    Good job. Well done. I love seeing Black people who are into family history and genealogy.

    This was very informative. Although I’m not of Caribbean decent, I’ve been told I have an African ancestor but I’m white as snow. It helped with you giving information about a few of the companies and especially why 23&me really isn’t a wise choice.

    Really enjoyed this video, thank you. I’m South African and I’ve done Ancestry DNA and myheritage. Results have been very general. Will try living dna

      So glad you enjoyed it Jeremy! DNA research is the only way some of us will be able to trace our ancestors so it is important that we understand it.

      My Heritage is not good for African ancestry. It has Kenya as a placeholder for Central Africa in a West African Diaspora sense and also in West Africa it just has Nigeria and Sierra Leone and then broad West Africa.

    I wouldn't discourage anyone from considering 23andme for African ancestry as it is a very good test. The health and traits reports can be very helpful for testers and its ancestry estimate report is quite good. Plus, I find 23andme reaction videos from a lot of non-European decent testers as they offer a free test kit (application process needed) to anyone who wishes to test who is from a isolated community (or community isolate? I don't know terms) :) These DNA companies love-love-love when a tester is 100% something as it allows them to further study and identify certain markers.
    Obviously, Ancestry leads in DNA matching and LivingDNA has expanded its African ancestry reports by many ethnic and tribal groups. Of course, ethnicity estimates should always be seen as entertainment first. Research and documentation is where you find your identity.
    Very good and informative video.

      23andme has allowed itself to be bullied to falsify and conceal the mixed ancestry of Somalians and the so-called Horn of Africa population. Therefore, as far as I'm concerned, it lacks any credibility it may have had. Also, they have recently been hacked and people's private data on sale.

      23&Me recently got hacked in October 2023. Good thing I never used them!
      Ancestry has the largest database of 22+ million. So they have lots of DNA data, family trees and more. They are the best I feel, bar none. And yes, you can get the same trait information if you are a subscriber!

      I wouldn’t actually use the term “entertainment”. It really provides some illumination about someone’s background and a bit of a starting point for many people. Estimates don’t come out of thin air but compared to the DNA of sample populations.

      That's because My Heritage is designed for you to use their genetic groups together with their ethnicity estimates.

    • @BimRen246
      @BimRen246 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My Heritage has fewer regions in its ethnicity estimates. I have been with them for a few years now and hoped they would expand their panel but it seems like this isn't a top priority. With that said the site is actually good for DNA matches, finding genealogy records, and building your family tree.

    • @doubleutee8867
      @doubleutee8867 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BimRen246 I strongly believe My Heritage is designed to use the genetic groups to cover the southern African regions, because there's a genetic group for nearly every southern Africa nation. If you can name an African nation you're referring to, I'll show you what genetic group it belongs to in exchange. That doesn't mean it'll take you down to the tribal level, but with the possible exception of African Ancestry, FTDNA, and Living DNA, neither do most of the other top DNA companies do a tribal breakdown. In videos where My Heritage is compared per percentage vis-a-vis with Ancestry DNA & 23andMe, the Black percentages are not to far off from one another. If anything, My Heritage is poor at explaining what I just explained, or either doesn't care to do so.

    • @BimRen246
      @BimRen246 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@doubleutee8867 My Heritage has put more work into developing its Jewish Panels than they have into expanding its other ethnic regions. This is a priority for them and is excellent, especially for people with Jewish ancestry from Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
      Till they get around to further expanding there are only ten ethnic groups listed for Africa at present. Two of the groups are Jewish focused so they are really only eight groupings. I can't express how inadequate that is in covering the diversity of the African region.
      Africa
      Central African
      Ethiopian Jewish
      Kenyan
      Maasai
      Nigerian
      North African
      Sephardic Jewish - North African
      Sierra Leonean
      Somali
      West African
