  • Hey everyone and welcome back to Iowa Classic Cars! Today in this video I tell the story of my 1960 Buick Electra that was forgotten behind an old barn in Iowa and with a little time and a good motor, we were ablle to get it running again after sitting for many years. This classic Buick now runs and drives and is in good hands with its new owner in Sweden, as he drives it all over and has done a ton of work to it. Make sure to subscribe for more junkyard rescues and will it run style videos of classic cars! Thanks for watching and check back frequently as I am always buying and saving old cars and getting them to run and drive after sitting for many years!

I've never had one of the Buicks with the accelerator pedal start button but I've heard a lot about them! Seems to me like that would be a terrible idea as far as flooding and over-revving and such! I had a Studebaker that there was a dimmer switch under the clutch pedal that would crank the car over that took me quite some time to figure out... Love the sound of that Nailhead! Thanks Ryan!

@@IowaClassicCars It was actually something Marketing came up with -- not Engineering. Buick's idea was that if you had to floor the gas pedal to start the the car, it would always start with a roar! Studebaker had a much more practical idea -- put the starter button on the floor under the clutch, so that the car can never start in gear.

Once there gone overseas they most likely won't set tire back in the USA. That's upsetting to me. I know it'll be taken care of , but it still stinks. Black Lacquer Mirror Magic Paint on my Baby. My kids call it the Batman Car. In my opinion you have a Golden Opportunity to bring it back. Chrome looks good, engine sounds good. I'm encouraged on making a you tube Video of my Buicks because of all those who have done so for our Pleasure. I've only seen two 60 Buick Electras with my eyes, in front of me in 37 years. A disturbing comment elsewhere about damaging these on some of the lube racks of the time led me to research the frame.
No, Buick held off using the GM X-frame design until 1961 but the 59-60 dropped the X brace and just had a ladder frame like a 55 Chevy non Convertible frame. Some of the front part was triangulated. I’m guessing the sedan shown here would be more resistant to flex than a four door pillarless hardtop but it is some cause for further research if you own a car like this.
