Michael Palin's body language in this is superb. They are all just complete masters - language, voice, body. And we've all seen this guy before...in every country. But have we ever BEEN this guy ourselves? We can only hope.

"I'm on a cycling tour of North Cornwall, taking in Bude..." FYI, all the places he crashes are in Devon, not Cornwall. Just an added comedic detail that may be missed if you don't know the area.
Possibly the first show they did where most of if not all the episode was one long story, no doubt written by Palin and Jones who would do this more in series 4 once cleese left and go on to write ripping yarns together which was more this style of comedy, this could've been an episode of it if it wasn't under the python banner.
@@blakeyonthebuses they dont do this on sketch shows now, sketches are one or two gags then done, these guys turned one sketch into an entire story their imagination was so vast.

Tis funny because the first day of the cycling tour is the 18th of August, which was my late dad's birthday whose surname was Pither! Unfortunately my dad never found it funny 😢
The down side of this episode was seeing how less the show was with very little Cleese influence. The up side is it showed them beginning to think of full length single stories (movies).

For God so loved the world that he caused every living thing on it to perish in a global flood (apart from one family and a few animals). God also liked slavery, human sacrifices, forcing a rape victim to marry their rapist, stoning to death homosexuals - your God is a monster.
It's hard to explain why I found this so funny, @professorsogol5824. It's Michael Palin's expression of naieve, enthusiastic optimism when he is on the cycle. He was good at that face. It's why I loved the accountant sketch.
@@golden.lights.twinkle2329 Crashing on a bike is always embarrassing and often painful, but never funny. As perhaps you know there are two kinds of cyclists: those who have crashed and those who haven't crashed yet. One of the most brilliant skits they ever did. I love the constant clanging of the pots attached to his outfit.
not too brilliant :P
All Monty Pithon work is brilliant. You just have to understand the philosophy and meaning of it! Lol
@@cristinabumbac151 The show got on with it. Other shows were funny, but they included too much useless banter.
My favourite episode.
But the sketches with me were good as well.
That and he never takes the backpack off. Even in the dream sequence when he’s back home lol
Michael Palin was THE best. Every favorite skit (except silly walks) had him at the center. He kills me! So sad when he eventually passes!
"The pump caught in my trouser leg" plays in my head whenever I hear a crashing or clattering noise.
These episodic skits were always my favorites. One narrative that leads from one silly situation to another. Just the greatest.

Ever since 1972 I loved this Charles Gounod waltz. But there is more to it then those 8 bars.

For a cycling tour in North Cornwall he was going to some very strange places.

It's fairly obvious that the character has absolutely NO sense of direction whatsoever. lol
Surely this is the inspiration for the Where's Wally/Waldo books!
First time Pythons did something with coherent narrative for whole episode. It is just as silly.
One of my favorite sketches.
