The Daniel Adamson STEAM TUG | Full BOAT TOUR & CRUISE
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 22 ก.ค. 2024
- The Danny or Daniel Adamson is a Steam Powered Tug that used to travel the Manchester Ship Canal. Join me this week as I spend time with the wonderful crew as they feed the boilers, trim the coal and get the engine room ready for a wonderful cruise along the River Weaver from Sutton Weaver to Acton Bridge. During the cruise along the River the crew cover a brief history of the Danny and show how the wonderful steam engines work.
------------
Thank you so much for watching. If you are new here, I'm Heidi and I live aboard my Narrowboat The Rum Wench and travel the UK's Canals in search of Adventure. After selling my house to experience an alternative lifestyle I bought a canal boat and a camper van which as a solo female who loves to travel, gives me the best of both worlds. I have recently got myself a new addition to the crew, a fabulous companion - my little rescue dog Bonny who is an absolute joy and the perfect First Mate. I also work full time off grid from my tiny home and trade at canal festivals as The Narrowboat Pirate aboard The Pirate Boat.

Hi Heidi it was a pleasure to show you around and show you what we do, all the volunteers work hard to keep the Danny sailing, which you superbly show in your video. Excellent video, super editing, a big thumbs up 👍
Cheers Ian
Thanks so much Ian, and thanks for your wonderful explaining and kindness that day …. Such a wonderful crew 😃❤️🏴☠️
Very educational..can tell you was a teacher dudette.❤
Thank you 😃🏴☠️
That's my next day out sorted 😌
Thank you for letting us see The Danny.
Thanks for taking the time to comment 😃❤️🏴☠️
So many years of knowledge with crew. I’d love to see some younger people learning how to navigate this tug when these retirees are done . Thanks for a great video!
Thank you 😃🏴☠️❤️
We do have a number of younger engineering students helping out, we also liaise with local colleges with placements and presentations. One young lad is very keen and is a fully fledged member of the boiler team in between his university classes. Everyone is welcome and will get all the help they need. Young blood to replace us oldies 😊
Cheers Ian
Beautiful! Congratulations to all the men working on this amazing piece of history. It's people like these men that keep this country going. Thank you Heidi.
Very true 😃🏴☠️❤️
There's nothing like a bit of steam power, fantastic. Big shout-out to all the volunteers and you Heidi for taking us on this wonderful vessel.
Aww thank you 😃❤️🏴☠️
tu peux pas savoir comme je t'envie 🤩
Thank you
You should have took some sound samples of that engine, chopped them up on your daw, bet you could put a banging techno tune together,
Another great vlog (and highly interesting for the mechanically minded!). "The Danny" is a magnificent vessel, and obviously well maintained and cared for (and, dare I say it, loved!). Steam driven vehicles seem far more 'alive' than later vehicles, with the smells, sounds and movements and so much more. When I was a schoolboy (many decades ago) I used to help out at The Kent and East Sussex Railway, and it was brilliant fun (although I doubt Mum was happy with the added laundry issues!).
I just remembered (while "The Danny" was turning around) that the system of communication between the bridge and the engine room was called "Engine Room Telegraphs".
Where does a General keep his armies? Up his sleevies!
Thanks James … yes you do get a bit filthy 😂 but wonderful engines
Hi Heidi, I've been waiting for your video.
Hat's off to those gents for what they do, and.... you can never have enough lube, including engine's.
🤣🤣
What an amazing crew on an awesome boat.....that engine room 😍 and she sounds beautiful. Thank you for taking us along Heidi and totally agree she sounded very relaxing, even hypnotic. 😊. Safe and happy onward adventuring Heidi.......hair looks good this week even after wearing yer helmet!😂
😂😂😂
Ahoy Heidi & Bonny! ❤ The Historical History of The Stream Tug " The Danny "! Thank you, Heidi for this awesome history!❤❤❤From Chicago, IL USA 🇺🇸 P.S Heidi, you're amazing!😊
Awww thank you 😃❤️🏴☠️
Dial things... Telegraph.
Wonderful trip, thanks. Must do it soon.
Heidi they broke the mould when they made you..😂.. Smelling of wee/sherry and a bit of Lavender 😂… Fantastic insight into that lovely old Puffer… I love all types of engines as well, I love the smell of steam engines and with all that heat and oil mixed in, such a pity we cannot open up a couple of our Coal Mines instead of dragging it halfway around the world, well done for another brilliant video 👍🏻🇬🇧
😂😂 it just slips out 😂
You have done it once again! When you described the coordination of the crew to make the ship work I thought it is sort of like an orchestra getting instructions from the maestro.
