY station and almost no one recognized him or stopped to hear him playing Bach. I spent a couple months in Leipzig, Germany, and you could hardly walk through Altstadt any time of day without hearing Bach and other great composers being performed by talented musicians, but here in the US people just don't seem to give a shit about classical music. That's really sad. Maybe we don't deserve the music. 😢

I think the reason is, because it is "the Old World" Music. We seldom hear Gershwin over here in Europe to that end. Moste Public Radio stations have Classic Sundays where you hear it played.
I don't think we get the exposure to it that many in other countries do. There was a class when I was at the university that many took to fulfill a fine arts requirment. Music Appreciation. It was amazing to see so many students deeply exposed to classical and love it.

One leads (the violinist) and the other follows (the pianist). He has to listen really intently to accompany her well. But how he remembered all of that correctly without recently practicing it, and converting from orchestral parts too ... that's a lot of talent.

Music is its own language that people who don't know one another can share. These two clearly speak this language at a very high level and gave a tremendous performance. To randomly meet and both know such an amazing piece by heart is just a gift for everyone around them.

That is every soloist's dream: the perfect accompanist! Pn a piece you weren't ready for, you still followed her tempo and dynamics exactly as she needed, even during those "memory fail" moments when you had to improvise some notes. Brilliant!

Classical music has a universal appeal, even if it isn't "cool, trendy or so like now" to admit it. I was raised on cartoons scored with classical music, sat mesmerized in Humanities class and wore out cassette tapes, then CD's, of the masters. Now, I create my own "playlists" (pretty sick, right?) Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Debussy and all their buddies are right there, next to AC/DC, Bob Marley KISS, Alice in Chains, 80's Hair Bands, Prince, Metallica, Aerosmith, 50's Hits, 60's Rock and Classic Country. But no Disco...(just kidding, love me some Donna Summer) You know, all the stuff that makes a music appreciating life worth living.

I ❤ classical music! Of course, I started playing flute in 9th grade, and have played it ever since. (I’m 71!) (And I also taught myself folk guitar.)
Well, yeah. Plenty of people might not know anything about classical music or choose to listen to it in their free time, which is what people who "don't like classical" typically mean by that. But a good energetic live performance can move almost anyone regardless of their usual tastes.
She was honestly flawless. Impressive as hell for such a hard piece by memory.

I don’t know how many times I seen this, but each time is better than the last. What I see is a group of performers not only dedicated to their work but dedicated to the honor of reproducing the work they’ve listed to in their past in for a group they truly honor! An excellent performance! I don’t know how many times I will return here…but I’m sure it will be a lot. Magnificent.

I used to hate classical music, I found it too restrictive and overrated compared to Jazz and other forms of instrumental music. But I have now developed a little taste for it. I'm a sucker for thick sounding string sections.

This has always been my favorite movement from the Four Seasons concertos. It gives me full body chills every single time! Such a rare occurrence for these two to meet and entertain this crowd. What a privilege it would have been to be there.

Last time I heard this piece was in the Französicher Kirche in Berlin's Gendarmenmarkt in 2019, with a small orchestral group of seven superbly talented musicians... this stunning duet is every bit as good. An exquisite rendition of a musically challenging piece. Both you and the young woman are exceptionally talented... I wish you both all the very best in the future... ;-).

Complete strangers ? There are at least 3 POV cameras. Obviously, it was prepared. But they are both talented.
I just bumped into this vid that day i commented... so to me, the POV of the vid might look that way. Means, 1st time watching a vid from the one who posted/the pianist. The Cameras to me, maybe it was just the piano guy planning to play, then she wanted to join, idk u know. 😅 But whether it's stage or by chance. Practice/rehearsed or not. They still did a very good job. 👍👍
It is amazing when two talents meet like this. They played so well its hard to believe it was not staged. Besides, look how many câmera angles and focus on details. It looks like there was a whole crew prepared to film the event. I don't want to diminish the performance. Rehearsed or not, it was fantastic. All that sequence of fast notes, all played in perfect synchronization. Congrats, you are the best.
She must have tuned her violin to the piano before playing!
They both post online (he’s on TikTok, she’s on Instagram). There’s a phone on either end of the piano that captures most of the footage. You can see him adjust the one on the left to capture her in the frame. There’s also a 3rd camera just on her from her backside, and a 4th one panning around getting crowd shots. It’s possible that, during the “a few moment later” that they might have asked someone to film those (kind of like how people ask nearby bystanders to take photographs for them).

Nope, he's playing that by ear cos he messes up a few times: not picking holes, just saying this is impromptu, it's raw and unrehearsed music is all the more charming when its raw and unrehearsed, that, right there is pure music.
Also people claiming it was planned cos they were tuned together - the piano's in concert pitch and they get tuned fairly regularly otherwise they sound dreadful. And the Royal College of Music is a couple of stops away from St Pancras on the tube so she's probably fresh out of lectures / class / rehearsals - so the violin will have had no chance to go out of tune.
As for other camera angles, other witnesses may well have contacted him afterwards with their copy of the performance. It doesn't feel staged to me, when they're staged it feels a lot more contrived.
@@uptoeleven Also, it literally takes two seconds to tune the violin to the same pitch as the piano, if it even was out of tune.
Learning an instrument is one of the best choices you can make in life, honestly. There is just something about the act of making music WITH someone that really does dissolve barriers and create instant rapport between members of the fraternity. You don't have to be anywhere near this good to enjoy the benefits. Not only will you meet and interact people with whom you might not otherwise have had a common point of reference, but they tend to be interesting, intelligent and accomplished in their own way.
The young lady violinist performing alongside the talented male pianist is absolutely phenomenal. Her talent and beauty are truly remarkable, and they blend together in perfect harmony.

Listening to you and Ugne brought me to tears on the way to work - starting the day with music, passion, expressiveness, awe is really quite something. It's not only the actual music (which is absolutely breathtaking already) but watching you both play and put your everything into your craft and working together is an honour and inspiration.

The Four Seasons is definitely my favorite Vivaldi's piece, and what I like the most about this is not their musical abilities, but to be able to strike a harmonious duet without any practice. Amazing.
