    People don’t talk about this very often, great tips! If you look at heavy dubstep tracks for example and wonder why they are so loud on Spotify when normalized - it’s because the drops are wayyy louder than the rest of the track. If you mix the rest of the track quieter the drops can be way louder since Spotify normalizes based on the whole song on average

    @Multipier
    Is that perceived loudness normalization still applied to the track after someone purchases said track?
    If not then wouldn't you still have to make sure your track it at a fairly loud volume for the consumer?

    • @heavymetalmixer91
      @heavymetalmixer91 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's not a process applied directly to the track, it's done only to the playblack in the platform.
      For example, let's say you upload a loud song to TH-cam and then it get turned down: if you download it from TH-cam it won't be quieter (and not limited in the case of Spotify), it will be exactly the same as the one you uploaded before.

    ehy i had the same questions as you. So by that you mean that we have to have a healthy crest factor (difference from soft passages to the loud passes)? know any numbers here? or apprximate ones?

    Multiplier tricking the masses into creating dynamic, more exciting tracks... Not sure I like the language of "tricking" the tools that are saving us from the continuation of the loudness war, brother, but I see what you did there. ;-)

      People from this industry tend to not like being told to make song quieter, so this title (and intro) are a "catch" or bait.

  • @marvomusic

    And how can you make a track that's limited to 0db sound louder without sounding distorted?

    • @ZenWorld
      @ZenWorld 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Marvo perceived loudness come on we've gone over this so many times. Higher frequency sounds have higher perceived loudness than low end. So you get rid of some low end in exchange for that louder higher freq. you see this done a lot in prog house and g house. I only commented because you comment on my channel a lot babe.

    youtube doesn't turn tracks up. For example if you right click on this video and look at stats for nerds. your video is 100% / 100% but is -4.5db lower than their LUFS limit.

  • @DjSubstar
    @DjSubstar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Goddammit i thought the war was over!

  • @antiphones
    @antiphones 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You state that having lower LUFS will cause streaming services to turn the track up. This is incorrect. Services do not turn tracks up for if they have lower LUFS (Higher dynamic range). They only turn tracks down if the LUFS is too high (not enough dynamic range). In short, tracks with a wide dynamic range will be played at the platform's optimum loudness, tracks with less dynamic range will be turned down. But it is incorrect to think you can fool these systems into playing your track louder than their default optimum loudness, you can't.

    • @LucasAlvesMusic
      @LucasAlvesMusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You just described what he said on the video. More dynamic range, least loudness penalty. The more dynamic range (to a limit on louder sections obviously), the least lufs it has on average, and least reduction on volume

  • @peterlagroove6555
    @peterlagroove6555 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Quality mix and mastering is not about how loud you can get a song. The game is all messed up nowadays. Of course you want loudness, but not compressed all to hell where you're loosing the beauty of the music.

    • @groovekingdom6552
      @groovekingdom6552 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The game was all fine before.....there was no problem...some folk who couldn't get a song loud as the other song felt there is a war to win....Stupidly and came up with loudness War idea.....There has never been a loudness War.... Yet many songs had always varying loudness....And it was okay....Nobody said Human Nature of Michael Jackson was inferior because it wasn't as Loud as Smack My Bitch Up.......
      This is why the music industry and music now is all so bad....
      Everything is A.I. Some machine to do everything for you.....loops, beats, samples and chopping this with a tool in a DAW......
      So they feel they should put to use some thing to Automate Volume of songs too.....Which is not necessary....
      Keep the full Volume as created and have songs that are way lower to reach that Volume or close...Just like DJ's do......Why has it become this big problem now...
      But a Song that was cleverly created to sound larger than life....which took so much creativity to achieve...Why the should you take that away from the creator......
      Its just a bunch of fools who are trying to get to a loudness they cant match and end up ruining their own songs.....
      And calls a war because they cant have their tracks as loud....But fools forget not every track are designed or going to be naturally loud and still clean.....The Moon doesn't fight with Sun, The waters do not compete with Wind......Only fools who don't understand Music deeply care about what doesn't matter and they try to do as others...
      Do you think if your song is played on radio and it quiet they gone leave it so? What am against is Turning Down Volume and I will still be saying it..... These things were not so before.... Keep all volume as the best for the listeners and first be as the creators had them......People at home have hand to adjust as they want.
      They dont even think the emotion side of Music...They think it more mental intellectually...
      Hence they are f'd up....
      I will create My Platform......Taking caring these problems to satisfy first The creator...
      Why the heck people want bass headphones or speakers system that reproduce sound with great quality...
      Yet the stupid platform not thinking about the pleasure of Music the people need...
      They thining like Scientist like human came from Monkeys and Big Bang and shit that just lies with white the Elite laugh at the masses.....While they what they are doing....
      There is no such things as loudness War....do want your song louder than unnecessary...And leave the soug that achieved their loudness as it....PERIOD......
      The should not try to compete or be at War with Water....
      Shameful heart musicall-ess generation....

    As much as I think this is a good channel, I don't think it's good to feed on the loudness war. We should move on. I read recently that it seems Spotify will push your music if it's not so loud so it seems like good news, we can maybe stop doing this mastering nonsense in which we kill the sound because of pushing it so much.

    • @Jules_Marston
      @Jules_Marston 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't think you really understood this video..

    • @endermusica
      @endermusica 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did understand the video. I just think looking for ways to sound louder than the rest of the artists, no matter how, it's not doing anything good for the music. I've worked mixing very rich electronic music with multiple synths, complex beats, layers of details, deep basses, and it's really sad when you go to the mastering stage and you just have to make compromises and lose the original vision of the piece because of the limitations this loudness war has brought.

    • @Jules_Marston
      @Jules_Marston 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Loudnest war is bad because of the over compression / cliping / limiting. You talk about compromises to push the volume up ! This guy is telling you that TH-cam ( and the others ) make this shit obsolete, and that you will sound better ( and louder ) by uploading a dynamic mix, wich is what you seem to love ! So where's the problem ? :)

    • @endermusica
      @endermusica 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I talk about compromises to push the volume up so my work can be at the same level of the rest of the music, which is a consequence of the loudness war. If this loudness war wouldn't exist, I wouldn't have to do that.
      And the problem is using time on talk about how to get louder. I think we should get past this already.

    • @Epic501
      @Epic501 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no "getting past this", this is how music is listened to.
      If everybody did what you said then every song anybody ever listened to would vary wildly in dynamics and in average level, that will simply never happen.
      If you wish to have absolutely no insight into how the platforms your tunes will be heard on effect the way they are heard, then you're completely free to master your tracks in your "uncompromised" way, whatever that means.
      That doesn't mean you get to shit on others for wanting to provide the best listening experience.
      "I read recently that it seems Spotify will push your music if it's not so loud so it seems like good news"
      You really didn't at all watch the video did you? The entire point of the video is to exploit that fact to have dynamic mixes that are still loud.