What a wonderful way to describe it - thank you 😃🏴☠️❤️
Avast me hearty! Couldn't quite smush it down to four or five lines; needs a bit of context, but how's this:
They put to sea - nearly - on the ship canal wide
The outlook was dreary: well, it was Merseyside
“Batten down the hatches!” our brave captain cried.
“The waves are five inches - it’ll be a rough ride!
“You’re mentioned in despatches, Bon, for not staying inside”
They saw ships a plenty upon the high seas
But the coffers stayed empty, for none did they seize
“’Cos my nips are like bullets; I’m worried they’ll freeze!”

Added to my list, Thank you 😁
Absolutely fantastic Heidi. Best ever. Great experience. Thank u for taking us along. Brilliant.
Aww thanks so much 😃❤️🏴☠️
One of my favourite Heidi videos so far too! Watched it twice.
@@RoamingRambling thanks so much 😃🏴☠️❤️
@@TheNarrowboatPirate ❤
What an interesting vlog, thank you Heidi and the volunteers that keep the Danny going. Bought for a pound? Unbelievable!
I know … it was scrap then
I know, it was about to be broken apart
Never wee and sherry ...more like wee and rum!! Love Thursday because of you Heidi xxx sending lots of hugs
😂😂
Interesting story to that tug, its a part of history that deserves to be kept running. The workmanship involved in the old steam engines is amazing. Having served aboard RN ships and sadly seen them scrapped/sold off eventually its nice to see some old vessels being given a new lease of life.
I know, they did wonders with this tug 😃❤️🏴☠️
Brilliant Heidi ❤ xxx
Thank you 😃🏴☠️❤️
absolutely loved it Heidi i may be long in the tooth but never too old to learn❤
Thank you 😃❤️🏴☠️
Absolutely love this video for some particular reason 😄.
Is that because you share the same name ? 😂😂
@@TheNarrowboatPirate maybe 🤔😎
That steam boat, really tugs at my heart.
It’s amazing 😃🏴☠️❤️
Thank you Heidi for the beautiful video of you and the Danny what an experience you are some woman
I loved that day 😃🏴☠️❤️
Heidi, what a wonderful adventure.
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together for those of us who are not privy to such adventures.
It is so different from the many other vlogs done by the boating community.
Many thanks to the staff for letting you do the video as well.
Totally Brilliant!!

They crew were absolutely wonderful 😃🏴☠️❤️
Great vlog and a fantastic old boat. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it 😃🏴☠️
What a wonderful time!!! We always look forward to Thursdays and our adventures across the pond. Fabulous as always, give Bonnie some love from us.
Thank you …. She was being spoilt at her Nanna and Grandads while I was joy riding on the Danny 😂😂
Fab video! My dad was a chief engineer in the merchant navy for over 40 yrs as was my grandad before him… That engine would’ve been his heaven… unfortunately he dropped dead when he was 60 which was a bit inconvenient to be honest… tho’ he did die on a boat… renovating an old dredger in Caernarfon harbour… I love the smell of ships… memories of childhood visiting dad’s ships… 😊👍 nice hearing from old engineer blokes (all with same accent as my dad) thank you mrs! 👍😊
Aww sorry for your loss xxx
@@TheNarrowboatPirate thank you… it was 34 yrs ago … I’ve had kids & im now 60 so hopefully I don’t drop dead just yet 👀😂but your video brought back lovely memories 😊👍
Heidi, the content you provide is amazing 👏 👏👏
Thanks so much 😃❤️🏴☠️
The heat, the smell, and the power. I love old tugs. Lol I used to make cups of tea as a volunteer on our historic tug. Love it. Take care =-)
Aww brilliant stuff Lorraine 🏴☠️❤️😃
As an engineering patternmaker I can appreciate all of the cast iron components needed to fit out the engine and ancillary parts. The patternmaker would have made all of these parts in timber, after which they would have been placed into sand moulds, then molten steel poured into the moulds.
Oh wow 😃🏴☠️❤️
Wow. What an amazing boat and thank you for a behind the scenes tour. So interesting.
Thank you 😃❤️🏴☠️
Heidi, love the trip, you a god. 🥰👍👍👍👍👍
😂😂
Heidi, A fantastic tour on The Danny! Thank you so much.

Cheeky 😉🤣
Another fantastic video from you yet again. Thanks.
Thank you 🏴☠️❤️😃
Full marks to all concerned in this presentation
Thank you 😃🏴☠️❤️
brilliant boat, worth saving so people can see how life was like.
