A little opinion: I believe reason fighter almost never attacked it's because it's in defend mode, only will engage if mothershio received damage, i'd recommended to give the "Attack Target" order from the moment it takes off. Also, in order to avoid fighter loss it could be possible to recall it right after heart is sniped and perform a cold reboot (I know that's more fitted for large ships, but maybe could work) so fighter can be relaunched after the swarm is dealt with
haha yes i noticed it was in defend quite often -the strange thing is i was often giving orders to attack but they seemed to only work intermittently - maybe it resets after a time? thank you for the additional info on fighters :) I will have to try a speedy recall after the heart in future ;)
Just my 2 cents worth. The primary value I've seen (so far) from an SLF is the matter of the NPC opponent almost always all but ignoring the mother ship in favor of chasing the fighter. Like the swarm invariably targeting the fighter. Fighters can be replaced fairly cheaply. Use a fighter bay large enough to mount 2 bays and your pilot should be able to always have a fresh ship ready to launch. As long as that swarm is chasing that SLF it's not chasing YOU in that far more expensive ship. As well, Defend Mode appears to be default. Under which condition the fighter won't go after much of anything UNLESS it is attacking you. If you give the Fire At Will order you might see just how bloodthirsty your NPC pilot can be. The ummm, backstory provided when you hire that pilot can tell you quite a bit about what to expect from that pilot. I have one with a flying/battle style much like my own. Namely, fly straight down their throat with all guns blazing. I made it to Combat Elite before her, but not by much lol.
@@Citizen_Kate Attack orders reset to defend once the target is destroyed. I think the use of SLF's against AI wings might have brought you to think this way. Setting it to aggressive it will KoS
@@Citizen_Kate I often use fighter during thargoid combat zones, I find it very useful during combat zones to destroy the scouts - I've noticed that sometimes it launches with gausscannon offline, (maybe due to thargoid attack?) the fix is switching to the fighter and turn it on, then come back to the mothership
Very good video! But why did you put a 5d hangar in a 6-slot? If you build in a 6d hangar, mobility suffers only slightly from the additional weight. For this you have two SLF bays and if one SLF has been destroyed, you can send a second one straight away. I would also replace one of the Heat Sink Launcher with a Xeno scanner so that you can target the heart directly and give the SLF the command to attack the heart directly.
Love this ship. I know it's not the best or even very good but I've got a soft spot for the underdog ships. Hence the mamba being my go to ship for CZ and Haz Rez. Great video. Keep up the good work o7
I bought one, tricked it out figuring I'd prefer it over the FGS. It's cool if someone else likes it, but flying it really makes me pine for my old dakka boat.
I just plain like the LOOK of all 3 of the C ships. That's the galactic version of the big old farm truck with the monster tires. The one that slogs through just about any kind of terrain while hauling any load you can figure out how to hitch it to.
Personally, in order for FDev to convince me to at least try this ship: Upgrade the size 5 internal, to a size 6. OR, buff it's maneuverability a little. I mean, I can understand if the performance "nerf" is to balance with the fact that it can fit a Fighter Hangar, but maybe a bit "overnerfed".
I personally am a diehard Crusader pilot, and if going anti-xenos (or general combat) having a maxed out A.I. pilot to use a fighter can be great for keeping up constant DPS and damage to make up for your own mobility/heat pauses that take you off-target of an enemy (which is particularly useful against enemies who use jousting maneuvers). It is also fun if you have a friend to fly a second fighter and now you are basically a mini-carrier with decent enough mobility/combat potential to basically hammer larger ships relentlessly. Usually if hunting things like Corvettes I'll let the fighters apply pressure as I just stick to drifting in the Corvette's blindspots (if they don't have any turrets). Overall, it is absolutely not a ship I recommend to everyone. It is more of a ship for "dakka" fans who enjoy having plenty of guns and a buddy or two to keep ya company. It is also a ship that NEEDS to be engineered to hell and back, because it does fairly poorly shield-wise, and your BIGGEST problem in a fight is likely having your canopy blown out when you lose shields. So while I love the big chunky gal that I affectionately named 'Heartless Hilda', I know that I have to pick my fights much more carefully than someone who is flying something like a Krait.
