Tim Watters' underwhelming death is pretty fitting. He was playing noble captain and thought he was a hero. In the end, not only did he died as neither a captain nor a hero, but his hubris got dozens of other people killed, too. He died the way he lived: as a chump.

    • @promontorium
      @promontorium 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

Yeah totally disagree with this being on the list. His suicidal mission and getting everyone killed was not "lame" it was the point of the episode. It was specifically to highlight the futility and horror of his mentality as well as the horror of the war.

Patricia Tallman, one of the mercenaries in Starship Mine, and better known as Lyta Alexander on Babylon 5, was on both the Enterprise D bridge AND the bird of prey bridge in the battle that kills the Duras sisters. She is the helm operator that Dianna takes over from, and as one of the sisters stunt double. She was also in sickbay as Dr Crushers stunt double.
Not to mention being helm on the Defiant on occasion, a starfeet security officer, Nana Visitors stunt double, the list goes on....

Narissa's death was so slapped together at the last moment. Especially the "This is for Hugh!" ADR that Jeri Ryan had to do from a cupboard on a cruise ship because someone remembered, at the very last second, that Seven and Hugh were supposed to know each other even though they never shared a second of screentime.

First off the Duras Sisters were burnt after their last stint in TNG! Ugh! Ijs! Second - if you remember the discussion about the Bird of Prey - it was taken out of service because of defective plasma coils. Riker commanded that the plasma coils be targeted. We already know plasma is dangerous, this ship was leaking it (because it was defective) so yes one shot did it. This was akin to throwing cigarette into a puddle of gasoline. Not to mention the Klingons shields were down and they themselves admitted the Galaxy Class Enterprise were much more powerful than they were.

I know she wasn't a villain but I really hated Tasha Yar's death...it was so anti climactic and the wound on her face was incredibly lazy. Also her daughter Sela, literally we have no idea what happened to her. And the show really messed up with not having Yar still be alive to meet her old crew. That whole Sela arch was terrible.

Duras sisters died because in order to cloak you had to drop shields at the time - so while cloaked they were literally naked - sure normally this would mean the enemy would have to fire blindly around thus missing but if he knew where you are and had a way to track you then you would be a toast - and this was the case here.

Gary Mitchell didn't forget James Kirk's middle name. The writers changed it subsequent to the airing of the episode he died in. It's a retcon that the TOS writers made showing how Star Trek's production staff have been playing fast and loose with canon since the very beginning of the franchise.

Leland’s death doesn’t take away from the Discovery having to jump into the future. They state that Control will find a way to get the sphere data if they stay in the 23rd century and that’s because Control isn’t a centralized being. It’s a being that doesn’t have one single form so it’s in all of the things it inhabits whether it’s Leland or the section 31 ships. It’s why ships were still chasing Discovery as it went into the wormhole.

Very clever Sean, “We loathed a lifetime’s worth” … I’m not sure if anyone else caught that, but the original phrase “We loved a lifetime’s worth” was said by Sarah Connor, at the end of The Terminator, when she’s pregnant, getting gas for her jeep, and recording tapes for John Connor.

Picard giving Tim Russ the Vulcan neck pinch was both the ultimate irony and insane foreshadowing in Star Trek franchise history.
Yeah, I agree with pretty much all of these, especially Gary Mitchell, the Duras sisters, and Seska...lamest anime deaths ever.
Also, as for Picard breaking metal...maybe he was secretly an augment all along and we never knew? (i mean, ST writers make up new lore that goes against established canon all the time, so why not?)....and well, he retained the memories of when he was a Borg, so maybe while in the collective he had learned the secret art of breaking metal poles off walls? 🤣

I realize Ron Moore and Brannon Braga were burning the candle at both ends writing Generations while also writing All Good Things, but that seems like a gaffe to use a compound already named in a TNG episode.

ST has always amused me because of the irony that stories about the future leave so many things unchanged. Phasers are not more accurate... trained trek crews use fists and kicks ( MA) to subdu bad guys when they would likely have many tools to neutralize a threat by then .... like (OH yeah stun ) SG Baddies had a palm force tool... fight scenes are so common and really don't built excitement ( at least to me ) ...as we know how its going to turn out.
Back on subject ... I do wonder sometimes if the real reason for bad deaths is.. they just want rid of the actor.
I would like to see you do a history of the changes to makeup and dress of Klingons. I think all races have changed with each movie and series.. but I think Klingons are the most familiar Villains and Friends.

Watching the Duras sisters finally get the comeuppance they'd always deserved was bittersweet: their interference was finally, FINALLY over but the question of the one sister's child was never really declared or explored. Sure the two 'ladies' were as underhanded and conniving just like their dead brother, but maybe the unnamed mystery child the one sister is reported to have had between the end of Generations and the movie will have a better fate.
All three Duras siblings tried to use the Romulans right along with actual legal and financial acumen or loopholes to get what they wanted, when they weren't literally stabbing anyone they didn't need anymore right in the back. Or in the eye. So between this child we never see and Duras' son (legitimate or not), maybe a future Klingon character will either be many times better at being a dastardly adversary or see reason in stayed on Starfleet's good side.

Q's death in Picard S2, given he didn't really die apparently, click of the fingers, dead, gone, and then back again at the end of Picard S3, so, pretty lame really... :P

Q wasn’t really a villain. He was more a troll that did things to annoy people. I don’t think he was inherently evil as he also did nice things too and had tested humanity as he saw its potential.

Tim Waters was not a villain, he was naive and maybe a bit paranoid, but not evil.
If he would have received new orders from a superior officer he would likely have obeyed.

While these were indeed lame deaths (although with the Durass sisters it was more of a relief to be done with them) but the most lame and pointless endings were Jedzia Dax and Tasha Yar. They should have died in glorious battle not in the mundane way that Dax died and the pointless end of Tasha. How could you have missed these?

I'm kind of shocked Kirk wasn't on the list!
A legendary figure both in and out of the show, and he dies because.... a rusty bolt & anchor failed, dropping him off a cliff.
I always felt the original death was better. Soran shooting him in the back right after he says 'The 24th century isn't so hard.'
But even that was kind of lame for Kirk. So I came up with something better.
Everything's the same up until Kirk and Picard split up except that Soran drops his gun at some point.
Switch the captain's roles in the scene. Have Picard go for the remote to decloak the rocket while Kirk goes to shut it down. Just like in the actual movie, the best Kirk can do is to clamp down the rocket so it can't take off. He locks it down, but Soran attacks him, intent on releasing the clamps. He attacks physically as he desperately tries to hit the release because he dropped his weapon earlier.
On the other side of things, Picard struggles to climb off the failing bridge that killed Kirk, preventing him from helping. Picard gets to the top where he finds Soran's pistol. He can't reach Kirk, but he is able to clip Soran with a shot, saving Kirk from a lethal blow.
This gives Kirk the momentum to fight Soran back from pressing the big red button (tm) to release the rocket, but realizing that if he stays in place he's dead, and if he moves, Soran can launch the rocket. The only way he could save Veridian 2, an entire world of people he never even saw, is to sacrifice himself in the rocket's explosion alongside Soran.
Insert appropriate dialogue where needed to amp up the drama, of course. But it's a much better death for Kirk. The conscious choice to stay in harm's way to protect people and a traditional Kirk-style fistfight, Picard still gets to help, but the focus is on Kirk's last ride.
