    The awesome thing about your channel, is that you don’t discriminate any mineral formation. Most channels are.... agate... agate... jasper... And how about more agates???

      I enjoy finding all the minerals!

      Agreed! It's so much more exciting to explore all the minerals and the gifts of our planet. Honestly, I have always found agates and jasper on the boring side. That's not to say some don't catch my eye, e.g., bumble jasper, dragon bloodstone jasper, and dendritic agates. I still have an appreciation for all.

    That was cool. You have a pile of calcite crystals sitting beside the road. 😁Nice stuff.

      Also since this cut is so tall every winter more will be coming down.

    Nice job finding that road cut! Those are the kind of crystals I would love to find. Thanks for pointing out the safety concerns about parking and sticking to public land, and for showing Lake Roosevelt and a little about where the cement came from to build the Grand Coulee, super super fun video.

      I'm glad you liked the video, its a good road cut and pretty wide for walking but not wide enough to pull over at and not block the road. Its a really lovely area.

    There are really cool rocks around here. (I live in colville, 8 miles from kettle) You just have to know what you’re looking for. I’m still learning, but I’ve definitely found some neat places with amazing rocks within a 15-20 min drive from my house. Thank you for all your videos from around this area! So I recently learned calcite was used as a navigation tool thousands of years ago. I’m not sure exactly how it works but apparently due to its weird double refraction properties you can use it to pinpoint the location of the sun in the sky on cloudy days! Vikings used them on their ships and called them sun stones 👍🏼

    That is wild! I love calcite, the waxy, satiny feel of it makes me happy. It’s neat to see the different ways it appears to form. I would fill my pockets for sure. Now I know what to do with the canvas shot bags I found. Fill them with rocks! One of the reasons I follow your channel is that I relate to your appreciation of all the rocks and you don’t “follow the crowd”. You cut your own path and encourage everyone to look at what’s in front of them not just the popular locations that get picked over fast. Rockhounding should be an adventure, not yet another hobby bandwagon of conformity.

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Calcite is quite the mineral, I mean it comes in so many forms and colors it can be hard to really know what it is you're looking at sometimes.
      I appreciate you recognizing that in the channel. With over 4000 minerals in this world making up an even larger number of rocks how only be interested in a few?

      @@CurrentlyRockhounding I excelled in school when the subject was minerals and rocks. Unfortunately, none got down to the nitty-gritty (hey, that's kind of a pun) aka minutiae. Which can make identifying rocks in the wild a challenge. A challenge I relish.

    What a neat find..!! I live here in Arkansas where we have the beautiful Quartz Crystals in the Hot Springs area and which goes into eastern Oklahoma. The geology that formed that part of Arkansas and Oklahoma was very dynamic and varied. But we do not have the amazing geology of the Northwest U.S.