Yes and it takes a full team to crew it … just wonderful 😃🏴☠️❤️
Fabulous this week Heidi, always look forward to your weekly slot
Thank you so much 😊
Great video, love a steam engine ❤
Thank you 😃🏴☠️
@@TheNarrowboatPirate Always a pleasure to watch your adventures!
What a great video! xx
Thank you!!
COOL BEANS-COOL BEANS , THE DANNY. The steam boat with steam Driven power steering. Shes an AWESOME Beauty.😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩
She sure is 😃🏴☠️❤️
the danny is a beautiful piece of equipment , a random google search for antique diesel engines started my interest in the cut, been following various you tube canal boats every since the Danny is even older engine technology
The steam power is just amazing 😃🏴☠️❤️
Absolutely brilliant vlog well done Heidi 👏
Thanks so much! 😊
What a great episode. Didn’t even pause it for a cup of tea. What an enthusiastic group of volunteers, we (through you) are so fortunate to get such an intimate tour of this tug. Thank you and those volunteers for this open page of history.
Thanks so much!
Took the Danny into Liverpool two years ago. Unforgettable day.
Please, so give it's go.
You won't regret it.
What a fantastic boat! So enjoyed learning all about its history and how it’s all run by so many lovely volunteers. Thanks for sharing this Heidi. Big woofs to Bonny. Debs. 😊
Thanks so much Debs 🏴☠️😃❤️
Waw, Heidi! You scored yourself a biggun! Yawdroppingly exciting to see how it is restaured and operating again. And the Art Deco interior is so wonderful, i’m mad for Art Deco! Beautiful! So. Thank you so much. I’m off watching it again! ❤🐕❤️
Aww thanks so much 😃🏴☠️❤️
Thanks Heidi for showing us The Danny. what a fab boat.
Bravo to the crew of the Danny. Well done gentlemen. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing. Be well and stay safe. 😊
Thanks, you too!
You didn't miss the boat any way
fantastic heidi love it
Thank you 😃🏴☠️❤️
They built tugs with class back then.
They sure did 😃🏴☠️
What a beautiful renovation. Countless hours of dedicated work by a team of volunteers. Brilliant!
I know, absolutely wonderful 😃❤️🏴☠️
That was awesome Heidi! Salute to all those volunteers keeping the Danny sailing!!!😊
I know, such an amazing bunch 🏴☠️
Love all your videos, Heids, but this is among the most mental ones in a good while. Seeing the old-timers work the engine like an old pipe organ had my jaw on the floor. The chugging clockwork, the massive, hungry stoves, the calling system. That, is, insane. Makes me think of what life was like on the deepest decks of the ocean liners some 100 years ago...
Haha thank you, yes it was so wonderful to be part of it all 😃❤️🏴☠️
Thanks Heidi for a great tour of the Danny, magnificent she is, missed Bonny though! cheers🥃
She was being spoilt at her nana and grandads 😂😂
Having a blast Heidi!😃
Loved it toot toot 🤣🤣
I loved that toot toot 😂😂
What a fabulous treat, cheers Heidi. And cheers to all the crew and the many supporters of the Daniel Adamson who must give up so much of their time to keep her looking in such fine fettle. Marvellous! 👋
The whole crew were just wonderful 😃🏴☠️❤️
Absolutely wonderful to see, lucky you. I went over the Shieldhall 30 years ago when it was in either Poole or Southampton (?), she was great and the heat in the engine room was tropical, by crikey! Only trubble is The Danny would be too noisy fer smuggling brandy & baccy, tea, silk etc. I'll have to stick with me blow up Hippo or Nessie plus a paddle!! Keep on smiling, old smuggler Frank🤣😉
What a brilliant blog Heidi, of our Danny. Great too of had you aboard, thanks again. Eddie
Thanks so much for the opportunity and for all being so much fun and amazing 😃❤️🏴☠️
Thanks Lovely Heidi for taking us along on this fantastic cruise onboard The Danny, it looked like you had a brilliant time on a lovely sunny day. Well done to the people that managed to get this historical Tug rebuilt and well done to all the great volunteers that crew this lovely old Tug. I hope that you and Little Bonny are doing well. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Thanks Stevie 😃❤️🏴☠️
Thank you for sharing the Danny. What a beautiful boat. Enjoy all the adventures you take us on!
Thank you 😃❤️🏴☠️
While watching this video, I gained the utmost respect for all the crew of this ship. What an experience. Thank you so much for sharing it with all of us!
