So for the most part, it was because of creative differences for Philip's character that made Yoshi decide to leave the show. That's sad. He made such a good Philip. :(
Philip was my fav character when Yoshi portrayed him. I think Yoshi should not have quit. Dallas is correct in Philip questioning himself and his position as he followed a far more radical leader first in John. It would make sense for him to wonder what exactly Jesus is up to as the most experienced apostle. He would have made the last seasons even more special had he stayed. sad.
Dude Yoshi quit because he was no longer going to have a large screen presence, he didn’t want to be delegated to being a supporting character. What princess, he should have seen the show through to the end we don’t see any of the other actors quitting because the camera isn’t on them 24/7. Yes Philip was going to have to calm down as this is a show about Jesus and Philip by necessity had to become more humble especially after the death of John.
Obviously they didn’t share a contract, or Dallas didn’t think it would matter to much if he left. I just finished season 4 and forgot about him. I liked Yoshi also, but the gospel story is what matters most. 🙏🏻
It's difficult to say what vision Dallas may or may not have for the character development of Phillip given the lack of dialogue for him in season 4. He was such a pleasure to watch as he played peace maker and mentor among the disciples and I miss that. It seems to me that there have been missed opportunities for scenes with Phillip and Thomas after the tragedy of Ramah.
When Phillip is helping Matthew; Yoshi had a way about him that made it seem believably real. To the point, even not in scripture, I could truly see this happening.
I miss him very much as Philip, however, Dallas had every right to change the trajectory of the character. Philip could still be the cool, hippie type disciple, but still be more pious, also known as being humble. At any rate, he did an awesome job at portraying Philip.
I doubt they willingly decided to change the personality of one of the most loved characters. Pretty sure they changed the character of Phillip after he left based on the more subdued actor they had to quickly hire (why Phillip is missing from most of S3). More than likely, the filming schedule of his movie conflicted and an agreement couldn’t be reached. (and possibly some conflict around that).
I don’t buy it. There’s an untold story there, and if it’s personal for either Yoshi or Dallas, that’s okay. But in my opinion there is something missing that must have caused him to quit (or be forced to quit).
Yoshi should have stayed on the show to the very end. He had nothing to loose and everything to gain. He was fantastic in the show and is missed. His departure only works against him. Sorry.
It really bothers me how someone’s making a call on a religious character when they don’t know who this religious character really was in real life and then they argue about it they didn’t know this person they don’t have the right to portray some thing that they didn’t know in a way that can completely change a persons life For both good or bad. actors are there to do a job a job? They are not the character, especially if the character was a real person there just doing a job.
I liked Yoshi as the Philip character…both producer and artist sometimes don’t agree in all aspects of a movie. Sometimes, God puts us in a place for just a moment..then we need to move on…Dallas knows this first hand….i would ask Our Yoshi to be careful listening to Justin Bieber….Our Sweet forever Yoshi should ask God for guidance….NOT MAN
You all understand that Philip would have suffered at least some depression from the loss of his close friend and mentor John the Baptist who sent him to Jesus. I know I’ve lost many close family and friends and I can tell you that I suffered greatly after losing each one.
I love Yoshi as Phillip. The show is not the same or as “warm” without him. I’m not sure what Dallas was thinking letting him leave. I wish Yoshi nothing but the best in life.
Season 4 was my least favorite of all seasons. I really miss Philip, he was the peacemaker with personality. The new Philip is barely seen or heard and it just felt off.
I think he was to full of himself and I have trouble believing Dallas changed his mind about the character of Philip. Yoshi said in some BTS that they did not always agree on what Dallas wanted in a scene. I for one & I doubt if the only one don’t miss him at all.
I am genuinely sad to see Yoshi leave The Chosen. Yoshi‘s portrayal just felt right at home in the show and was the one character I could connect to. The “experienced” disciple of a holy man fining himself out of his depth with Jesus. I’m sure the actor who has assumed the role is a good one, but he’s no Yoshi.
We all have the choice to do what’s right for our families and The Chosen introduced him to many, but God made us. If this show taught us anything, isn’t it to wish everyone well? God bless you and God bless him.
Most of what you see on The Chosen is not in the Bible. They go with what might be plausible, to create a back story of the actual Bible story. We don't know what God might have been working in Nicodemus' heart in that moment for Jesus to point it out.
Dallas wanted Phillip to be Pious? As in hypocritical? I looked T the official definition and it says “making a hypocritical display of virtue.” If that’s what Dallas wanted for Phillip, then I don’t blame Yoshi for leaving.
You have shown ONE of the definitions of pious, but not the primary one. Under Merriam-Webster, the first listed definition is: marked by or showing reverence for deity and devotion to divine worship. I highly doubt if Dallas wanted Philip to portray hypocrisy.
It seems im the onlu one who never liked him as Phillip 😅 i didn hated him just idk he looked egocentric kn his acting that made feel the "chill character" false????? Idk
I thought maybe he arrived at the conviction that the show is a 2nd commandment violation and that the show took too much artistic liberty with the scriptures and the words of Christ. Of course it's due to a schedule and "vision" conflict. The living word is sufficient.
@@disguisedcentennial835 Those were prescribed by God thru his written word. You can know God's will for images and worship thru the scriptures. This is known as the regulative principle. So for the most part, it was because of creative differences for Philip's character that made Yoshi decide to leave the show. That's sad. He made such a good Philip. :(
He also got the lead in a movie that may have been a filming schedule conflict.
But we gained big James (replacement) and he’s been amazing!

The true gospel is what matters the most. This also includes Paul

Dallas doesn't have the right to change the direction of a show based on the Bible.
He was a great Philip. However, Dallas is the director and creator of the show. What he says goes. Period.
Yes, I do miss Yoshi as Philip. Dallas never should've changed his character!!
I think the actor chose to leave for a film project and they were forced to quickly find a replacement that has a more subdued personality
I miss Yoshi as Phillip.

He doesn't know first hand. Otherwise he would keep scripture accurate and not creating new verses just for the show
You all understand that Philip would have suffered at least some depression from the loss of his close friend and mentor John the Baptist who sent him to Jesus. I know I’ve lost many close family and friends and I can tell you that I suffered greatly after losing each one.
I think in the long run he will regret not continuing on. It’s like when McLean Stephenson left MASH.
I miss him however, Dallas calls the shots.
I don’t believe that’s the real reason. His pride was the downfall of his departure!
Sad to be not humble and leave

New Philip did not have many lines this season.

Yoshi was never a household name as this video states. Without the show, he’ll be ‘that guy that used to play Philip’.

The Chosen is about JESUS. All others are important no doubt but it’s about Jesus.
I definitely miss him, but I am trying to see past the actors and more to the scripture.
When Jesus told Nicodemus to “listen to his heart” I clicked off. Totally not in the Bible and especially not in that scene in the Bible.
