I find myself going back over and over to watch past videos of your hunts and finds because I am fascinated with what you discover out there. It was always the best part of my time being able to get out alone and be out there in the world doing, what I always thought, something fulfilling for myself. I know that I told you once before about that sweet field that I discovered that was extremely rich in artifacts. That field is now a golf course and a resort but I still hunt it in my memories. Thanks for sharing all of your finds with everyone because I know everyone loves it as much as I do.
Well I appreciate you taking the time to check out the finds once again! The way I record my finds, quietly with nothing but the sounds of the birds, waves, etc.. I enjoy going back and watching my past finds without hearing myself in the background as well! Haha But yes, I just saw your comment moments ago about the honey hole turned golf course. That is a crying shame!
I appreciate it! The low setting sun definitely gave that piece some vibrance. I think a backlit frame full of some of my translucent pieces would look great in a dimly lit living room!

Awesome finds!!🎉 I love that first one! And your lucky turtle rock is a sweet find, very personalized indeed! Beautiful pot base also. Happy hunting! And take care.
Thank you! The first one did have quite fiery glow to it. The turtle rock, or loaf stone as everyone has been calling it, almost didn’t make it home! I almost didn’t even pick it up, but since I have a tendency to handle everything that looks out of place, I scored! Thats why it was already picked up once the video started rolling. Dude, thank you! I really appreciate the kind words. I try to keep bringing the good stuff to share, but I can only share it if I find it! Finding it is half the joy, being able to share it with everyone is a big part of it though. Thanks again!
Nice find! That one piece is not a turtle effigy but a tie on atl atl weight. Very nice find there!! My season is about to start. Always enjoy your vids!!
Thanks man! At first I thought it was a net weight that they had etched on to make it look like a turtle. Everyone including yourself are calling it a loaf stone / atlatl weight. So I’ll go with that now.., but I still think they etched it to look like a turtle shell! I get the line going down the middle had a purpose. To run whatever they lashed it with across… but the line that goes all the way around consistently parallel to the base makes it look just like a shell!
As much as I want to agree with an Atlatl Bar Weight, I believe it's a net weight over a bar weight. Mostly because the tie on spot is in the wrong direction for a bar weight. The bar weights I have seen have tie on spots going across the skinnier part of the weight rather than the entire length of it. I have a Type 2 museum quality atlatl bar weight I found a couple months ago. It doesn't have any tie on spots though. My fiancée has a smaller one almost identical to mine, but hers is flatter.
@Points365 I'd say get it authenticated by a reputable authenticator because it could be one or the other. When my fiancée Found her bar weight, we had an archaeologist tell us it was a celt. Took us a year of looking at celts to realize there were no celts that shape and size. So I researched other stone tools for about a week until I saw one on the Russell Cave Artifacts archive. Exactly like ours.
Still finding some nice one I see, that pottery base to a bowl was a cool find. Hurricane Helene should help the artifact hunters up the Mississippi and Ohio River valleys. Good luck hunting👍🏻
Man, I know! I was hoping more of that bowl would turn up. It’s crushed beyond recognition by now no doubt though. You’re speaking the truth on this hurricane though… it’s been raining nonstop here for about 18 hours. Hard rain too! I keep looking out my window at the field that’s been turned over, wondering what’s just laid out waiting to be picked up! Thanks as always buddy!
Thanks as always man! Ok, another vote for boat stone.. that makes it boat stone / loaf stone- 6, net weight- 4, a plain old rock- 1, a rock made to look like a turtle shell (me)- 1. Haha But seriously, thank you for the input as always buddy!
Great recoveries as always bud that one point is so used up they must have loved that one.. there's a show in Corinth Miss next weekend hope to see you there . Take care and God bless
Oh I know! I got a kick out of that one when I found it. No telling what kind of action that piece has seen! I just got back from FL yesterday. East coast, so I was clear of the hurricane. But next wknd I know where I’ll be… hunting for the first time in 2 weeks! All this rain we’ve had is gonna spit some goods out… I can just feel it! I looked it up though. It’s about 4 hours away from me. That would be quite a haul!
Its been a while don great finds im a little slow on commenting because of circumstances i was trapped at home all summer and naver got to hunt this year but happy new year from Colorado!
Glad to hear from you buddy! I hate to hear of your lockdown and hopefully you’re able to get out and about now…. Or at least when the weather permits!