Thank you, yes they are all such an amazing crew 😃🏴☠️❤️
A friend of mine volunteers on the Danny.
Wonderful 😃❤️🏴☠️
You’ll never know just how much joy this video adventure brought me! I love steam! I was lucky enough to be able to ride in steam engines when I was young. Gracias for this joyous moment!👏👏👏👏👏
Awww I’m so glad you enjoyed it 😃🏴☠️❤️
Daniel Adamson (30 April 1820 - 13 January 1890) was an English engineer who became a successful manufacturer of boilers and was the driving force behind the inception of the Manchester Ship Canal project during the 1880s
Covered in the ship canal video as mentioned in the video 😃🏴☠️
I, together with my family, had the great pleasure of a trip on The Danny on my birthday last year. It was a tremendous day, on a magnificent treasure of a ship. The Danny and all her crew are a credit to historical ship building and also a credit to humanity. A wonderful thing indeed. Long may she grace the waters with her presence for crew and passengers for many many years to come. Thanks to Derek Knox (Boiler Stoker on my trip) for informing of the magnificent Danny and trips that are available to attend for all who book on. Like going back in time, in fine style indeed.
Yes, it’s absolutely wonderful 😃🏴☠️❤️
@@TheNarrowboatPirate 🥳👍😀🚢😍
Steam Engines:They live, just like little Bonny!
They do 🏴☠️❤️😃
What a wonderful story. So much time and effort from volunteers to restore an old boat and bring a bit of history back to life. Thank you Heidi for taking us along! 👍 Cheers from Florida ☀️⛵️🌴🌴🌴

Smashing, love the history & the renovation. Magical.
Thank you 😃❤️🏴☠️
I went round the Daniel Adamson when it was at the steam festival a few weeks ago at the Anderton Boat lift. Lovely boat. Your video has reminded me to book a trip. It's fantastic it's all manned by volunteers.
It was such an amazing day 🏴☠️😃
A great documentary. Heidi, you have outdone yourself. Very interesting story, amazing camera work, good interviews with the crew and guests. nice information and views of the engine room. I would be glad to take a steamy day on the river with Heidi any time.
Thank you so much! 😃🏴☠️
Thank you for playing that tune at the end of this video
Wonderful piece of history and how they got it back to the lovely condition and all Voluntarys 😊thanks for showing.
Thank you 🏴☠️😃❤️
stunning vessel went on board last summer in royal albert dock liverpool would love to go on a cruise
Oh it’s wonderful 😃❤️🏴☠️
Love discovering the history of the canals and rivers and the various boats that travelled up and down the waterways 😊 Great to see the dedication of the volunteers helping to keep history alive. FM Bonny would have been in her element "supervising" the firemen and the brightworks polishing crew 😆 One of my favourite episodes so far, thank ye for taking us along! Happy boating Captain 🏴☠️🌈
Aww thanks so much 😃❤️🏴☠️
preserving steam is a wonderful experience. the great sound of the engine from boat trains without dedicated volunteers. wound have been lost forever
Very true 😃❤️🏴☠️
Wow those guys are awesome .. gonna be booking a trip I think
Oh it’s wonderful 😃🏴☠️❤️
A great piece of preserved history. Fantastic that it was saved. I am a fan of old steam locomotives and their preservation and have enjoyed several trips with steam. Thanks for sharing
It’s such a wonderful vessel, I absolutely loved that day 🏴☠️😃❤️
I am soooo jealous, what a beautiful craft.
Yes, it really is 😃❤️🏴☠️
O my, it's like I died and went to heaven. This is a very good report. I just passed the ewes and the lambs , running away
Like hell was after them. 😂😂
😂😂😂
It's called "steaming" or "under way".😉
Oooh...don't be dirty now! 😉
😂😂
Fab episode! Maybe if current Navy n Merchantman young engineers were able t do Service time aboard such as Danny during their apprenticeships....the skills needed n interest in historic vessels like this would stay alive!
"...as simple as that!" 😂
Great boat and great crew, lucky to have it on my doorstep and to see it pass my Living room window now and then 💓👍
Oh wow, so lucky 😃❤️🏴☠️
Hello Heidi ... what a fun video ... I felt like I was riding along on the Danny with you. I really enjoy you sharing things like this with us. What an amazing bunch of memories you will have to recall when it comes time to anchor into retirement. My hat's off to the volunteers who work so hard to history alive ... they are amazing. Save my spot on board the Wench (or Polly if we are travelling by vehicle). Love you an Bonny --- Gramma Lainee
Thanks so much Gramma Lainee 😃🏴☠️❤️