Brilliant video as always! The fighter may not provide much firepower but at least you aren’t alone when fighting the thatgoids. That must count for something right! Also I wondered how would the adder fare against the thargoids? It has 2 small and 1 medium hardpoint and is only flown by people who like to smack it into the mailslot at 400+ms. Anyway have a great day cmdr o7
What might be beneficial (and funny) would be to use voice attack to constantly bark orders at your SLF pilot - could help trigger them to follow a more useful course of action.
Nice video, a few comments from my experience: You need to direct them to attack every launch. Best to use an elite for the aim bot and more proficient attack patterns. Gauss is great but maybe shard fighter better to exert/shield ? I can't remember an interceptor prioritising an slf over a player ship - unlike the swarm. When in 'maintain format' the reason is, for me, often that they've been outside in an emp sometime and somehow that causes the fighter to launch with the gun turned off in modules? Nuts. I've had to launch/board the slf a couple of times (setting the module on myself) to rectify it being launched inert. I've used slf in my cz t10 for shards to help vs shields, gauss vs scouts or simply to drag the swarm away for me to escape. But you get 30 in a size 7 with the ability to launch 2 at a stagger instead of waiting for the single rebuild every time. I'm a noob though 🤷🏻♂️
One of the reasons I launch a fighter is for that bonus dps and if the swarm is in missile formation I sacrifice my fighter to eat the missiles rather than me eating them. Its a great potential for safety nets, dps, and distracting the swarm. I feel the axi community wont give them the attention to their potential simply because the swarm kills them, which can be avoided or used to the advantage of the mothership.
yeh i did comment before but yeh launch the fighter after u kill the first swarm and have ur lance/trident attack ur target the entire time,it drains the sheilds on the interceptor and it gets the attention of the swarm as u said, but as the fighter orbits the interceptor the swarm follows and usually misses till the fighter makes the wrong move while orbiting, but by then once the fighter dies the swarm will be rlly far behind and won’t catch u for a while, and gives u plenty of time to launch another fighter and have it attack target and repeat, i do admire ur methods of fighting tho cmdr kate good job nun the less
yes i probably should have - it's something i didn't think of until afterwards :) maybe soon i will do an update on this using an Elite NPC to see what the difference between the two is
@@Citizen_Kate maybe try to use the different fighters as well, because the NPC didn't even seem to try and focus the heart. it might be worth using the fighter with the shard cannon so it can help exert more effectively :)
@@Citizen_Kate The difference is night and day. I’d suggest training one up from harmless to elite, and just keeping them along. They charge a lot less credits when you raise them from the lowest combat rating to the highest.
Ok i have a few criticisms about this and i request you try it again after listening to the criticisms. 1) The fighter was a harmless fighter. That level of fighter is actually just useless. Take an elite fighter and you'll see a WORLD of difference *except with the swarm in most situations sometimes that fighter will dogfight the swarm and be an EXCELLENT distraction* 2) I didnt see you issuing commands to the fighter. You under utilized and made the fighter worse than it actually can be. If you started to issue commands to it and actually trained it to be something better than harmless, i believe you would have had a MUCH better time with the fighter than you did.
Maybe I have got the most stupid Crusader: all top engineered cannons only. With lots of top engineered shield boosters and guardian shield reinforcements, and the fighter. Dude, that thing has got momentum 😂. It's heavy. It's absurd. It's rtarded. And I love it 😂
Might be the harmless pilot too, though. I found the really low rating npc fighters, while having good accuracy (when they do fire), are incredibly bad at actually doing anything outside of shooting at an immobile or very very busy target. They'll mostly spend their time (poorly) trying to stay alive if they have the slightest of aggro on them. (I found out the "commong knowledge" that Harmless doing the job equally well to be entirely hot air) When bounty hunting, anything a few skill level over my fighter pilot will functionally render the fighter useless... They're great when you have friends that only have limited time windows to play though since it bypasses the logistics of wing flight. Especially when you have two of them.