That seems to be the consensus.. atlatl weight! The etching on it I think was definitely intentional to make it look like a turtle shell. I’m not sure how well that showed up in the video though. I appreciate the input buddy!
I love those pieces like the exhausted buck creek at 7:20! There’s no telling how much action that little piece has seen in its day… if only these pieces could speak! But I myself thought the turtle shell looking piece could be a net weight. Quite a few people on here have thought Loaf stone… which I can also see as a valid guess. I told someone else I’m just gonna call it a net loaf!😂 Thanks again and as always buddy. I hope catching up on the finds didn’t take up too much of your evening!
I’ve had a few people suggest that. Loaf stone they called it. As well as a few net weight suggestions. Not sure why but some people are having trouble seeing the turtle shell looks that I’m seeing. To me the line etched on it across the top prob had a meaningful purpose, for string or something.. but the line etched around the base at a consistent distance from the bottom seems like it’s just for looks, which looks just like a turtle shell to me! But I get not everyone sees the same thing when looking at a splotch of ink on paper! Haha Thanks as always buddy!
Like others have said it's a loaf stone. I belive they drilled a hole at each end of the atal-atal and brought hemp fibers or something similar through the holes and around the grove. I also think they then took wet rawhide and stretched it over the atal-atal and brought it down around the stone and laced it together. The tie on stone had to be absolutely unmovable so it wouldn't make noise hitting again the bottom of the atal-atal and would scare game before the dart reached the animal.
That was my thought at first. The majority of people on here seem to think loaf stone / atlatl weight. Whatever it is, I’m glad to have been the one to find it! When I first picked it up I just thought it was another rock! Thanks for taking the time to comment and check out the finds!
Thanks man! Depends on the conditions really. Typically around 4-6 trips (10ish hour days) will give me enough footage for a video. If I showed all the broken stuff I found, I could have a 30 min video in a day or two! SO much broken stuff! I appreciate you checking out the finds
I find that to be the case at a lot of places I hunt. The time period of occupation seems to span over different time periods. Must’ve been some good hunting or something around there! Thanks as always buddy!
As always good stuff. What do youth k item T 10.25 was? A weight for net? That last Kirk was interesting. Not much in way of serrations or tip. Wonder if just didn’t finish it. Be safe and keep at it.
Thanks man! That piece definitely has a net weight look to it. Someone else mentioned an atlatl weight… I’m guessing like a loaf stone. I haven’t a clue really. You know how it goes. 3 people will have 3 different opinions in a piece! Where I found that last one you mentioned, that seems to be the way all the artifacts I find in that particular spot are. Having that look as if they weren’t quite finished with it or something. Hardly ever any serrations on them either. Old stuff though! Thanks again!
You found some nice points, several points with the bases snapped off, a loaf (or boat) stone, and a hemispherical chert nodule. The pot base was unusual. The black flint points looked like they were made from Coshecton black flint, although most all black materials looks alike. Some say that the so called "nutting stone" was actually used to start fires - any feelings about that? I must have missed the effigy, what is the time of it? Thanks for sharing!
Thanks man! The loaf stone as I’ve heard it called, had some obvious etchings on it. I figured it would be hard to see in a video, but there are lines etched around the lower perimeter of the piece as well as an obvious one across the top. To me it’s obvious that’s what it was meant to look like… but I do understand people see different things even when looking at the same object sometimes! Haha But the nutting stone is a highly debated piece for sure. So many different opinions on those. I did talk to a guy that knapped points and he thought them to be anvil stones. He said he would knap pieces on flat rocks and after a little while, the rock would have the same dips on it. I can definitely see that being the case and could definitely see someone sitting there pressure flaking away with that stone between their legs.
@@Points365 On the loaf stone, the engraved lines are where cordage or leather strings were placed to hold it in position. The light scratchings (which I could hardly see) were probably for decoration. But, I cannot see how the pitted rocks would be useful for knapping as it would dull points or edges. I know a guy that found a nutting stone or two beneath a large, old hickory tree. He believed that there had been generations of hickory trees at that site. Which would be logical with nuts as seeds were always there. So, I believe they are for nutting but maybe also used as a placement for turning stick with a bow to start fires.
A few people thought loaf stone, which was used as an atlatl weight I believe. Net weight was thrown out there as well. To me the etchings on it make it obvious they were trying to make it look like a turtle shell, but people are having a hard time seeing it! Haha maybe the video doesn’t do it justice?! Thanks for checking it out buddy!
