Excellent presentation and done in a style that keeps the readers interest. I have lived in St Thomas for the past 55 years and this is such a wonderful presentation that is digestable and interesting! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing! I’ve always wanted to know where my ancestry comes from
your not accurate, with who the Ta ino people were as suggesting the so called black people were not them, they were not str8 haired south american looking people, at least the captain logs of the various ships trading in the area says different-- they only saw negroid people, why they were taken as slaves and were the 1st to be called negro
I am a Black American with roots in the Danish West Indies.
You mean the United States Virgin Islands 🇻🇮
Who is your president right now?
Also speak about the negros there burn down plantains and took control of the island in st john
No mention when Columbus "discovered" the Virgin Islands, that he landed(the first documented landing)-on St. Croix in 1493 or the slave revolts and the negotiations of the sale that also involved the people of VI like David Hamilton Jackson.
I really enjoyed the content..i don't recall being thought this in school back home..we were focused on US hostory and the colonies..It's not till I came to America and met up with Jamaicans, Kitticians and other Island that I got the forward..it's a shame
Thanks. I waz born in STX but my family The Fahie/Foy and Flemming i would like to get more info on the roots of them az well..

Super helpful! Thanks
Of course the US used the island for bombing. Deja vu.
Thank you for a great history lesson about the Virgin Islands! I love St. John’s USVI!!! We Love the Caribbean islands!
This was very informative. Although I’m not of Caribbean decent, I’ve been told I have an African ancestor but I’m white as snow. It helped with you giving information about a few of the companies and especially why 23&me really isn’t a wise choice.
man feel so bad for the indeginous virginians
St. Eustachius 👀👀👀👀👀
Dude I like your content, and intent there-with, though you shouldn't sugar coat the the truths of the past - Germany didn't part with their investments in the Caribbean they withdrew their participation in the plundering and rape of the Caribbean, it's native people, and the African people who were brought there against their will - The Germans had FOMO, attempted to go into business with the invaders, and didn't care (after the fact) what had actually happened there (I.e., you knocked an old woman down to get those goods? Who cares! How much you want for 'em? Unbelievable) - People pre-modern era were a bit savage - let's not hide it.
Don't sugar coat it - The Islands were taken from the indigenous people of the region by hoards of criminals from the Spanish, British, and Danish Prisons, and Military Regimens (all courtesy of the governments/monarchs of those respective nations), all in the name of their countries, the arcane structures of feudalism, and greed & power.
West Indian don’t trust anyone enough for dna testing
I really enjoyed the video. I have been researching the Hetherington name for many years and I am aware of President Hetherington. Have you done any videos that mention him?
It would be cool if folks in both sets of the VIs had dual citizenship so you could just casually island-hop 🫠
Good job. Well done. I love seeing Black people who are into family history and genealogy.
At 10:30, as a genealogy researcher I would have thought you’d have known better than to say something like this. James II (the Duke of York), who founded the Royal African Company and his brother Charles II, who gave it a royal charter, are not ancestors of the current royal family. Charles II had no legitimate children, and James II was deposed in 1688, with his remaining British line going extinct in 1714, and his Jacobite line being dispossessed of the throne and currently living in Germany.
Thank you for sharing this information! ❤
Gonna cry
Dexter, I am intrigued by your videos and my family hail from tortola and I am sure you are familiar with the Lettsome, Frett, Skeleton, Potter, Penn and more. I would love to connect with you and learn more
Gracias por la información amigo, bendiciones, paz y bienestar para nuestras islas💐😎😘👍🏼
so looking it up there were two referendums for Danish West Indies to be part of the US one in 1868 which had a 98.26% vote for yes and in 1916 with a 99.83% vote or yes Denmark must been really sucky for the vast majority to want not be part of Denmark anymore
This is fantastic. I am going to be working for the Park Service in Christiansted and so I've been trying to learn as much as I can about the USVI. Thank you for such an indepth video.
Very smart soldier!
TO THIS AFRO’CARIBBEAN HISTORY BLOGGER [“ISLAND ANCESTORS”] WHAT “A VIRGIN ISLANDS’ MEMORIAL PRESERVATION” AND Y’ALL, “LATEST HISTORIANS, ‘WELCOME’ TO THIS ISLAND REGION!!”📲🏝️
The "moral" reason for continuing modern colonialism? 🤷
The arrogance in trading islands, thousands of miles away, that you've never seen with your own eyes!! How do you land somewhere, and assume ownership? Smh....Wow....
Well you know I ah real Tolian , because I am watching this and wondering who you Fa , and how me and you could be possibly related. You look like the Fahie them in the green land area by the community center. I am a Penn from Paramtown
Great video 🎉
Hi i am trying to trace my ancestry but finding it really hard when it gets to the slavery era. I only have one name of one ancestor who was a freed slave in Jamaica. Nothing else. Do I just accept that i've hit a brick wall and stop? Or do you have any tips on getting more info on slave ancestors? Is paid membership on Ancestry able to go deeper when it comes to the slave trade in the Caribbean?
