    It takes a lot of strength to post this and I’m glad you did. You really do preach what you say and that makes a huge difference!

    Hi. I am a 4th year PhD student in CS at UW. Just wanted to say, thank you for sharing your experiences. I too have been experiencing a great deal of anxiety, especially now as I get closer towards the end of my degree but I simply do not feel like I have done enough work. It got really bad, to the extent of full-blown anxiety attacks, multiple times a day. Talking to my family, my friends, and my professor helped a lot. Therapy also helps. Ironically, what helped the most was the time I was forced to take off because I broke my leg pretty badly and had to take the term off to recover. It helped me distance myself from my worries for a bit. I just wanted to say, you’re doing a great job at managing your stress. Thanks for posting this video!

      thanks for sharing your experience! i really hope you're doing better now as well. it's hard to admit weakness and we have a tendency to want to appear strong even when times are tough. best of luck to you in your future endeavors.

    Instant sub, I can only imagine how hard it was to be vulnerable like that. Setting a regular meet time with friends for a life/goal update not a bad idea 🤔

    Hey man, super happy to hear that you're doing better and landed a sick job! I've probably watched hundreds of videos on uw and it takes a lot of courage to speak up about these things and share your personal experience. As an incoming ce student, hearing your experiences will definitely help me navigate the same hurdles you overcame! Good job man, keep making blessed content.

    Hey man, don't beat yourself up about it. Job search is rough in the early years and especially now with a worse market. I'm in your class and have experienced something similar with every co-op being found after finals season 😭

    Bro could you share your average or some Ecs that got you into this program

    • @stevenbai0724
      @stevenbai0724  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      thank you for bringing this up lol i might make a video on this..? but NOT like a cringe video about what grades and ecs I had in high school and feeling cool about being in uwcs... those videos can be misleading these days and might lead viewers into wrong direction. because it's bad when you look at "uwcs how to get in" videos and compare all of your achievements to them, constantly thinking about whether or not you are sufficient for acceptance, or even worse, discouraging yourself that you're not enough. this can and probably will lead to anxiety leading up to university offers; i did this a lot in high school and it was good to learn about what uwcs people were working on but it's just more important to drown out all the noise and work on stuff you enjoy and can commit to. don't get me wrong though it's still insightful to learn about "stats average ecs" since it gets you in the right ballpark on what you gotta work on
      but i think the most important thing is to do your best to learn a lot of content and participate in things related to whatever program you're interested in. Take on extracurriculars that require dedication and show your discipline and leadership skills. School average is a basic requirement though! if you just focus on these things, it really doesn't matter which school and program you end up with, it will certainly set you way ahead of your previous self and probably most of the shitters in the waterloo cs gutter itself.
      If you're really curious though, I had a highly inflated 97 average (from all the covid virtual nonsense), similar to most kids my year. math contests are crucial for cs, i'd say participation is like the bare minimum. try to focus or at least include some highly advantageous cs-related ec's like hackathons, internships or software project work, and delve deep into it in the long answer part of the application. non math/cs stuff is solid too, i included stuff like competitive swimming on my application.
      ok i am yapping again but i hope this gives you some solid info

      @@stevenbai0724 Awesome bro
      One more question tho
      Would you say waterloo cares much about grade 11 because of how competitive they are? Let's say you did poorly in grade 11 and then did good in grade 12 would it affect your chances ?
      Been seeing some people say they give most of the offers with 4 grade 12 courses and 2 grade 11s I don't think I'd get in if they did this

    • @stevenbai0724
      @stevenbai0724  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Jacobsalmon99 from what i've known ever since i was in gr 11 (almost 4 years ago lol), they use grade 11 marks when your grade 12 isn't available. waterloo usually gives offers in May, so if you go to a semestered school then all of your grade 12 courses should be available at acceptance (for gr 12 semester 2 they'll use your midterm report), so grade 11 usually isn't considered. however it is possible to get an offer in late March, and in this case some of your gr 11 marks can be used since semester 2 marks wouldn't be available yet. I got my offer in the May round, and so did 90%+ of other people.