Hah! I never even noticed the resemblance of a horseshoe crab in that piece! I haven’t a clue actually… I’ll have to go back and look it over. Good eye man!
@Points365 just happened to catch part of a program on fossils in Wyoming and that looks like a horseshoe crab viewed from the bottom. I have found a small one once on the plains out east but it has a top view .the wierd little seam in the center is what caught my attention it looks like the tail portion was worked off by whoever's made the chopper but I'm not an ancient crabologist or whatever you would call such a person but I might be a fossil!
I mainly look for locations that would’ve been suitable for habitation 1000’s of years ago. Flat, out of a floodplain, access to game and water, etc. At the end of the day, I basically walk and look everywhere there is newly exposed dirt looking for flakes, shells, or pottery. When I find a spot that has any of those signs of habitation, I frequently return to see if anything new has surfaced! Good luck!
You guys got a little bit of our hurricane, huh? Lot of wind and rain in your neighborhood? Weird weather here. It flooded the West coast and knocked a bunch of trees down, and it sucked every bit of the moisture out of everything on the East coast, and left us dry as a popcorn fart.
Shoot yeah we did… I mean, nothing like down there (west side of course)! But man it rained solid from 9pm Thursday night until around 2am this morning, then off and on all day. We needed it though. Crazy it was popcorn fartingly dry there where you’re at!😂
Yeah that’s what the consensus on here seems to be. I was straddling the fence between that or a net weight. I appreciate the input, and for you taking the time to check it out!
Then the video would surely take a turn for the worse! I haven’t a clue what I’d say? I sure as heck can’t say what I’m finding, because 90% of the time I’m clueless. Thats where the smart viewers on here come in to the rescue!

That was my thought at first. The majority of people on here seem to think loaf stone / atlatl weight. Whatever it is, I’m glad to have been the one to find it! When I first picked it up I just thought it was another rock! Thanks for taking the time to comment and check out the finds!
Item at 16:16 is hand axe (Oldowan style) very old make
Thanks man! The crude and old stuff like that seems to get passed over for the more aesthetically pleasing it seems like.
Awesome finds. How long does it usually take for you to have enough footage to make a video or are these from just one day? Thanks for sharing.
Thanks man! Depends on the conditions really. Typically around 4-6 trips (10ish hour days) will give me enough footage for a video. If I showed all the broken stuff I found, I could have a 30 min video in a day or two! SO much broken stuff! I appreciate you checking out the finds
What's amazing about that site is it appears to have been used by different cultures over many thousands of years
I find that to be the case at a lot of places I hunt. The time period of occupation seems to span over different time periods. Must’ve been some good hunting or something around there! Thanks as always buddy!
Boy he got a spot don't he?
I wish they were secret spots! Unfortunately I have to share it with everyone east of the Mississippi it seems! Haha
Haha
But the nutting stone is a highly debated piece for sure.
I am wondering if that turtle shell looking artifact was an atlatl weight? Just curious . What a great find video. Cheers.
That chopper toward the end is that made frome a fossil horseshoe crab or somthing similar?
Well I'm old but not a fossil yet my error!
Quick question, how do you find these locations to hunt? What makes you determine if the spot worth hunting?
Crazy it was popcorn fartingly dry there where you’re at!😂
@@Points365 yeah, it's counterintuitive but they act like big sponges. If you're on the east side of them they suck all the moisture out of the air.
👍
I appreciate it as always buddy!
Tune is a rip of Led Zep/Jimmy Page's Bron-Y-Aur from Physical Graffiti
Man, what an ear! It’s not a dead ringer, but I definitely hear the similarity!
@Points365
rock AND roll my point finding brother. Wife and I walked into reception 33 yrs ago to the song lol
You beat me to that one. Greatest band ever period. Saw them live in Cincinnati at Riverfront in the spring of 1977 when I was 17.
We call that a loaf stone in Ohio. Atl Atl weight
Yeah that’s what the consensus on here seems to be. I was straddling the fence between that or a net weight. I appreciate the input, and for you taking the time to check it out!
The turtle is an atl-atl weight.
I appreciate the input. It’s definitely something I was unsure about.
Man you need some commentary
Then the video would surely take a turn for the worse! I haven’t a clue what I’d say? I sure as heck can’t say what I’m finding, because 90% of the time I’m clueless. Thats where the smart viewers on here come in to the rescue!
